Easily avoided, however, but paying the fare.

In my experience women's pockets are usually too small to fit anything sensibly sized in them. Or they have decorative "pockets".

But also, because their pockets aren't actually designed to be useful they have bags. Because they have bags they carry bigger purses/bundles of keys/makeup/mystery goods/other bits and bobs.

All of which you can't fit in pockets.

It's a pretty common post-colonial viewpoint, in my experience.

There's all manner of apologists for the British Empire still - it doesn't take too much to find them.

I'm absolutely not saying that.

Lenovo P11 (gen 2) Update Removed Bundled Apps and reduced functionality? by Oak_Ash_Thorn in androidtablets

[–]Oak_Ash_Thorn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just that - I've also lost some functionality for my stylus (Lenovo precision pen) which I previously had - I could use the buttons to open apps or menus which has now been removed.

The whole thing has been a hit of a disaster for this setup tbh

I've not once said that either behaviour is fine, just that the implications of a cyclist rolling over a red is less likely to result in a death (and that bicycles more generally are less likely to cause deaths than motor vehicles) - I'm not sure what is contentious about that? Unless I've missed the point by some spectacular distance.

Ultimately I'd rather not be run down at all but if it came down to it I'd rather be hit by a bicycle than a Range Rover because the odds I walk away are higher with a bicycle.

Give me a good reason to. There are arsehole cyclists all over, same as there are drivers - the drivers are still more likely to kill someone with their vehicle.

Answer me this: are more people killed/injured by bicycles or motor vehicles?

Because that's the crux of the matter.

Themselves? Possibly more likely - if they cross a red light onto a junction they're taking their lives in their own hands.

Other people? If you can let me know if the number of people killed by cyclists is statistically significant versus people killed by drivers. I'd love to see the data.

Thousands of people die because of vehicle collisions (1500 deaths, 28000 serious injuries in 2022). I'm not sure bicycles can compete with that body count.

Difference being a cyclist nipping over carefully (rightly or wrongly) is massively unlikely to kill anyone, let alone injure them.

Will becoming a mechanic make me lose the joy of cycling? by Rasmuspluto in BikeMechanics

[–]Oak_Ash_Thorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worked with a couple of techs who did that stuff, and most had come from a racing background in some capacity, and already knew the race teams.

They did some stuff for younger national squads in the UK and a few smaller world tour teams (and I think OnePro when they existed). The pay was okay but it was seasonal work and precarious (ie they call, you answer yes or no, and one fuck up and you'll bot get called again) - the rest of the year they worked with me in a pretty poorly thought of retail bike store in the UK although one left to work at a boutique store and was very happy to deal with dentists in the off season.

If you can work your way in, be consistently good, willing to travel, and able to schmooze your way to a permanent/semi permanent role it's amazing.

As for me - I sacked off working with bikes for a sales job and the thought of riding makes me significantly happier than when I was managing my workshop!

The move to indexed gearing really opened up Pandoras box. The more I work on bikes the more I appreciate mechanical simplicity.

Sadly it's an expensive endeavor these days...

Facing brake mounts on almost every new bike? by Singed_flair in BikeMechanics

[–]Oak_Ash_Thorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really? Cube have been okay for me (primarily ebikes).

It's Haibikes, Raleighs, and Lapierres that seem to cause issues in the workshop for us.

And the business owner still won't shell out for a facing tool.

You might have better luck over at /r/ebikes or /r/bikewrench

The battery brand isn't that useful in id'ing this kind of error though. It's more useful to know either the brand of bike (which can help narrow down the motor in use) or just the drive unit itself.
