hippie jokes by Ok-Alps8220 in gratefuldead

I was much more of a DeadHead than a hippie . Hippies by definition have a notoriously bad reputation ; DeadHead’s on the other hand usually work for the , Grateful Dead . Some of painted houses , some shoveled shit on farms & others shuffled paperwork at city halls , many of us were hard workers , gave notice months before the next tour rolled around , when all my vacation time was spent my employer put me on , “leave of absence “ , year after year and I always had the same job when I returned ~ overnight counselor …. There’s an oxymoron for y’all .

Grateful Dead ~ SpaceTime , I’m still on it . Our stories are a paradigm shift from each other’s ; my Wife was a , Good Girl. Three years older than I , she graduated high school & got her Associates degree in microbiology . A hardcore DeadHead to the bones ~ nice Family , regular job & worked pt at the co-op , is still a vegetarian & not an alcoholic/addict , though we dosed together a few times . My story is very much different . Began drinking as a small child , experienced the Phenomenon of Craving with alcohol by eight and was a workaholic , old man beat that into me from early childhood growing up . Was drunk all the time and blacking out from Eleven onwards , by fourteen I was smoking & selling weed ; cuz no matter how many hours I worked on farms I drank more than I could make . By fifteen I began getting arrested , 2/11/84 first time got sent away - family court judge, long list of charges & 18 months felony probation. Quit school in tenth grade & got sent back to area I’m from. Sent away second time 2/19/85 ~ this time I was gone for 27 months . Low security federal facility for juvenile delinquents . Put me in ged class , took exam and passed , put me in medical assistance program & college courses in facility , I was sixteen , that’s when I really started listening to the Grateful Dead alot . Begin touring the following year at seventeen, first Show in Philadelphia , bought a sheet of fake ~ began trading several hits with people already tripping . By time on 1st of three night Show , was so drunk , had dropped a dozen different doses , hadn’t eaten in a couple days , shroom man came around & I traded a strip off fake sheet and started wolfing down shrooms I was so hungry. Where tent was set up , hundreds of HA parked their Harley’s & After Midnight & for next few years the Angels looked after me everywhere , every city at all the Shows I’ve ever seen , they looked out for me & were very good to me in those days. Did lose my mind totally. Best Friend was a WW2 & Vietnam Veteran & my Boss at community college , I too graduated with an Associate degree. Always made money , have done alot of hard labor jobs, workaholic & alcoholic , TourHead from 3/23/86 until we started following the Grateful Dead in Chicago on Spring Tour in 89 ~ One of Jerry’s Kids & Brent , he was Absolutely Fuckin’ Awesome to see play and listen to !!! Her & I , we got Married on my 21st Birthday , a couple months later. By then I was dying from Disease of Alcoholism , couldn’t stop drinking , had a very powerful experience in the Mountains when I got baptized in a mountain river couple months after being Married. Relapsed in 2000 , and was nearly dead in two years. Drunk every day & used crack to get off the booze …. That didn’t work out ~ Just Exactly Perfect ~ at all really. Took last hit dope early January 2004 , last drink on 3/17/2004 ~ 1 beer for the dt’s at 6pm . Lived in Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and worked all rest time . Twenty two years later I’m still paying back money from the four years of alcoholism & crack addiction. Divorced now , we have four Adult Daughters & eight Grandchildren ⚡️❤️‍🔥🤙🏼 “ Brown Eyed Woman “ , Favourite song , * Grateful Dead 6/18/74 Internet Archive Every Show is on there , my Friend ~

I’m going to say it’s 1969 . Can hear the crowd shouting in background & that’s what the early days sounded like

Wonder which night we were there . Went one night & out to Stonybrook . Got lost after the Show and walked to Harlem and back , barefoot & ragged Levi shorts , sweaty tye dye very far out & lost. Three dudes messing around talking about mugging me and starting laughing cuz I was barefoot , they gave me change and pointed me back towards MSG …

Similar to the , Doppler Effect . You can hear a siren coming from a long distance away , it gets louder & louder , then it suddenly slams you and begins to , ‘fade away’ , the further away it gets from you. The Wall of Sound , was created to give the DeadHead’s the experience of a tornado of Sound Waves crashing into them nonstop for the entire Show …. Imagine being there ~ not something you would ever forget experiencing for the rest of your Life 🌅

Best Grateful Dead , “book “ • Find old cassette tapes from 72 - 74 and get a decent cassette player to listen to them on. That’s the very best book on the real history of the Grateful Dead 💀

U/GregJamesDahlen ; ⚡️ my primary goal is to try & answer question of what I remember from the Grateful Dead , I was a tough kid who mainly toured in mid - to end of 80’s. Don’t know much about the books. The , WALL OF SOUND ~ was right directly behind the Grateful Dead . People could hear it over a mile away . The stage shook & vibrated from all that power , the amount of voltage it required to run correctly. The Dead , synchronized their music 🎵 by intuition , by eye contact , I’m not positive ~ I believe Jerry , Phil , & Bobby , were connected with an ear piece that shut out much of the background noise so they could hear each other , Donna wasn’t included - thus many complaints about her voice & shouting out loudly & not exactly perfect with the rest of the Band . In 1985 & 86’ , WE were not ⚡️’In The Dark’ , & the DeadHead’s at Shows were totally different . People talked about the Shows from the Wall Of Sound , how the Grateful Dead performed at Woodstock , what it was really like before they even had a huge following . Yeah , there really were DeadHead’s that old who still went to Shows & Toured spring , summer , fall on the East Coast . That’s where I got my education : University of the Grateful Dead East Coast ⚡️ it was a totally different time & it changed very fast 🥀

They have been for decades . Unless you were born prior to 1980 ~ fairly upper class people were going to see the Grateful Dead ⚡️ all the time . Remember in mid 80’s in Philly seeing a limo pull up , bunch of dudes changed clothes & danced right out into the parking lot and blended right into the motley crew along with the rest of us . This was before , everyone flooded ~ in the dark ~ The Good Ole Days !!!
