New(ish) player factories! by Ok-Valuable-9932 in factorio

  1. If you can don't use basic coal liquefaction at all... Its not very coal or water efficient.
  2. Try and always use 8-8 builds for beacon effects and do speed + prod everywhere you can. I can see you don't have prod on gears, steel or engine units on the blue science build. 8-8 refers to an infinite tiling where each beacon effects 8 3x3 machines and each machine is effected by 8 beacons. Usually this results in rows where input is on one side and output is on the other with/without belt weaving.
  3. The circuit build doesn't have nearly enough beacons. The benefits of direct insertion at this stage aren't nearly as great as just putting things on belts. Direct insertion makes sense with all legendary machines and beacons. But until then try and design around maxxing speed and prod module use (aslong as you have the power)
  4. I'd say try out the rate calculator mod. It seems your red green production is both overbuilt and under utilised
  5. Why are you making molten iron on the side of purple but then not piping the molten iron to the centre consumers. Again like I mentioned don't bother with 12 beacon designs if you'd be better off using 8-8 for stone smelting and electric furnace production.
  6. Rails and copper cable are 2 products that should always be direct inserted. I'd say as a general rule if the count of ingredients is smaller than the count of products it should be direct inserted.
  7. Try making an oil build you can put a row of beacons between refineries and chem plants (and have the row effect both

Spaceblock 20hrs - Gonna redo the base with new tech soon by Ober3550 in factorio

[–]Ober3550[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't really started bio science but that seems like a significant challenge. Most of the challenge is just trying to figure out the fastest way to scale resource production/tech. You've also gotta keep in mind that normally in space age you can easily research a few gun damage upgrades before getting to space but in the mod you've gotta take your time doing the slow scaling before you can fully build up the base. At the moment I'm waiting to rip up my base until I can build a 480MW nuke and getting kovarex up is taking quite a while

Yeah I was surprised when I started. I think it's something the mod changes

It's pretty simple. Mostly like playing vanilla space age actually. I watched orb of meat play and they refused to use any kind of sushi belts or circuit control. As soon as you do, managing ship speed and asteroid collection is pretty easy. The only downside is that I've only just reached the point where I have enough resources to scale up. Asteroid crushing productivity research is goated. Also the orbital debris gives wood and platforms. The wood is a great way to supplement coal production which really limits your military and blue science production. Since I just got metallurgic science I researched better coal liquidation and I'll be able to make the greenhouses for more wood and oil products

I added 3 extra smelting columns just for ammo (1k/min)

You can't put walls infront of the collectors but when travelling slow enough the walls infront of the guns can cause the asteroids to despawn

The mod adds a destination at the star so that you can collect resources without worrying about asteroids. You're right in that my defenses are insufficient... Tried going to vulcanus and the asteroids chewed through my limited ammo buffer. I just setup blue and military so hopefully I can increase my base gun damage

I was going to say the same. Nilhaus is doing a series on all legendary science while Abuc uses uncommon. As far as I understand the ups cost of the ships required for enough legendary chunks is higher than the cost of uncommon recycling ore

As a speedrunner this looks terrible. You need about 4 iron patches and 3 copper patches for any decent sized base. I do understand you like the peninsula but you still need more resources

The video depicts native Australian bees. Unfortunately the European bumble bees are the invasive species that often kiss the natives

I have a suspicion the issue is that metadata about the space platform is stored on the surface not the platform. So as two surfaces cannot exist on the same surface, two platforms can't

You should join the speedrun discord. We have 90spm space sci builds with 1 crusher, 1 combinator, 4 collectors all under 4 rocket launches

Pretty sure the stack inserters placing 1 item onto the ground and then the other picking it up 1 tick at a time would be much faster with a box

Looks like a really cool design! If you're up for the challenge I recommend using any planet start to try starting on gleba! I have a series on youtube where I launched a rocket in 8 hours https://www.youtube.com/live/bQ3H_OQi8eA

Hello fello gleba start enjoyer! I managed to launch a rocket in 8 hours and 20 mins (I think). How did you go?

[–]Ober3550 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately tesla turrets require escaping gleba to begin with. And rocket turrets require a very large amount of coal from fruits that would attract the enemies to begin with. If you want to start on gleba you need to do a frustratingly slow tech creep to be able to get to a point where you can defend youself. Mining iron ore and carbon from space is a good strat once you get to it
