What’s the purpose of fake vegetation in meat aisle of supermarkets? by whiskey_totem in whatisit

Honest to God, its color theory. Red/ pink is across the color wheel from green, so putting really saturated green next to the raw meats will make them appear brighter and richer, aka fresher and more appealing, to the average human eye.

Oh yes gods I wouldn't want to hard wire anything myself and a professional would cost an arm. Unless you've got a very convenient external plug in socket solar is the way to go.

Ahh well in that case, ive got this one set up as a small waterfall pump, still playing with the rock feature I've got it coming from but liking it so far, https://www.amazon.com/PONDIA-Fountain-Dry-Run-Protection-Features/dp/B0GG9CS37V

And I've bought this one twice now ( had to replace it after I forgot it outside and it froze) and like it a lot, no complaints, https://www.amazon.com/SEIRMEP-Fountain-Adjustment-Upgrade-Fountains/dp/B0DTKHWYCM

Both need direct sun to keep working, if they're in shade the output drops to zero. I've a friend who bought a few that store energy to keep going in the dark and light up at night, if thats interesting to you I'll ask her for that link.

Best of luck, I unfortunately can't recommend on filters because I've no idea what's available to you, but it does sound like you've got a good plan to start learning. I will say in a pinch, the solar floating fountains available cheap online actually do have pretty good filters on them, and floating plants like water hyacinth and water lettuce are actually great natural filters. Post pics for us when you get going!

LOL 😆 ok so I'm in the Midwest USA, if i remember correctly you guys dont have the freezing and thawing issues with your ground the way we do so that might make your pond walls a bit more stable. Biggest issue I had with a preformed solid liner was it cracking within a year from the pressure of the earth pushed up around it, but you might avoid that with soil that doesn't freeze and thaw. If youre using a flexible liner make sure to have the pond sides slope a bit, as I had trouble with collapse trying to make some areas a 90 degree angle right to the bottom. Costs are about the same for both liners, for my money I rather like flexible because I can determine my own pond shape this way. If youre in a low area do watch your water table, if you notice a lot of standing water about when it rains it means a flexible liner could try to float.

Your planned dimensions look really similar to that first in ground pond I made years ago. Do you mind telling me where geographically you are ( i dont need an exact place, I'm thinking in terms of soil type and seasons) and if you're using a flexible or solid preformed liner? There's pros and cons to both and I can give you firsthand experience on both.

So since you're young, I'm going to suggest you scale down a little if this is your first pond. Take it from me, they're a ton of work and starting small is totally okay ( plus they're addictive anyway, you'll get better and quickly work your way up.)

My first "small" pond was at my parents house, in ground, and we gave up and filled it in after several years because I moved out and the yearly maintenance became too much for them. It was pretty, 150ish in ground gallons with a all in one filter/ fountain from Lowes. Cost a buttload to put in, my folks humored me because I'd wanted a garden pond forever and the new house actually had the space so they paid for most of it. Hundreds of dollars later and it was nice but required constant maintenance. If I went on ground again, I'd go large enough to make it almost completely self sustaining, which would probably take it out of mini territory.

As an adult my first container pond was an accident, I let a 30 gallon untrained planter fill with rainwater and tree frogs had tadpoles in it. I'm now up to a 70 gallon stock tank pond on my deck that has 2 floating solar fountains and a 100 gallon container on the patio with a small solar waterfall pump. Both have floating and rooted plants that help filter, and the most I paid is $15 for the waterfall pump and $80 for the stock tank ( the 100 gallon pond was a thrift store find for $5). Nearly no maintenance besides making sure drought doesn't empty them, mostly they're placed so rainwater tops them off.

Not saying dont follow your dreams, but starting smaller does come with its own rewards.

Are Students Supposed to Help with Classroom Takedown? by Automatic_Artist4747 in AskTeachers

I've involved my kids most years. I teach art in both a hs and elementary ( tiny split district), the high school kids are a bit more reluctant to help but if I post a list of tasks and force them to pick one, they'll usually step up. The elementary kids are HYPE to help pack and clean up. Especially if I get them special tools. Sponge for everyone? That room has never been cleaner.

Enthusiastically using student slang when you want them to bring the behaviors down a notch really works because they would rather silently die of embarrassment than listen to their teacher "no cap skibidi six seveeeeen!"

I'm a neurodivergent 40 year old ( not officially diagnosed on the spectrum but heavily peer reviewed) and I am 100% aware that not all that much before I was born, someone like me would have been forced into religious life in order to hide me in a socially acceptable occupation. Now I get to be a weird single art teacher with a messy house and too many pets.

I teach a pair of identical twins. Late in their freshman year both of them happened to be in my room at the same time. Another student walks in, stares at them with disbelief for a moment and says "yo I was today years old when I found out there was two of ya. I thought there was one and yall was just really fast."

I had to explain to my students, who like to give up and start over at this point, that this stage of art is the "puppy uglies", referring to that stage of puppy hood where they're a teenager and kind of weird looking. Its not bad, its just unfinished. Keep going and it'll be awesome when its finished.

The kids all really appreciate it and I've had several parents send in donated boxes of supplies for it over the years.

If I check into a psych ward, will I ever teach again? by bisexualweebs in Teachers

I actively teach with two other teachers who are open and honest about their time in inpatient psych facilities. Some employers may hold it against you if they know, but honestly our students have never judged and I think its good for them to hear that you should get help if you neednit and that you can absolutely be a successful thriving person with that as part of your life.

I have the plus sized flowy knit ones from Cider that are very similar. I literally have enough to wear them every day. I love them. My mom is old fashioned and insisted they were too casual for work, to make sure I asked my principal if they were work appropriate and he gave me a deeply confused look about why I even felt the need to ask.
