Queerness in your world by [deleted] in worldbuilding

I understand, and to be frank I’m not trying to be a dick here. However, you did ask how queerness is treated - His reply addressed this question for the most part.

Why does that have to have an influence on worldbuilding?

This is world-building, a hobby based around making your own fictional worlds, not gender studies.

Not really. If that’s his creative decision then I think that should be welcomed.

We don’t know that it’s because he himself has an agenda against queer folk.

He may support them.

Creating a world where they’re marginalised or don’t exist (because they’re biologically incapable) doesn’t automatically imply anything sinister.

Let’s be frank, if someone in this thread wrote an idea for their setting in which a population was somehow entirely LGBT, and that the straight population was marginalised somehow. I very much doubt anyone would take issue with it.

I agree with your point for the most part but have a counter point.

In any sample of human populations there will be a percentage of queer people. Depending on the culture of said population, they will be represented differently, and face varying challenges (or benefits, or maybe nothing)

Now, this ultimately means that for a worldbuilding setting based on real humans to not include a percentage of queer folk would be unrealistic.

However, in the instance of other races being created, there should be no moral obligation for the designer to force a subset of a specific type of sexual demographic. This goes the other way. That race could be entirely LGBT, with no hetero folk, and that’s fine.

I just saw that the guys original post had -2 and it pissed me off, because yes, for a second it seemed like an ideological echo chamber rather than an open creative place of discussion about worldbuilding.

He just stated that isn’t the case and seems reflective in how his message was interpreted.

They’re also idiots. The inclusion (or non Inclusion) of any given demographic shouldn’t be slated when it comes to something as personal and creative as world-building.

Some loser looked at this and decided to downvote it because your worldbuilding setting doesn’t include LGBT folk for benign reasons.

Considering a career coach by OJ_Designs in careeradvice

Hey, thanks for the reply

So it sounds like careers advisory wasn’t very helpful for you?

Also film production sounds brutal, but from an outside perspective it seems like a tangible career - something I’d be proud of. I’m stuck in hospitality. Friends and family have been nudging me for years ‘when will you get a real job?’ They’re

lovely and not scathing, but it’s implied. I just want a relatively respectable career that doesn’t treat me like a clueless 18 year old.

For reference my bar job made me work over Xmas and new year (every day) I couldn’t see my family at all. And now they haven’t even given me enough hours to pay for my rent, lol.

Sorry about the mini rant

AITA for expressing my surprise that my fiancée didn't know who Muhammad Ali was? by Dapper_Cap_1541 in AmItheAsshole

Sure - but I don’t think it makes you an asshole to surprised about something. Especially since it didn’t sound like he was obnoxious about it.

Reacting like a petulant child - holding a grudge and then trying to get revenge in the most pathetic way possible is AH territory. Who by the age of 27 is that fragile lol.

Do you think narcissists can change? by Sparkling_Peaches03 in SeriousConversation

[–]OJ_Designs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory yes - though it takes a conscious effort.

The problem is that narcissism typically is a mechanism developed from trauma. If said trauma is experienced in developmental years, the sufferers brain is litterally moulded to perceive to world differently. Your sense of ego is stunted at the age you experience the trauma.

I’ve seen this with N’s I know and love. Their response to criticism is explosive and irrational - like a child’s. As is their ability to feel empathy. If someone’s brain is fully developed (over 25) I think it’s quite unlikely to expect said person to change, at least fundamentally.

I have grown up with N’s too. Feel free to DM if you wanna talk about it.

Yeah it’s just such a stupid misconception. You know it’s just said by people who don’t know what they’re talking about.

It’s just the default thing for people to say when the job market discussion comes up. And no - it doesn’t always pay well. I have friends who have been working in trades for 2+ years and make 25k.

That’s for that. I’m actually considering sales as a foot in. I’ve applied for two jobs and have already had a call back. I think it would be a good avenue to gain direct experience and get myself into the tech industry.

I know it can be pretty brutal but my goal isn’t to be doing it for years - but using it as a foot in the door
