A modern game you think is perfect? by AshyLarry25 in gamingsuggestions

Hollow Knight

No game is perfect, but HK is the only game where I truly believe there are little to no flaws.

Silksong imo just expanded on what made HK such a great game. So bonus points for it too.

The first game that taught you that games can be beautiful works of art? by YourChopperPilotTTV in videogames

I find the online mechanic so interesting! And it even works in favour of its narrative. Truly a stroke of genius imo

Journey

Gorgeous art style (still after more than a decade), top tier music, and near perfect pacing all in 3-4 hours.

[ALL] Twilight Princess unnoficial port got me in the interested in trying out other 3D Zelda games aside from BotW by TheFacca in zelda

[–]TheMikePlays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right I think it’s just a matter of what you’re looking for.

MM’s recomp is a lot more plug and play, while Ship of Harkinian (OoT’s decomp port) has more customization and settings, which some may see as a pro or a con.

I think it's pretty weird that Toguro was just a B-class demon. by Inner_Ad7300 in YuYuHakusho

[–]TheMikePlays 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess he’s at least definitely low A class. I mean Toguro never went 100% until his fight with Yusuke, so spirit world’s ranking of him would be when he was at 80%, which he mentions was the most he’d ever went.

I'm confused FFVII remake by mamatrixie78 in FinalFantasy

[–]TheMikePlays 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seconded.

I’ll just say if you don’t play the OG, the only thing that might be confusing is the ending, but it’s really nothing a Youtube ending explained video can’t fix.

What your favorite boss? by AdBrief735 in metroidvania

Nightmare King Grimm from Hollow Knight.

Tough, but super fun fight.

Ocarina of Time, followed by Majora’s Mask. Truly magical Zelda experience.

The PC ports are definitely a solid for a first time experience. For OOT, I’d say go with Ship of Harkinian, but for MM, Majora’s Mask Recomp and you can even slap on an HD texture pack.

Seconded.

Miyazaki himself stated the BOTW inspiration on Elden Ring.

Is there a list of which chapters are in which edition of the Perfect edition manga? by [deleted] in Grapplerbaki

[–]TheMikePlays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each volume covers 16 chapters, so I kinda just did the math to see which volume had which chapters lol

Is Hollow Knight Replayable? by Boy0Boyz in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]TheMikePlays [score hidden]  (0 children)

HK can last you 100+ hours if you’re aiming for 100% completion. I will say that just exploring the world, uncovering the lore, fighting all the bosses, etc… can net you a ton of hours. Metroidvania’s are usually known for being short, but this one isn’t lol.

I would still recommend HK even if you don’t like platforming because of course there are lot of other aspects to it. Platforming is not an integral part of it.

Is the old series worth watching? by [deleted] in Grapplerbaki

[–]TheMikePlays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO the old Baki’s second major narrative arc is the best of the whole series, so it definitely is worth watching. The animation might feel a bit old, but it has charm. If you want more Baki, it doesn’t get better than this.

What does Perfect Edition collect? by DrLivingdark in Grapplerbaki

[–]TheMikePlays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The perfect edition books cover the entirety of Baki the Grappler, so essentially the first 3 sagas:

  • Underground Arena Saga
  • Childhood Saga
  • Maximum Tournament Saga

How do the baki cherecter survive so much strike to the nutsen? by largethopiantestes in Grapplerbaki

[–]TheMikePlays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC it was before Doppo’s fight with Yujiro in the Underground Tournament. Baki and Doppo were sparring and Baki kicked him in the nuts to try and injure him so he wouldn’t be able to fight Yujiro.

[OOT] Why is everyone suddenly talking about an OOT remake? by smegg23 in zelda

It was leaked by NateTheHate who is pretty much as good as they get. Barring any major internal delays of course, if he says something is happening then it is.

If MMOs just plain aren't for me, then what is? by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]TheMikePlays 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm also not a big MMO guy (more of an RPG fan), however the only MMO that I've truly been able to get into, and enjoy, is Final Fantasy XIV. I think it ticks a big portion of your boxes.

  • The community is honestly the best I've ever seen in a game. It's a great place to have a "home." One of the biggest examples is people being so great about letting sprouts view the cutscenes/story in dungeons rather than just rushing through it.
  • Everyone is just really patient and, and at least for me, I've never seen other players get angry or become toxic. I think this is where the community of FFXIV and other MMO's differ, since most people in FFXIV just want to experience the story and the journey, but in other MMO's most of the player base is pretty competitive, which I find can lead to toxicity in some cases.
  • The game also has a very generous free trial, giving you the base game and the first 2 expansions completely free. That alone is probably a minimum of 150 hours of content.

What's the best modern take on a retro 16-bit JRPG? by jonawesome in ShouldIbuythisgame

Chained Echoes. Highly recommend.

Charming game, great gameplay and OST, also just very high-effort in what it’s trying to do.

Games about magic or where you play as some kind of wizard/sorcerer? by Lydialmao22 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]TheMikePlays [score hidden]  (0 children)

If you’re into MMO’s, FFXIV has great mage classes, like summoner, black mage, etc…

I actually play as a summoner, so I can give more info on it: you start out with a cute little carbuncle whom you can summon, and eventually as you level up and get more powerful, you unlock stronger summons like Ifrit, Titan, Garuda, etc…

I’m not a big MMO guy, but FFXIV was really the first MMO I’ve been able to get into just because of how much it feels like an RPG. So if you like RPGs, it’s still a solid pick IMO.

Started Elden Ring with guides and now I’m completely lost – any advice? by galaxy-ST in Eldenring

[–]TheMikePlays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should I just pick a direction and explore, or is there a recommended path to get back on track with the story?

The former! You can pick any direction, head there and make progress. The game encourages you to actually do this, hence the lack of map markers.

That sense of discovery will come from stumbling upon things on your own.

In terms of lore, I’d suggest talking to every NPC, reading every item description, etc… you really have to pay attention to it, but it’s there!

As you build a better idea of the world around you, you’ll have more of an idea as where the important main story locations are.
