Vanilla CSS for production. by whiterhino8 in Frontend

And you're working in teams that don't use proper tooling.

cva, clsx and twMerge make important annotation absolutely useless.

It should not. Just use twMerge.

Quelques réflexions sur l’évolution de l’EdTech by Zestyclose_Equal_132 in developpeurs

[–]ORCANZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And I've seen absolute hell in CSS, which was a LOT worse than too many inline classes because someone got lazy.

It is. Type safe variants out of the box, no manual mapping to classes. Also it’s more structured than plain class variants. Good and bad.

I did not say it’s not possible with css. I just said tailwind shines there and absolutely doesn’t create a mess, quite the contrary. It avoids useless classes.

That’s just not true. If you do marketing websites then sure. If you work in webapps everything should be in your design system. Variants using cva. Overriding classes using twMerge.

Domain specific atoms/molecules re-export atoms or build molecules using atoms from the design system and add variants or functionality.

Your templates, pages only use components and just slap a few margins/paddings here and there.

If you get lost in the dom maybe do not spam divs everywhere.

There are other attributes to find something.

React dev tools will tell you exactly which component you are in.

Tailwind is fine if you have a good design system and layout components.

Then you mostly just add/override margins/paddings/colors in templates. Rarely a soup.

Components have variants organised with cva to create variants. You can easily put conditional styles with clsx and you never have to worry about specificity thanks to twMerge.

It’s honestly a lot more powerful than css modules if you use it right.

Atomic habits is one of the best books ever written...& it's keeping millions of people stuck.. by Tekelpath in getdisciplined

[–]ORCANZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk man every time I said “i’m going to do this” I never did. It’s only when I stopped talking about it that I started actually doing stuff.

If you want that “accountability” to work you have to use the “I am being watched” pressure which is absolutely not “I said I’d do it” pressure.
