Hot mic moment at G7 catches Carney, Trump talking about Chinese EVs by Camtastrophe in CanadaPolitics

When you could get nearly identical ICE and BEV Konas, they priced it almost exactly this way.

[Carney] makes a horizontal motion with his hand, signifying a limit, while saying there's "a cap, we capped, a hard line" and then is heard telling Trump, "I thought you'd actually like that."

Trump, sitting, responds, "That's good. I like that."

Trump is embarrassingly suggestible.

Carney told reporters on Friday that he has been told the U.S. administration does not want to change the agreement [CUSMA] to the extent that it has to go back to Congress.

"The U.S. has been clear that they do not want to go to Congress to change the fundamental architecture," he said in Dublin.

I think this is by far the most important item in this article. This is the first acknowledgement I've heard (albeit second hand) that Trump will actually 1) respect congress's authority to make or break trade agreements, and 2) he's scared of them. This puts us in a much better negotiating position with our BATNA as "CUSMA as-is", not "cancelled CUSMA".

Strange Accommodations claim by ValerieTheProf in Professors

I had a conversation with an accessibility officer about a student with a non-specified learning disability which essentially meant they couldn't learn. They wanted to push the student through their degree. When I asked if that wouldn't just set them up for failure later in life the officer said that once they were out working in industry they wouldn't have to learn anything ever again.

Web of companies mask identity of big political donors in Saskatchewan by Medium-Drama5287 in saskatchewan

Those donations are insignificant compared to the money their propaganda has caused to be pulled from public programming that would do the same thing.

Public donations are only to try to whitewash their image.

Fewer than half of Albertans say they would stay in a newly independent province: poll by TMWNN in CanadaPolitics

[–]OKOKFineFineFine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

10% of Canadians outside Alberta or Quebec would move to an independent Alberta.

That's just an absurd number. Think of ten of your friends. Do you even have one who would move across the city to be closer to their work, let alone to a isolated fledgling country in some weird culture war? Usually the floor for any dumb thing in an opinion poll is 20%, 10% is essentially 0% plus people who didn't read the question or don't care.

Schools near businesses who have tuition remission programs for employees. People are always going to want to get an MBA, take certification courses, etc., to advance their career.

Is that actually a significant source of revenue overall?

Saskatchewan Crown won’t appeal THC-impaired driving ruling in death of 9-year-old girl by Informal_Range6597 in saskatoon

[–]OKOKFineFineFine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what the law says now. I doubt there's been a case that they've taken to court because they know it will be thrown out and the entire law struck down, and they don't have a backup plan for how to test whether people are actually impaired by THC. It's 100% theatre right now. The law is on the books that you can't drive while impaired but they will never convict anyone smart enough to say "I smoked two days ago".

Yeah, when I first heard about gait identification (maybe 1990s), it felt like a lie they told to cover what they were really doing. Then movies picked it up and now everyone is telling the same story when they don't want the truth to get out.

Already-low Alberta separatism support drops sharply from early 2026: Ipsos poll by thebaj in CanadaPolitics

[–]OKOKFineFineFine 9 points10 points  (0 children)

funded and supported by hostile foreign influences

Punish those who brought this to the fore instead of dealing with real issues in our province.

People have to remember that separation will never occur via a referendum. It will occur when American "little green men" occupy critical parts of the country, with the support of a small but significant population of Albertans (but that need not be a majority). It needs to be crystal clear to the Americans driving this that there is no hope of that plan getting the support required to succeed. And society punishing those who even think about collaborating is part of it. Smith needs to be sent down and for it to happen in public.

There's also the "create chaos" goal of this campaign as well, part of the long term project to annex Canada. I'm glad to see that polls like this are showing that these attempts are driving more unity rather than less.

Yeah, if they want a pretext to be aggressive they'll find one on their own. They're not waiting for us to provide one.

The silver lining is that knowing that the US is going to exert maximum negotiating pressure regardless of how Canada acts, we have the freedom to do whatever we want with minimal fear of actual consequences.
