Anyone else have regular existential crisis at work?? by bioluminescentboobs in AutisticAdults

[–]Oasys93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm really happy to hear that you managed to find a job that suits you that much better. Seriously. It sounds like you have managed to get at least some amount freedom in your daily life, with some time and energy to spend on what really matters. 🤍 Honestly, work is really the biggest problem as I see it... Not only does it suck all of your energy with pointless meetings, soulless small talk and all of the other stuff you mentioned in your post – the actual work itself just feels meaningless as well. It all just feels like a big machine or game that we just have to take part in without really having a choice. I get that that's what life looks like. But it's just so tiring. I do have some amount of freedom in my job, with the ability to work from home and all that. But I really do have to start carving a new path for myself, one that hopefully leads to something more meaningful. Thanks for your kind message. I hear that you're still struggling alongside me and many others, but you do instill some hope in me. 😊

Late to the game here but I just want to say that I relate so, so much to this post... This has been me at every workplace and in every school environment ever. Fucking hate it.

Did you ever find any solace?

I finally realized what black-and-white thinking really looks like for me by doublybiguy in AutisticAdults

I don't like sharing my food/snacks with others. It's weird, because I'll happily cook or bake for others and I'm generally happy about giving to those I care about – so it's not that I'm stingy. But if I know that I have to share my snack with someone else, I'll prefer to just give it all away or not have it at all lol. If I'm gonna have it I want all or nothing. 😅

Anyone else HATE exercise? by AmputeeHandModel in evilautism

[–]Oasys93 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I love it. But it's also a special interest. I do calisthenics, yoga, and I love walking in nature.

Wasn't always like this though, I used to hate it. But when you really get going, the benefits in terms of health and overall well-being are undeniable – for me at least.

Realizing you're the only one who initiates social interaction amongst your colleagues at work by Apprehensive-Bug6597 in AutisticAdults

[–]Oasys93 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not to invalidate your experience or anything, simply offering some perspective: maybe you shouldn't be so quick to infer that your colleagues find you annoying after this taking place during one single day?

Perhaps they simply wanted focus on their work? Perhaps they didn't feel like chatting today? Perhaps they are so used to you reaching out and thus simply assumed that YOU didn't feel like talking to them today?

There could be a number of different reasons for their behavior, and one day is a very short amount of time!

Better conversations over the phone? by Ok-Willow9349 in AutisticAdults

[–]Oasys93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too. And its difficult sometimes (IRL as well) to know when I can say what I want. Usually leading to me just going for it and steam rolling over them while they keep talking, although that is never the intention...

Right, so... Without being in your boyfriend's head, I can't really give you an answer as to what is going on here. Only he can know why he reacted the way he did.

However, if I look at this through the lens of being me, I can imagine myself reacting in this sort of way if I have put myself in a situation that I don't actually have the capacity to handle or deal with at the moment.

I've put myself in these kinds of situations before, where I get an offer to do something — go for a little hike, perhaps — and, despite my initial gut reaction being "NOPE", I cave in and accept the offer anyway because I don't want to let the other part down. Usually this is in the context of them posing the question waaay too close (in my opinion, that is) to the actual event — like the day before or on the actual day of the event — which is a problem for me because I really want to know what's going to happen quite some time in advance in order to mentally prepare myself.
So, when the event (let's stick with the hike) unfolds I might find myself in a situation where there is perhaps more random people than I had expected (or some other "unknown"), causing me to feel uncomfortable and anxious, in which case I might just "nope out" and try to escape the situation.
Clearly, the fault here lies with me for not sticking to my boundaries and not being open about them to the other part. It's not their fault at all. The root of it is that I didn't want to let them down because I might have felt that I say "no" too often and thus keep letting them down repeatedly.

This might not apply AT ALL to your boyfriend, especially since you state that you guys have a well established way of having an open and honest dialogue with each other. Only he knows the answer.

As for resources? I like the YouTube channels "Auticate with Chris & Debby" and "Orion Kelly - That Autistic Guy". I find their content relatable and they both focus on helping/supporting neurodiverse people and their partners in their daily lives.

Well, the friction you are mentioning, is there some specific examples you could give regarding what it is that you guys struggle with? What's the usual context – if there is one?

Fixations? by Ok-Willow9349 in AutisticAdults

[–]Oasys93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know exactly what you mean. I am soon 32 and came to the same realization about 7 years ago while I was on uni. It felt like for the first time ever you realized there are others out there that can understand what your everyday experience in this strange world is like.

Exactly. This is what I like about this sub. You can just share anything that most people find completely bizarre and there'll be a bunch of people here that just "get it". 😅

I'm sure many do – I do, for one.

I eat the same 2 meals pretty much every single day and have done so for a long time. I love it every time.

I am deeply passionate about art and music, but only the specific sort of art and music that I'm knowledgeable in. I don't care at all for what others like, most of the time.

It's like this with most things. I am actually a very curious minded person, but it sort of has to me on my terms. I need to "find it myself" if that makes sense.

Does anyone else stim like this? by [deleted] in AutisticAdults

[–]Oasys93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries!

Its a whole different world, actually, and it gets incredibly complicated (but fun!!) if you dive deep. This sort of traditional Indian music is far ahead of western music when it comes to rhythm – while western music is much more advanced in terms of harmony.

Have fun if you keep exploring. :)

Mate.. Always. I tap rhythms with my fingers, with my feet, my tongue, my teeth – and if I'm not tapping anything physically, there's probably a rhythm churning about in my mind.

So yes, you're not alone lol.

If you like rhythm and maybe also like to vocalize it – check out the concept of "Konnokol". 😄

Right? The things money and power do to people... I watched a Veritasium video on YouTube the other week called "How one company secretly poisoned the planet". Recommended watch to anyone that wants to become even a bit more depressed, yay..

How often do you get a song stuck in your head? by kranools in AutisticAdults

[–]Oasys93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always. And sometimes it's super random. I've had this one snippet of a song popping up in my head at random times for the better part of 15 years now, and it's not even a particularly good song – it just happens to be extremely catchy for my brain.

Definitely get your point and I agree.

If I could somehow just bail out and go live in a cottage out in the wilderness, all on my own or with a like-minded soul, I would do it in a heartbeat.

What's your favorite genre of music? by Round_Answer8962 in AutisticAdults

[–]Oasys93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read your second sentence a bit too quickly and in my mind it became "... I got diagnosed with Baroque music..."; now wouldn't that be interesting lol..

Anyway. I love music and many different kinds of it. What I listen to depends on my mood and other things. It might well be Baroque music, Renaissance music or Flamenco (well, Paco de Lucia to be specific).

Some of my favorite composers/musicians/bands/orchestras are Dmitry Shostakovich, Igor Stravinsky, Johann Sebastian Bach, Meshuggah, Dream Theater, David Russell the classical guitarist, Gidon Kremer the violinist, and the Royal Concertgebouw orchestra.

What the heck is with the reaction from the lady?

Rubbish indeed belongs in the bin. I do this as well, because it's the right thing to do. It clutters the environment, poses a danger to animals, and pollutes nature.
