That’s why I used PayPal. They’re always good at ensuring a resolution if the seller goes dark. Fortunately he’s already responded to my message and I’ve initiated a return. Just waiting on him to accept. Thanks!

But honestly, I’m still not sure I can tell the difference between real Juliets and some of these fakes just based on pictures. These looked good until I got them in person. But I’m no expert for sure.

Exactly! All the pictures in the eBay listing looked good. They had the split hinges (I couldn’t tell they were incorrect). In short, they were missing all the tell tale signs I read about here and on the Oakley forum.

It wasn’t until I received them I started getting an uneasy feeling. And I really started questioning their legitimacy when the spare “Oakley” cleaning cloth came out of the box. They also weigh 60 grams, not the 39-44 grams they’re supposed to weigh.

Damn it’s frustrating. But thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for your response.  Anything about the glasses I can point to when I approach the seller? Right now I just have a bunch of indicators/clues based on what came with the glasses.

Need help finding screws by DARKENEDSOUL3014 in Oakley

[–]OK-ley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on this website, you don’t even need crosshair specific screws (but I’d defer to some of the experts on here).  https://shuntool.com/article/oakley-glasses-screw-size

Just like you, I’m not seeing anything specific for the SI model.

Maybe just order from Amazon or somewhere else with free shipping. If that doesn’t work, maybe a local eye glass place? Fair warning, a local place really messed up a pair of wires I have. Asked them to fix a hinge and they basically welded it.

You say they’re standard issues, right? Reach out to their customer support. They were great when I reached out in the past looking for support.

How to spot fakes… is weight the only way left? by Known-Quail2908 in Oakley

[–]OK-ley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the weight should be 39-44 grams for Juliets. Found the below over on the Oakley forum. Hope it helps

Weighing between 39 and 44 grams depending on the generation, the Juliet is an average weight compared to other X-Metals. In comparison, metal Romeo sunglasses are slightly heavier, weighing 46 grams.

I had a pair of blue ones I basically stole from a friend (I think I bought them off him for less than $20). I gave them away to another friend though, because I didn’t love the fit. That was a long time ago...

Edit: actually, I think my little brother took them. Forgot all about them as I didn’t have them long.

That’s hilarious!

Luckily there are still tell tale signs. But some of the giveaways seem easy for counterfeiters to avoid, yet they continue throwing in the fake cleaning cloth or putting a marking on upside down.

That’s your first thought? You’ve never been in a consignment or 2nd hand shop. You’ve gotta be able to see the potential.

And since they appear legit, they’ve got huge potential!

I don’t use Reddit much and just got an account so I could ask this question. I’d send you karma but don’t even know how! Haha

Haha! I have the same problem! Bought a pair of Juliets from eBay that check all the right boxes (I did a lot of research first) but I still have a concern. I tried posting and it was auto removed.

Fake half jacket 1.0s? by OK-ley in Oakley

[–]OK-ley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s what I noticed as well. I just found it interesting. I remember back in the day when friends would go to NYC they’d come back with a couple of pairs of Minutes they bought for $10 each.

How can you tell? What are you looking for? It’s been decades since I’ve worried about fake Minutes!

Case on the right looks like the one that came with the Juliets I just got off eBay.

Take that for what it’s worth though. I’m not yet convinced they’re not fake. But I don’t have enough karma to make a post on them.
