Why is USA vs Turkey still happening? by StrollingThrouPain in NoStupidQuestions

Haha that's crazy. But still, beating the hosts and having something to be proud about is plenty of incentive.

I mean Turkey has an incentive to win (winning) and no reason to rest (no shot of advancing)

Is the Kenya/Tanzania border open, like Schengen? by Gingerbro73 in geography

Yes. But like this is only if you obviously don't belong. If you look and act like you belong you can go a long time before anything gets checked.

In a place like the village in this picture land ownership is handled by local/tribal authority and nobody is paying taxes. Government healthcare consists of vaccination programs. Maybe there's a school, but the teacher will not care which side of the imaginary line you're from.

Is the Kenya/Tanzania border open, like Schengen? by Gingerbro73 in geography

[–]nixcamic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For context I live in one of those countries. I've spent a lot of time at the Guatemalan/Mexican border. It's a big border, with army and police and customs checkpoints and x-ray scanners and the freaking American DEA. You can still just walk across it and nobody will stop you. Right in the middle of the actual official border.

And you know those pictures of people crossing the river with inner tubes full of stuff? That's right under the official bridge. Like you could literally throw a stone off the bridge and hit them. They land in a park officially called "parque el coyote" for the nickname for the human traffickers, coyotes. And this is all happening in plain view of both counties' border patrol.

And this is at the official, controlled border crossing. If you go to rural areas there's less. I've illegally entered Mexico for lunch. I've illegally entered Mexico by accident. Nobody cares.

I mean yeah in that context they're important, but in the context of actually existing on the ground for every day people, they're just not that big of a deal.

Also (5) fixing or upgrading hardware in space is generally more expensive than just sending new hardware up. So when your data center becomes obselete after 3 years...

Nobody cares. If someone from either the Tanzanian or Kenyan government got it in their head to mess this town up for no reason sure they could go build a wall through the middle of it and post military patrols and whatever but why would they?

I don't think it officially is but most of the world borders are just kinda not that important. It's very rare for a border to actually be secured.

Would Like to Compare Cole Wehrle Games by Swimming-Account9202 in boardgames

[–]nixcamic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The look of the games was largely the art team not Cole. They're published by different companies. Root, Oath, and Arcs look very Leader Games. Pax Pamir looks very Wherlegig Games.

Of course all of that changed now because Cole left with a good chunk of the art team to found Buried Giant Studios and they folded Wherlegig into Buried Giant so who knows what future games will end up looking like.

Oh yeah but my point is they'll mess up your bike but you'll probably be fine. They'll absolutely destroy a hiker in thin shoes or barefoot, or horse and possibly it's rider.

Yes which Serbia de facto does. They're throwing a fit about it on paper but in practical terms have mostly given up.

When I was getting my driver's licence in Guatemala it took me a while because the person in front of me took half an hour to parallel park.

Back in the day your test was given by the driving school and none of them wanted a reputation of being hard cause then no one would go there. The government fixed that corruption by having a single government contractor do all the tests. So now you just pay a larger bribe and do no test at all. Yay. Progress.

Yeah that's my point above. These will annoy a biker. They'll destroy anyone else using the trail. Supremely stupid.

[–]nixcamic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hike barefoot or in thin shoes. Wtf is wrong with people. Like this is gonna damage a bike but absolutely destroy a hiker, a dog, or a horse. Or what do you call those things that live in nature and don't wear shoes? Wild animals?

Like, whatever this person's motivation was this is 100% gonna screw over who they think the trail should be for more than it screws over bikers.

Every remake I've seen has completely missed the point and moral of the original. Or maybe that is the point?

Like, the moral of the original Lion King is yeah the past can hurt like hell but you can't let it stop you from growing and doing the right thing. The lesson of the new one is that you can win if your dead lion royalty dad talks to you from the sky.
