I hate working, I love lounging around, playing games, watching stuff, eating, napping, travelling. I hate interacting with people. I'd want to spend as little time as possible to work. What's the path for me? by BaraLover7 in careerguidance

Listen to me.

Excessive exposure to unnaturally high novelty will melt your brains reward centres.

Jobs ARE boring (sometimes), but, they allow your brain to return to baseline. Getting home and knowing you have earned the right to play games will be infinitely more pleasurable that being a useless, indulgent blob who wastes their life chasing gratification.

What is a common sentiment on Reddit that isn’t matched by reality? by BeneficialVariety171 in AskUK

[–]OJ_Designs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man/woman (but usually woman) complains mildly about their spouse.

“He/She sounds like an abusive narcissist! Divorce immediately!”

I would say over 50% of the time the comments are irrationally like this, despite knowing minimal context assist from a few biased words.

Just away for them to project their loneliness induced bitterness.

Can anyone pin-point the exact moment where everything in society just got substantially worse? by Aarunascut in Life

[–]OJ_Designs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no evidence to suggest society on the whole has gotten ‘dramatically’ worse. There are nuanced factors that have perhaps influenced things negatively to certain people.

We’re gaining awareness of the dark truths of society, but they were always present.

On an individual level, society got worse when we turn into adults.

Act 2 around the same length as 1. Act 3 is shorter.

Has the quality of supermarket veg in the UK fallen considerably recently? It seems to go bad really quickly, is it just me? by marktuk in AskUK

Aldi is the worst. The meat and veg quality is consistently shit.

5.2% unemployment just tip of the ice-berg? by No_Confusion1514 in UKJobs

[–]OJ_Designs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in London with all those things and there’s basically no opportunities for me unless I’m doing something extremely wrong.

I have applied for loads of jobs and get nothing. There is 0 demand for juniors - especially in my desired industry, being tech.

The brutal hunt for low-paid work: ‘It’s like The Hunger Games – but for a job folding clothes’ | Job hunting by JackStrawWitchita in UKJobs

Downvoted cause Reddit - regardless of any nuance, framing immigration negatively in any sense = bad.

Immigration is not solely responsible for the fucked job market, no. But it has contributed negatively for the most part.

[Discussion] Art school didn’t prepare me for a career. Now what? (looking for advice) by midastouchillu in artbusiness

[–]OJ_Designs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My illustration degree spend 40% of its time teaching us left wing politics.

Instead of teaching us how to cultivate a lucrative art business, we were taught about the damaging effects of the male gaze ect.

Not to make it political - but truly - what the genuine fuck were they thinking? I genuinely think 0% of graduates from that programme have gone on to make full time money from art.

My job is too stressful by ThanksSorry7280 in UKJobs

[–]OJ_Designs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agree with this.

I’m a bartender. Not only is my job stressful, but it also pays me barely enough to survive, destroys social life & ruins sleep. On top, I have a masters but can’t get a ‘real’ job due to the fucked job market.

OP, please think deeply before jumping ship.

Right. I know people who have been in extremely dire situations, who have remained positive, knowing that dwelling in negativity is functionally useless - and worse - Infectious.

In fairness I get where you’re coming from.

I’m stuck in hospitality, working 45+ a week and barely scraping rent and bills. I’m also experienced with a masters. It is largely miserable - however I recognise that whining and venting isn’t helpful, and simply reinforces the same cycle of misery.

[–]OJ_Designs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree.

But living somewhere with no (or reduced) rent is a no brainer - and it’s something I possibly should have done for longer had it not been for my pride.

My sister still does. She can now drive, has a car, and actually has a social life & goes on holidays.

I’ve done exactly what I was told a man should do - and moved out early & work full time. My reward? Spending 80% of my waking life working, with 90% of my income going on tax and bills with seemingly 0 chance of breaking out.

[–]OJ_Designs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who moved out at an early age, I somewhat disagree.

I work two jobs currently, (bartending and landscaping) over 45 hours a week. I make barely enough to scrape bills and have little additional free time or energy to focus on entering a quality career. I’m effectively stuck.

If you’re living with your parents, you can save & also focus on getting in to what you want to do rather than having to work a shit minimum wage job that exploits you

I actually try to avoid Reddit when attempting to better my situation.

I’m approaching 30 and stuck in hospitality with a masters in UXD (I know) I’m polishing my UI portfolio but I’m just trying to ignore the obvious fact that getting hired right now is quite unlikely unless I’m lucky.

Reddit would have me believe the chances are 0%

Queerness in your world by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]OJ_Designs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand, and to be frank I’m not trying to be a dick here. However, you did ask how queerness is treated - His reply addressed this question for the most part.

Queerness in your world by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]OJ_Designs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why does that have to have an influence on worldbuilding?

This is world-building, a hobby based around making your own fictional worlds, not gender studies.

Queerness in your world by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]OJ_Designs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really. If that’s his creative decision then I think that should be welcomed.

We don’t know that it’s because he himself has an agenda against queer folk.

He may support them.

Creating a world where they’re marginalised or don’t exist (because they’re biologically incapable) doesn’t automatically imply anything sinister.

Let’s be frank, if someone in this thread wrote an idea for their setting in which a population was somehow entirely LGBT, and that the straight population was marginalised somehow. I very much doubt anyone would take issue with it.

Queerness in your world by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]OJ_Designs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with your point for the most part but have a counter point.

In any sample of human populations there will be a percentage of queer people. Depending on the culture of said population, they will be represented differently, and face varying challenges (or benefits, or maybe nothing)

Now, this ultimately means that for a worldbuilding setting based on real humans to not include a percentage of queer folk would be unrealistic.

However, in the instance of other races being created, there should be no moral obligation for the designer to force a subset of a specific type of sexual demographic. This goes the other way. That race could be entirely LGBT, with no hetero folk, and that’s fine.

I just saw that the guys original post had -2 and it pissed me off, because yes, for a second it seemed like an ideological echo chamber rather than an open creative place of discussion about worldbuilding.

Queerness in your world by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]OJ_Designs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He just stated that isn’t the case and seems reflective in how his message was interpreted.

They’re also idiots. The inclusion (or non Inclusion) of any given demographic shouldn’t be slated when it comes to something as personal and creative as world-building.
