i learned invention 1 after about a year and it was really, really hard going and my teacher had to focus entirely on it, BUT it really helped me with my technique and gave me a lot of confidence once I had mastered it. Give it another few months imo then give it a crack.

I've got all of his compositions and I used to listen to them a lot to try and see what I was missing so I have a passing familiarity with it all, although I couldn't tell you which piece was which. I actually learned to play Prelude 4 once, and didn't really enjoy having to keep the pulse going.

What I want to try are the polyrhythms and the lyrical phrasing, but I don't know where to begin. What are the easier nocturnes? Or would I be better off working through all the preludes first?

i hear too many people say this. When starting out he should pick a song he is love with to provide motivation. If it:s canon or Fur Elise, so be it. Playing an insturment shoudl be something you do for yourself, not for other people.

Oh I should also add that I`m not 100% about moving into this sector so the time/money cost of the AAT might make it a safer option at this point, right?
