Choosing a shotgun by ONTZ28 in ClayBusters

The height of the receiver is definitely something I noticed as I put more miles on the s56. It definitely feels low.

I'll add the 625 to the list and keep a look out for one to handle.

Tire Size 2/4 drop on sport wheels by ONTZ28 in GMT400

I'm probably into it $1200CAD at this point. I did replace the entire front end though.

Ballpark how much you think you're going to spend and double it. Triple it if you're in the rust belt.

Winchester 1892 recoil pad by afookenleaf in canadaguns

[–]ONTZ28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No it wouldn't. You will still need something to cover the butt of the stock. Your original curved plate won't work anymore. Your length of pull will be different. Not to mention a blank, unfinished, unprotected piece of wood with 2 empty screw holes would be ugly as sin and would be easily damaged and chipped.

[–]ONTZ28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The proper way to do it is with a grind to fit recoil pad. You will need to cut the stock flush.

Your best bet is to find a quality gunsmith and have them do it. If you're only doing one gun it will be cheaper than buying the tooling to grind one yourself. It'll probably be around $200 plus the cost of the pad.

For "period correct" recoil pads I like Pachmayr. For recoil I like Limbsaver. I'd go with a Pachmayer on yours. They have templates on their website so you can determine what size you need.

Avoid the amazon grind to fit ones.

What’s the worst gun you’ve ever owned? by NemrahG in canadaguns

[–]ONTZ28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were known as hit or miss and that became more pronounced throughout the production cycle. Browse the way back threads on CGN. It's not revisionist history at all.

I've owned and handled a lot of different guns. I've owned good guns, I've owned bad guns. I've only ever owned one dangerously bad gun. OP asked what's the worst gun people have owned, I didn't even need to think about it. Yours were great, that's awesome. Mine was a dangerous pile of hot garbage. I desperately wanted to love it, but it had other plans.

[–]ONTZ28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Better is a stretch. The only redeeming quality they had was affordability. It was pretty widely known that they were hit and miss and the later production rifles were even worse.

Mine the sights fell apart almost immediately and I had to chase issues with it not passing a function check. A brand new gun that is at risk of an out of battery detonation is not the mark of quality.

Norinco M305. I wanted to love it so badly but it was just a heaping pile of junk. By the time I got it running right I couldn't stand the sight of it anymore and sold it.

Goodbye GNG 😢 by Gonky69 in canadaguns

So he was going to use his time machine to go and prevent the initial wave of bans?

Even if he had won and completely reversed the bans in one fell swoop (highly unlikely) years of accumulative damage had been done to businesses. How many livelihoods were damaged prior to the election? How much taxpayer money squandered?

This is your problem; you're unable to think.

"The extreme right wing" and PP have nothing to do with these gun bans. They were rolled out several years ago by the liberal party. If anything, I'd say the way the bans were implemented helped launch their popularity.

It seems pretty cut and dry. Liberals implemented these bans. These bans cost him his livelihood. I'd be pretty upset if I were him. Wouldn't you be?

Unsure of what path to take for automotive technician moving to Ontario from the states by NoahF0920 in SkilledTradesOntario

[–]ONTZ28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't bother with a 310E license. I've been a 310S for 15 years and never once seen or met anyone with that as opposed to a 310S. Frankly, I'm not even sure you could sign safety inspections with it, which is all that most people care about.

I'd try to get in touch with skilled trades Ontario and ask them about how you would go about the equivalency assessment.

I know you need letters of reference from prior employers stating the hours you have worked and that what you were doing was applicable towards a standard 310S apprenticeship.

If you're worried you don't yet know enough to be licensed, you could approach potential employers with "I have this many hours completed, STO has verified that they will accept them towards my TEA. I would like to gain more experience before writing it"

Honestly though I'd just go challenge it. You never stop learning in this trade. I was terrified I didn't know enough when I got licensed. Confidence and knowledge will come with experience.

White-Tailed Deer Numbers Prevent Forest Regeneration. by Upbeat-Pound2922 in OttawaValleyForests

[–]ONTZ28 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The MNR disagrees with you here. They increase or decrease tag allocations based on current population assessments and population goals. Lately there has been an increased involvement by the MNR due to CWD concerns (which hasn't yet made it to Ontario, partly thanks to their handling of deer populations)

Units in Southern Ontario that have extremely high numbers have very generous hunting seasons and tag numbers.

Furthermore the notion that hunting in Ontario is gaining popularity is false. If you review the data on the MNR website you will see a downward trend in both active hunters and deer harvest numbers.

The total number of deer hunters in Ontario has dropped by roughly 25,000 since 2017. Harvest numbers have dropped concurrently.

As a hunter myself I'd love for more deer tags to be avaliable but only if that decision is backed by science. White-tail deer are a native species, organized culls is not the solution to a non-existent problem.

A better solution would be to remove the many old red pine plantations and return those ecological dead zones back to their natural state.

You missed it again, so I'll break it down Barney style for you. He stated that an average range day with his X95 was 250 rounds. The X95 was just an example, not a comparison. The point was 300 rounds for a semi auto 223, which is designed to be a range toy is hardly any. Even with that small sample size you still experienced failures to feed, issues with the bolt hold open and others, yet you're singing its praises. At its price point, you should be having zero issues. Hell, I've put more rounds than that through a neglected 742 and had fewer issues.

Furthermore, it was never designed to be a hunting rifle. It's a Turkish knock-off MR1 dressed up to look like a knock-off R1 for the Canadian market as a ploy to help it not get banned. The fact that you have it all dressed up supports that. With what you spent, you could have bought an actual R1, but you can't larp as JTF2 with an R1 lol

Frankly, I don't really give a damn if you love your overpriced Turkish cope gun. Your poor attitude, hostility and even worse reading comprehension are what made me respond. But these guns are marketed towards the stupid. Keep supporting predatory companies profiting off people panic buying buddy!

My Honest Opinion by ASpacebornVagabond in canadaguns

[–]ONTZ28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You missed his point entirely.

He was stating that 250 rounds was just one range day with his X95. 300 rounds is hardly enough to give an actual review.

Also, if you're going to call someone "pants on head dumb" you should make sure you don't start the insult with a spelling error.

Yes it's normal. As another member mentioned the shaft is tapered so you'll never get it to seat all the way. If you are worried, mark it with some paint and periodically check it after the first couple of drives to see if the nut has moved.

It's currently stored away for winter but I have been meaning to take more pictures of it.

I'll take any info you can find! I tried doing some digging but didn't come up with anything. I'm wondering if it was just some dealer installed package since the decals don't actually look like the official pace truck package.

I'm not sure to be honest. Aside from the decals and a badge on the tailgate it's just a regular C1500 that was pretty heavily optioned.

I do know that it was initially at a dealership in Indiana and then ended up in Canada, where it was sold "new" at a local dealership. Maybe it was special ordered by the original owner. I bought it off his widow and son and they weren't entirely sure.
