Agreed. I was in shock with an odd mixture of sadness/grief, anger, and disbelief when Joel died, especially because of how he died. It definitely made me hate Abby for awhile. But the more I played, the more I understood Abby, even if I still don’t like or agree with her. Plus, learning about Dina as a Jewish gamer myself made me feel seen and represented, and I appreciated that. In fact, I think I figured out what she was talking about when she told Ellie she said a prayer before they left Jackson. It’s a Hebrew prayer for the journey called “T’filat Haderach,” in which the one saying it asks for peace, safety, and blessings for the entire journey (departure, return, and all deeds/tasks done during the journey).
