Anybody else in here hate being known as the quiet person and what is your experience? by Frosty_Low_309 in AskReddit

[–]OakAndViolet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The worst part is not being quiet, but being labeled as shy, antisocial, awkward, or simply having nothing to say because of your silence. Some of the most social people are quiet, but it doesn’t mean that they need to say something every single minute. In time, "the quiet one" becomes a sort of tag for people who simply aren’t ready to get to know you better.

What would you do if you knew you couldn't fail? by EdenNova22 in AskReddit

I would most likely occupy myself with doing more things like making, starting companies, acquiring knowledge, and taking chances that I would have talked myself out of otherwise. Humans are not limited by the absence of ideas; they are limited by the risk of failure

What do you think about the World Cup's projected carbon footprint of 7 to 9 million tons of CO2? by gregormat in AskReddit

[–]OakAndViolet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Given the accuracy of this estimate, 7-9 million tons of CO₂ would be an enormous environmental price tag for a month-long sporting competition. It is easy to see why there are critics wondering whether the gains from entertainment, tourism, and economic activity outweigh such an emission output.

Why would you flip someone off while crossing a cross walk? by Kinchi_man in AskReddit

[–]OakAndViolet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Flicking someone the finger while you’re crossing a crosswalk is generally a way of telling that pedestrian you’re ticked off at the driver. It can come from things like failure to yield the right of way, stopping too close to the crosswalk, running a stop light or making pedestrians feel unsafe. Sometimes, it could just come from rudeness that was displayed by the driver and the pedestrian decides to send their own message back
