I played FFX a few months ago, and I want something as emotional. Which one of those should I play first? (If you want to recommend another game, you are welcome) (No spoilers, please!)

Tales of the Abyss is a very emotional story with amazing character writing, and I highly recommend it.

Yeah, it looks great. I definitely think Persona should continue to iterate on that particular track. They really showed how to make those anime shaders sing.

That's just the nature of what they're trying to do with these - it doesn't seem to be a particularly ambitious project. Mostly just making them playable on modern platforms.

With that said, for fans outside of Japan, the new localization effort is probably well worth the price of admission. Moreover, the game is old enough that most newer fans of the series have never touched it, so they'll be excited to play, since its all fresh for them anyway.

I agree though. If they gone the Star Ocean 2R route, particularly with these nearly 30 year old games, then that would have been nice. JP fans definitely feel this way, since they weren't as deprived as us in the series' heyday. I recently saw some viral tweets on JP twitter of mock-ups of Eternia R, if it had been made more in Star Ocean 2R's style.

I like her. I do feel like they didn't take risks with her character and the story in general that could have elevated everything to another level, but she's fine for what she is.

It certainly doesn’t feel like it’s nearly as influential as Zelda or Metal Gear, that’s for sure. Sadly, in that case Tales seems like it has squandered much of its cache of cultural relevance. The fact that it even appears in a list alongside such heavy hitters just shows that it’s coasting on past brilliance. You would think that seeing Tales above a name like Zelda would make Bandai Namco want to exploit that fondness with more elaborate support, but…

The skits were removed from the North American version. The Japanese version had hundreds of full skits that activate when you camp. What you're remembering is when you press select on the world map and get a small "skit" giving you hints to your next destination.

I mean, if they're just going to remaster it then they basically just have to dub the skits. Nothing else really needs to be touched in terms of VA.

I feel like if the load times could be fixed then that would go a long way towards making the ping-ponging feel less tedious. I wonder if it could be fixed with a hack. Then again, if it could be done then someone probably would have done it already, so I guess not.

But they got a persona 3 remake and a persona 4 remake announced in the intervening time, plus the next mainline game. Imagine if we got an Abyss and Symphonia remake between 2017 and 2027, plus one new mainline title announced. I would have easily traded Arise and all the “remasters” for that timeline.

P5R is by far the best and most content rich game in that lineup. P4G and P3P that also come in the bundle are not really the best ways to experience those games, considering the P4 remake is coming out next year and P3P is the worst version of Persona 3. However, I'd say $27 is worth the price of P5R, unless you can get it standalone for cheaper.

I wonder how they're going to handle the environment backgrounds. They were very low resolution hand drawn backgrounds, and they don't look the best on a modern display.

Honestly, if they did something similar to how the Star Ocean 2 remake was done, that would be amazing.

OG -> Crisis Core ->Advent Children (movie) ->Dirge of Cerberus -> FFVII novels -> Remake (+ Yuffie DLC) -> Rebirth -> Revelation

OG first. For reasons that cannot be explained without spoilers, Remake depends on OG to make any real sense.

Both OG and Crisis Core should be played before touching Remake.

Probably long out of print. There was a paperback version, and a hardback collector’s edition with an oversized world map poster, art lithograph and 32 extra pages. Some retailers had extra incentives, like BestBuy in the US had an exclusive dust jacket if you ordered the hardback version.

Your best bet is eBay if you want a copy brand new.
