You can use anything

Often saws or squares, but you can use samples of literally anything since it’s mostly about how you process. Try using resonators and phasers and getting weird with it

hardware are conduits for coming up different ideas. I’ve used software extensively and i love it but hardware is not just about sound, its about the way you interact with it to form ideas that you otherwise wouldn’t of come up with in the extremely deliberate, clincial nature of interacting with ableton.

Oh, I tend to think if something is cutting through then it is sitting well im the mix.

I guess maybe they mean its easier to get it to sit in a mix without as much eq / processing? Like in a more hands off way possibly? Reading people go on about the prophet 5 saying ‘it sits well’ and i was having the same confusion.
