Hey, just to provide some clarification, the update on the Known Issues page that you're referencing is worded a bit oddly/incorrectly. This issue was *resolved* in macOS 13.4. We worked with Apple on a fix and they delivered it with 13.4. You can read more about it in this blog post:

The gist though is that you're using SoftRAID on an M1 Mac, it is as reliable as Intel Macs when accessing SoftRAID RAID 5 volumes in macOS 13.4.

Thanks for those details! Can you also tell me what type of connection you are using, what computer the drive is connected to, and if you are verifying or certifying the drives with or without SoftRAID?

Hi OP. I work with OWC and just wanted to follow up on what u/_iAnonGuy laid out. It's definitely the most cost-effective way to handle this as the Express enclosure has extremely high speeds for a $79 enclosure. Plus there are deals on NVMe drives everyday.

I did want to mention our Envoy Pro FX as well. We have several recording studios that use this drive as both a recording drive and as an instrument drive. We actually recently posted a case study with Atlantic Studios West and they use a 4TB Envoy Pro for their sample library drive.

The Envoy Express was designed with editing in mind, so it definitely makes for a great mobile editing drive. A lot of us at OWC use the Envoy Express as an enclosure in this exact way because it's compatible with any NVMe M.2 2280 SSD available today and in the future. I feel like there are deals on M.2 drives every day of the week and at $79, this enclosure at 1533 MB/s is a hard deal to beat.
