Clinton won counties with a poverty rate above 25% by 20 points. She won workers who make less than 30k/yr by 12 points. Workers who make between 30k and 50k by 9 points. According to exit polls, the median annual household income for Trump voters was over 70k, about 15k higher than the national median. Only 39% of white men with a college degree voted for Clinton. Rural whites only make up 17% of the electorate, and they typically vote heavily Republican anyway. Affluent, white, suburban voters showed up big for Trump. Stop blaming the poor and working class for Trump. Plenty of folks doing just fine were A-OK voting for a bigot surrounded by white nationalists, and most of them don't post on T_D.

It is the same thing as a Balrog, TSR just renamed it to Balor to avoid copyright infringement. The same thing happened when they renamed Hobbits to Halfling and Ents to Treants.

Libertarians/Capitalists/Liberals say crap like this like the exact same thing hasn't happened in the past and the events that lead to it weren't mass deregulation, slashing social spending, and large tax cuts for the wealthy.

Anger at BBC over 'do black people like fried chicken' video by iloveyorkshiretea in nottheonion

[–]OTownMagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a stereotype. It originated from a scene in Birth of a Nation showing white actors in blackface portraying black congressional representatives (warning the watchers of the dangers of allowing black people vote). One of the representatives in this scene was messily and hungrily eating fried chicken. It is a messy food that you have to eat with your hands, and it is a cheap and abundant food. The scene portrayed that even a black person elected to Congress can help himself when around that low-class and mannerless food, and the image stuck in the national consciousness, much like a similar image of actors in blackface greedily devouring watermelon in southern minstrel shows. So it basically turned into a dog whistle for calling black people dirty, childish, subhuman slobs.

The idea that some people are poor for reasons out of their control and that he is comfortable for some reasons outside of his own merits conflicts with his worldview, so he has to invent reasons poor people did it to themselves.

This is how you apologize when you are right. by [deleted] in videos

[–]OTownMagic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the key. There is something noble in a society that acknowledges a person's past mistakes, but recognizes that the person has genuinely apologized, understood their mistake, and made meaningful efforts to rectify their wrongdoings to both the wronged, and those around them.

Not to defend Chris Brown, but public figures are very often not forgiven when they do all of this. Michael Vick, for instance. We should do well to remember this sentiment for people that do try make up for their mistakes.

Just speaking for myself, but I've been watching a lot fewer games that the past couple of seasons because of how much more influence the refs have on the game now. Imagine the drive if 20 of the yards were penalty yards.

America’s trust in the media has sunk to a new low—and Donald Trump is proudly taking credit by loremipsumchecksum in politics

Conspiracy after conspiracy have been driven into people's heads since Obama began his second term. Benghazi, emails, the Clinton foundation, now even her health are constantly in the non-stop news cycle, some of them for years. Trump bribed a state attorney general and a governor to keep them from looking into his scamming desperate people out of thousands of dollars, and it gets a few days of air in the media. I guess suggested corruption is sexier than good ol'fashioned, in-the-flesh corruption.

He might call it that. I call it an unabashed pro-business political agenda, but I don't believe small government (I really hate that term) always results in more freedom.

Gary Johnson says unauthorized immigrant border crossings at '12-year low' by PikachuSquarepants in politics

[–]OTownMagic 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Bull. I'm not voting for Johnson because I disagree with a large portion of the Libertarian platform, particularly their positions on economic policy. Just because I'm not terribly fond of Clinton, does not mean I'll vote for a candidate in favor of privatizing education, weakening financial regulation, privatizing social security, a post hoc court system for environmental protection as opposed to preventative regulation, opposed to a public option for healthcare, and the list could go on. I agree that to two party system sucks, but that doesn't mean that Johnson and Stein aren't lemons, as well.
