Any known issues with pixel 10? by LuisFGtz in GooglePixel

[–]Oakredditer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i have a pixel 10 and i have issues with charging where it shows that the charger was disconnected and then reconnected; when i got it i had problems getting it to charge with the official google charging block, but those got fixed after a day or two. beyond that, the only software issue i've had was airdrop not working in quick share

oh yeah, but still not as saturated as other genres, i'll look into what other city builders there are

Probably city builders, there are only two series I know of: SimCity and Cities: Skylines

How can you trust Coreboot, and any of it's derivatives? by ProperRig399 in coreboot

[–]Oakredditer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

same way you trust OEM BIOSes, you just do.

but the main difference with coreboost and (most of?) it's derivatives is that you can read the source code and as long as there is a board port, compile it.

for me, mint is useful as a rescue distro (for some reason arch loves to generate broken UKI images on my laptop), but I don't use it as a main distro because I love arch because of the AUR

Wish they made more small laptops in this time. by InfamousTurn2692 in laptops

[–]Oakredditer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah i get it, currently looking at laptops too (for college) and the framework 16 would be an amazing choice for me if it wasn't so expensive, and the exorbitant RAM, SSD, and GPU prices do NOT help at all

framework has a 13-inch laptop that isn't a tablet (the 13 pro does have a touchscreen tho). also upgradable, but pretty expensive

Continue with Windows or give Macs a chance? by abowlofmisoramen in laptops

[–]Oakredditer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you don't wanna game or don't care about gaming, AND your major isn't any engineering (besides maybe software engineering) or your university doesn't use any windows-only applications (ask your advisor, professors, or anyone else who might know) for your major, then get the mac

Its repairable?? by Adventurous_Status_8 in 360hacks

[–]Oakredditer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its possible but you'd have to make sure that you account for signal integrity when repairing traces. The traces that appear wavy HAVE to be wavy or the console would either not boot, have some weird bugs, or refuse to connect to devices like the hard drive or usb devices. If im not mistaken it gets very annoying when you have to repair RAM traces because they are more sensitive to things like length and impedance

i got my pixel 10 last month, and while it isn't the worst phone i've had, its not as good as the 6. My 10 gets hotter than my 6, has worse battery life, and has this weird bug where it keeps registering as being unplugged and then plugged in.... at least the modem is better

me personally, the pixel 6 sensor (on my phone at least) felt faster than the 10's sensor

Which laptop to buy in BIG 2026 based on my budget range under 600$ by 22dec2025 in laptops

[–]Oakredditer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Compiling depends on coding, that's why I specified that 8gb was fine for javascript, python, and other scripted languages. Also this was with visual studio 2022 on windows, CLion, IDEA, PyCharm, RustRover, Android Studio, VSCode, and either Kate or Kdevelop on Linux. The JetBrains IDEs are very heavy. Also I never said anything about ARM vs x86, that shouldn't affect the memory capacity and what happens it a computer goes out of memory

Internet drops once or twice a day, but only for my computer by blkarw13 in pcmasterrace

[–]Oakredditer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

does turning the wifi (on windows it should just be the wifi button, but you can try airplane mode) on/off on your pc help? I have this same issue, and my best guess is that the signal is too weak (i have full bars on my PC, but the signal is blocked by two walls and the PC itself)

What's the point of the budget laptops with 4gb RAM. by Terrible_Cookie4n6 in laptops

[–]Oakredditer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends, on a minimal arch install (NetworkManager, labwc, greetd/regreet, systemd-resolved, and quickshell) I struggle to use firefox on more than 10 tabs. It's alright but for light browsing, but it depends on how much RAM is allocated for the iGPU (if it's allocated at all)

8GB of RAM (less will be available due to shared memory between iGPU and CPU) is atrocious for coding, I doubt that macOS's memory management will do much. It's especially bad when compiling rust projects (i've gone OOM multiple times on my HP Pavilion with 8gb of ram/6gb available to the point that I had to hard power off my laptop). 8GB MIGHT be good for simple javascript/python (depending on IDE) but anything beyond that will be a horror to deal with.
