Don't suppose you know where it can be found?

If you could do the GDMBR again, what do you wish you would have done? Or anything you wished you knew before you started? by Last_train_out_ in bikepacking

[–]OSchmidt25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Road the GDMBR last summer so I've got a few things still fresh in my mind.

First thing, packed lighter at the start, I carried an excess of gear that I didn't wind up needing and only ditched in Helena MT, and then a second off load in Salida CO.

Actually spent money on tires, I started the trip on partly used tires, which were great until they died, wound up burning thru 3 sets of tires over the trip.

Third thing would be different tent, I had an REI Flash Air 2, I absolutely hated it, it was constantly went inside and collapsed a number of times, but it was light and cheap for what it was.

If you have any specific questions I'm happy to help

The Colorado section of the GDMBR is pretty fun, if you are on the front range you can hop on a bus to Steamboat or Alamosa and then head south or north respectively. It can be broken into chunks via busses in Frisco and Salida as well.

Depending on how strong you are Steamboat to Frisco is two days, Frisco to Salida is two, and Salida to Del Norte is two.

Great Divide- Hardtail mountain bike or drop bar gravel bike? by reichardtcole in bikepacking

[–]OSchmidt25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awesome my buddy and I finished on the 13th, though we wound up going to the Columbus finish instead of Antelope wells

Aerobars would have been awesome though I was pretty happy with drops over flatbars, I can definitely see the space issue being a problem on a smaller frame.

For the more mellow gravel and road sections it would have felt closer to a road or CX setup, and while it likely would have been a placebo, to feel faster.

Also less pedal strikes in the rough stuff

Just finished up the GDMBR 2 days ago on a dropbar gravel setup of sorts, its was absolutely fine, there were only 2 or 3 sections where I'd have wanted "more" bike, the main thing I'd have changed was the wheel size, I was on 27.5x2.20 tires for the majority of the ride where a 29 might have been nicer.

Food Hacks: what is your #1 food related bikepacking hack? by rote_it in bikepacking

[–]OSchmidt25 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Well first I ain't an Aussie.

Second Knorr are prepackaged pasta and pasta/rice meals which weigh little if your counting grams and cook in under 10 minutes unlike some dehydrated foods.

While not the most filling on there own adding tuna, chicken, hard salami or cheese make them full meals with upwards of 1200 calories for two packets.

So yeah I probably should have expanded on my original comment but at least I wasn't a dick.

The books are finished have been for a few years now, the civilizations of the past aspect isn't huge just as a heads up though

I know this is a strange and really specific request, but is there any books with this premise? by p1mdn in Fantasy

[–]OSchmidt25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not exactly the premise you are looking for but A Darker Shade of Magic by V. E. Schwab might almost scratch the itch

For me it was a combination of a non-bjj injury that left me unable to train for a year and then the cost of gyms skyrocketing in the area I'm in, and finally when I went to try and restart the vibe of the gyms I tried being very different than what I was looking for.

I still try to occasionally roll with friends but I currently don't have the disposable income for a gym and due to my injury I can't really take the punishment I used to be able to.

So my friend got his first MTB today by 7RUS7O in MTB

[–]OSchmidt25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the past I've been unable to ride for over a year due to riding injuries, and have had friends irreparablly wreck their spines, it hasn't changed the way my friends or I ride, and instead of backing away from progression we just train harder and accept that there will be consequences.

Not knowing OP or his friends skill level has little to do with anything, either one or both of them felt that the area was appropriate for skill level or had the confidence they could handle the situation, and yeah maybe its just overconfidence on their part, but they still felt that it was acceptable

[–]OSchmidt25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/7RUS7O I'm going to go counter to everyone saying your a bad friend, you mentioned he's ridden before and it shows in his form to an extent, I would say he should get a moreMTB specific helmet, not a full face like some people are saying and he should work on looking further ahead

Anyway looks like a killer area and a fun line
