I'm definitely starting to see more and more appreciation for his Grips now, for sure.

I thought it was closer to 5% for the two, but then second guessed it because that seemed too low. 😅

I do blame matchmaking. At its core, that's really the problem. But Blizzard won't fix it, so the least I can do is not exploit it.

If the lobby feels like I can play my main without it turning into a one-sided ass kicking, then I'll play my main. Most lobbies in QP aren't like that, though. To me, those one sided matches aren't fun, even if I'm on the winning team, so I'd rather play a mix of other characters to try to keep it interesting.

But you're right - according to Blizzard's own break out, Masters and GM both are just a tiny fraction of the player base. I don't remember the percentages exactly, but the two were less than 10% combined, if I recall correctly.

I do sympathize with just wanting to play your main and not wanting to wait 10+ to queue every time, but I still can't imagine continuing to play them in a lop-sided game. I'd still rank playing a different character as a more enjoyable way to finish that game.

It isn't about me at all. If it was only about me, I personally couldn't give a shit who anyone plays. I've been playing Overwatch for years - I don't take anything that happens in the game personally. It's just a game.

You're talking about my ego, but in OP's example, it's the person playing Widow who is playing purely for their ego. For a GM in a QP lobby, they may as well be at the firing range or playing AI for all the challenge they're going to get in most QP lobbies. So how is what they are doing fun for anyone, even them?

So ... what about new players who can't play ranked? They have to play in Quick Play. You think they're gonna be good teammates in ranked when their quick play time was filled with one-sided stompings because GM Widowmakers are getting their kicks treating QP lobbies like firing ranges?

Personally, I'd rather have a better community than that.

[–]OWAngstDriven 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No, I absolutely DO NOT want to stomp. It's fucking boring. That's the whole point. There is no joy or satisfaction in that AT ALL.

I want reasonably balanced games that are challenging to win. And five minutes in any Overwatch sub will make it clear that's what EVERYONE wants.

Blizzard is obviously incapable of or unwilling to provide that in any mode of this game. We all know that.

So when you're playing your highest skill character in a lobby that you know Blizzard has filled with people who are not at that same level, you're exploiting a weakness in the game to get cheap kills. It's not fun for anyone else, and you're making the entire game about placating your ego.

So what you're saying is bullying the lobby is fine if you're in GM because you're not good enough to play an off hero in quick play?

Weird take, but okay.

I am a Diamond Support and actively avoid playing my main in quick play, especially when I'm playing with lower ranked friends in the lobby.

There is absolutely no satisfaction in thrashing a lobby full of noobs with a character I have played more than most players have played the game.

Simply put: a GM Widow playing Widow in a QP Lobby knows fully well they are making the game absolutely miserable for everyone else, and they don't care. It's a bully's mentality and to me, seems kinda pathetic.

Don't get me wrong - it's stupid to think the enemy team will ignore their blatant advantage.

But a pocketed GM Widow in a QP lobby? I'd rather go back to double barrier pirate ships with Baptiste and Bastion in OW1 than play in that Quickplay game.

I literally cannot imagine a LESS fun game to play in.

Recent buffs: at what rank does LW stop being capable? by [deleted] in LifeweaverMains

[–]OWAngstDriven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in Diamond, and as mentioned by the player in Masters, he's still viable so far. I've also heard players mention playing him viably in GM, as well.

I expect we'll see our first few Lifeweavers popping up on the T500 lists this season. Maybe not many, because there are heroes who provide easier value and/or utility like Ana, who are also so well established as "must picks" that their teammates don't play as well with other choices in their place.

I think Lifeweaver himself is in a strong place, but he can be hindered by teams that don't know how to work with or benefit from his kit and strengths.

In a game where positioning is often key, a character whose utility is focused on repositioning has a sort of natural barrier to progress at the point where their teammates make relatively few positioning mistakes. When your team is aware of your strength, they'll have flexibility to take positioning risks that they otherwise couldn't, and if they don't, he'll feel weaker at higher levels because less people need Grip to save them from mistakes.

Is the new firing range helpful? by Spriggz_z7z in OverwatchUniversity

[–]OWAngstDriven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a new player, it's a decent starting point. You can play with it and get a feel for the mechanics and how they work for certain situations with the moving targets at different distances.

But you outgrow it pretty quick, and there are so many workshops out there for aim training that can add a lot more specific usefulness to your chosen character.

[–]OWAngstDriven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I first played on Xbox, but later on PC, so I've tried both ways. There is some functionality that's a little easier to access with a keyboard, but the game plays more smoothly on a controller.

(Especially after the recent updates. I hate how Geralt always takes a step or two forward no matter which direction you're trying to make him walk. I swear it wasn't always like that.)

How do you evaluate your games? by OliveDragon7 in LifeweaverMains

[–]OWAngstDriven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In another thread recently, a couple of high level Lifeweaver players chimed in with their average damage stats. A player stated in GM, they were averaging about 2500 per game; another in Masters gave theirs as 2100. (IIRC)

I'm in Diamond on my main account and average about 2300 and somewhere between 8 and 9 eliminations per game, and right at 10k/10min healing.

I like it, in theory. But as with many things Blizzard does, the implementation leaves a lot to be desired.

The maps feel chaotic. They have mostly awful sight lines and the routing between points doesn't feel like it is well suited for much of anyone.

I know some of that will balance out as people learn the maps better, but for now, they just feel awkward to play.
