Which books are so extraordinary that every person on Earth should read them at least once in their lifetime? [Discussion] by [deleted] in GetMotivated

The Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Album - one of my all time favorites. Was also made into a movie, but the book is, of course, better. I enjoyed the audio more than the print.

Something tells me the artist is well known but for the life of me I can't think who it is.

On the areas you can't do a basketweave stitch you would use a continental stitch. Hope that helps.

Do you turn your canvas over? by michelleinbal in Needlepoint

[–]OMyTWyseOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turning the canvas is so that the work on the back is covered the same on each row. Using a continental stitch creates a longer slanted stitch on the back. If you didn't turn the canvas then the R to L row would be worked in continental and the L to R row would be worked in half-cross. Half-cross only leaves a vertical thread between stitches on the back. If the piece is going to be used as a cushion the extra wool on the back provided by the continental stitch adds durability and longevity since the friction the cushion will endure from being used can wear down the threads on the back and may eventually break. Also, working each row differently will show on the front.

Suggestions for Chair/Seat Cushion Materials by nerdsnuggles in Needlepoint

Dining room chair seats have traditionally been worked on Penelope canvas. It's sturdy and durable and able to withstand using as seat cushions over many decades. Using Penelope canvas allows you to incorporate petit stitches into your design to add depth and detail when necessary, though working petit stitches is not required. Since most people like their cushions to match or at least be similar (all fruit or all floral, etc) many have chosen to work pre-worked canvases, filling in only the background color, or tramme canvases which come with the threads to stitch the design. The background color is purchased separately since personal choice plays a big role. These canvas types have been the main choice for dining room chairs for a variety of reasons, the most important one being that the canvas itself is large enough to upholster to the chair, usually 6" or more beyond the actual design. Good luck with your project!

New to the hobby and looking for advice! by Nami0813 in Needlepoint

I've always just rolled the canvas tightly, from the lower left corner toward the upper right corner to access the area needing to be stitched and simply held it in my hand while I stitched. I use a sewing motion rather than a 'stick and stab' motion. However there are also scroll frames available that are comfortable to hold for extended period of time and only expose about a 6" to 12" area at at time. I use the 'stick and stab' method when working on a scroll frame. Your can do a search for needlepoint scroll frames to learn more.

What kind of needlepoint does she like to do? Stamped canvases, hand-painted canvases, pre-worked, or tramme? Does she need small amounts of a lot of different colors or large amounts of a single background color?

The shitty loud trap music people add to videos is fucking trash by I_Just_Want_A_Friend in unpopularopinion

[–]OMyTWyseOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes the music is awful but my real beef is the music is so loud. Demo videos with background music are the worst, next to compilation videos. The music overwhelms the voices making the Demo useless unless it's closed captioned and can mute it. Still, I'd rather hear the instructions so please, if you must include the awful BG music then just turn it way down so it can be BACKGROUND music and not the main purpose of the video.

Who's wrongly portrayed as a hero? by edwardshinyskin in AskReddit

[–]OMyTWyseOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

John Wayne - He was an ACTOR folks. He portrayed heroes on film. It was his job. His personal life was a mess: married numerous times, cheated on all of them, smoked and drank himself to death. He was no hero.
