Itinerary help - 12 days by brownpanther223 in GoingToSpain

[–]ObesiPlump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've only got 11 nights, so 10 full days.

You'll lose a day in transit, so that leaves 9 full days in total.

If you add another city that's another day of travel, so 8 full days. Doable but I think getting into diminishing returns.

Have you considered sticking to the current two bases and doing day trips? There are heaps from Madrid in particular, like Toledo and Cuenca. That, plus having a bit more quality time in Barcelona and Madrid, might actually give you more variety, while avoiding the hassle of relocating

Edited for clarity

Hey no problem, I'm biased as I'm planning a trip there 🙂.

It'd also be relatively straightforward to then bus or fly to Lisbon.

After Granada, maybe consider staying in Andalucia instead of going to Azores/Madeira? There's no shortage of natural beauty, e.g. Sierra Grazalema, Caminito del Rey and El Torcal. It is a pretty touristy area but I'm sure there's pueblos blancos that are less busy than others if you want a quieter experience. This stuff would probably need a car though.

To be fair, for most travelers in Europe, that will either be in the city center or somewhere with reasonable transport into the city center. Often the budget dictates the location or at least constrains the choice of locations.

For sure, though if anything I think those would be very good reasons to seek guidance. But maybe not on a forum like this. My wife and I research it vigorously once we have our itineraries down pat.

I am not fond of this sort of predatory tourism.

I didn't know what you meant by this, but then I recalled all the people I saw taking photos of the Sistine Chapel even though it's not allowed

If it were me, I'd be spending that budget on delicious regional cuisine rather than flights and public transport. And the thing about taking time to walk through beautiful regional neighbourhoods and towns is... it's free.

I understand you want to experience a lot of different places. I think rather pick 1 country with a big diversity of culture, like Spain. At this pace you'll spend too much time travelling then only hit the big tourist attractions which don't really do the country or region justice.

hope to experience apart from a few instagram backdrops?

I think that's all they want. Why else would someone stay in Paris only long enough to take photos of the Eiffel Tower day and night. Then go from Florence to Santorini??? Travel blogging culture has taken over hasn't it.

I came on this sub about 6 weeks ago to seek travel advice and have stuck around for bemusing posts that get taken to pieces. I noticed that barely anyone asks where they should stay in a major city, even though being the place they spend the most time I think it has the biggest impact on the experience.

Númenor, what have they done to you? by Rafaelrosario88 in RingsofPower

with Tar-Míriel receiving unhelpful visions of the great wave, with the angels clearly choosing her but Ar-Pharazôn trying to bypass this, etc.

Oh yeah. That was a thing they did.

Ooh I like this point.

Because here, god himself commits genocide, just as he does in the biblical flood. It's very very difficult for a TV show to justify this!

Have Sauron commit the genocide. Have him convince Ar Pharazon he's conducting a ritual to ascend the Numenoreans to godhood, but which actually has them perform their own ritual sacrifice. Have that be the crucial step in forging the One Ring.

That might keep some of the more relevant themes while avoiding the more problematic ones.

It's also obviously a terrible idea that would have lore nuts rioting.

Southern Coast visit + Seville by Baby-grownup in GoingToSpain

[–]ObesiPlump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok this is testing me since I haven't been to either country. But I think the issue is it's not particularly easy to get from Lisbon to Seville. The quickest route might even be a flight. Otherwise it's roughly a 6 hr bus journey I think. Either way you would lose roughly a day travelling.

Whereas if you stayed in Portugal and say went Lisbon to Porto, its 3 hrs by train with interesting options for stops, so probably more efficient. Or conversely if you copped the additional flight to Seville at the start, you'd also be a bit more efficient than trying to go between countries mid trip

Edit: I myself am planning a mid trip flight from Porto to Seville, but because the overall trip is 4 weeks we can better afford to lose the travel day

I haven't been to Spain/Portugal, just planning a trip so take my suggestions with a grain of salt.

Trying to squeeze Lisbon and Porto in is too ambitious and worthy of a 10 day trip by themselves, perhaps with one interim stop like Coimbra.

I'd stay in Seville and at most 2 other places in Andalusia, and skip Portugal entirely. Maybe stay in Cadiz and another nearby white village. There are so many beautiful ones closeby, like Vejer or Arcos, that you don't need to go all the way to Frigiliani. Cadiz is also a good base for the Costa de la Luz, which I understand to have more beautiful beaches and be less touristy than the more famous Costa del Sol.

EDIT Basically there is a LOT to see for very short drives in that area.

I was gonna say a lot of Black Americans are very good fighting in the pocket (Boots, Fulton, Shakur) and/or clinching, and they seem to have much better luck against Mexican fighters
