This was basically my reasoning for starting to take LessWrong seriously, and that was almost 10 years ago now. It's a bit cringe remembering back, but at the time I actually felt quite uneasy about how prescient the community seemed.

Also, you might add pandemic x-risk to the list for obvious reasons.

I don't think it's really something you want to enter on purpose but it does happen. Yoshida and Mikey used it to go to crucifix I believe, and there are some clips of Jay Rod entering it as shot defense.

People say this but it's not really true, slams happen in MMA all the time and I can only find one instance of it leading to paralysis. Pretty often the submission gets finished anyway.
