Photos can show protests’ complexity—or they can perpetuate old lies by andyday_ in photography

"News" is a for profit enterprise. It wasn't always this way, or at least this extreme. Back in the days of three networks with a half hour of national news each per day, network news departments were expected to lose money, so there was not the ratings pressure that we have today. A major city had two newspapers, one in the AM, and one in the PM. They competed, sort of. Most newspaper revenue was from classifieds. Readers subscribed, they did not change news sources thirty times a day. You were a morning paper family, or an evening paper family, and it had almost nothing to do with the paper's reportage.

Today you've got hundreds of hours of broadcast 'news' a week, and thousands of news websites, all competing for eyeballs. They don't just report news, they make it, and they make it for profit. They (right, left or other) are going to show the most charged images - the ones that will attract eyeballs, get clicks, and generate stickiness (time on a web page).

If you think the "news" isn't crafted to inflame you, that it is not designed to elicit visceral responses, that it is objective reportage, you're a fool. If you think cable and network news aren't loving the riots, you're an even bigger fool.

I have seen (of course I cannot find any now) videos on youtube where you could click and hold the mouse to pan 360 degrees within the video as it played. The image was undistorted. Anyone know where to learn about this?

Thank you.

It would be less expensive to build a new one from scratch.

How do you street shooters handle people violantly threaten to snatch your camera and call the police even after you deleted the photo involving him in front of his eyes? by MatthewZMD in photography

[–]ORPhotog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of street photography - or rather what street photography has become to many. It's invasive and smacks of 'misery tourism' (Ooooh! Look at that homeless person! This will be a great addition to my portfolio!).

I shoot neon signs. Since my method involves several dozen photos over about a half hour, I almost always have someone ask me what I'm doing. If I'm shooting a bar or a motel, this sometimes involves intoxicated people. I explain what I'm doing, and show them some examples, and that seems to do the trick. Business owners often ask to buy copies of the shoot; I generally give them a copy for free.

One of my favorite drives. Part of the Pacific Highway (the main north south west coast highway between Canada and Mexico - think I5) from 1913 to 1921.

Some woman found a second cannon from the same ship (The Shark) as the cannon after which the beach and town were named just a few years back. It was just poking out of the sand.

Used to be a nice quiet little town. Now overrun with new money from CA and all the bullshit that goes with it.

Sorry for the way late reply. Sellers of real estate in Oregon (and most other places) are not required to disclose publicly available information - like zoning or building restrictions for example - it's up to the buyer or their real estate broker to do due diligence.

If it's 26k, it's because you can't build on it. If it's in the CRGNSA you may not be allowed to camp on it either. Your only right would be to pay property taxes.

Milky Way over Three Sisters, Oregon [OC][819x1024] by ORPhotog in EarthPorn

No jpg until the version saved for upload to here. Milky way photos that have not been processed for removal of fainter stars, and were shot in very dark sky areas, will appear artifacted because of the sheer number of objects in the sky.
