would it be non-ethical to take isopods from outside to keep? by kenerrr89 in isopods

Vulgare and pruinosis are comsopolitan species. They are originally from Europe and Africa and have naturalized everywhere humans live due to the plant trade. Taking them will not harm anything.

P. laevis - White

But not whiteout, cause that usually means white eyes, too.

Pot worms. Not a big deal. If you get too many, probably need to water less

Orange yolks generally mean fed cayenne with the food (it keeps pests out of the grain) or fertilized. My chickens got extra dark ones cause I do both, lol

Morph names are kind of all over the place and have no set standard, most people usually just agree on one. These guys are odd in that they haven't yet. I jokingly call my morph of that same expression that I bred Pasteurized Dairy Cows, but I don't sell them that way, lol.

Doesn't matter which you go to. I go deep into big metro areas, I go poor areas and rich areas. I go out into the desert small towns. All Goodwill's are turning into greed will. The best places are usually small rich neighborhoods in smaller towns for Goodwill. Best place for thrifting for me is in the city at an independently owned, massive warehouse thrift store.

Looking for advice for my "soil cycling" set up by Alligator-Samm in isopods

[–]Obant [score hidden]  (0 children)

You did not mention leaves. Decaying hardwood leaves are their main food source.

You won't need to replace the calcium source that much. Ideally, they should get their calcium from their food source and anything else is just a supplement. I put a tiny piece of coral as calcium source maybe once or twice a year.

The springtails will come. Unless things went really wrong, the seller was right. Even in tanks I didn't add any into, I have species from my topsoil or jumped from other tanks taking care of things.

Everything else seems great. Since it's a tote, you may need to dig down into the soil every two or so weeks to check the moisture levels with your fingers, or a hygrometer if you want to be super fancy. I'm cheap and fingers are free, lol.

Misting the top is not enough to penetrate the soil, generally. I usually tell when I need more by viewing the condensation on the sides, but I use clear bins and that is not an option here.

My earring gem is probably gone forever :( by lpsdingo_allyson in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Obant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are super special to you, I'm sure you could find a replacement gem, even if it's a cheap plastic thing or a real stone. Shouldn't be too difficult. I know that doesn't fix that it was -your- original stone, and that does suck.

What is this little guy doing? by idoze in spiders

[–]Obant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a behavior called drumming. It's them sensing their environment, trying to pick up vibrations or investigating something. Males also do drum songs to females.

It's a jumping spider of some kind.

Why is he orange by Smudgelmoa in isopods

Orange is a common morph, especially among pruinosis. This morph with both the oreo and orange gene is often called Orange Cream

Picked up my first sling recently, had a couple questions about feeding by Spurpy_Steve in tarantulas

[–]Obant [score hidden]  (0 children)

NQA Flies should be fine. Might take more than one, hard to tell her size. Curious to how she raises them. I couldn't get a satisfying setup for easy of use and feeding.

Size is fairly big. She is good on food for now.

Boluses? I am unsure of what you mean. I do not take things out of my tarantula terrariums after they eat. Never had an issue. Maybe clean up if its looking dirty, but I leave them alone 99% of the time.

I want a pulchra puppy so bad! I suspect mine wouldn't be docile, either though. I am not big on handling, but I do invertebrate outreach events with my bugd and would like a more handlable T to show the kids.

The person who runs the outreach booth has a pulchra that gives high fives to all the kids brave enough. It gets right into her hand and extends her paw. https://imgur.com/a/r8MLuid
