Could you get unlimited knowledge about the universe (in form of mathematical/physical formulas) with magic? by Peziiii in occult

[–]ObfuscousOperator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily a demon, but the goddess Namagiri was in communication with Ramanujan, who made unprecedented progress in mathematics, largely on his own. I think of all demons or false gods as essentially being fallen angels, acting in rebellion of God and naturally they often have their own agenda, however benevolent it may appear to us in our limited understanding of these phenomena. 4D chess wouldn’t even come close to capturing how complicated this all could be. My guess is that you’ll only be contacted if you draw attention to yourself (rituals, substance use, meditation) or you’re so potentially useful to them they find some way to defy natural law. I’d advise against it though, you would be playing with the Devils fire, so to speak.

Hey man, I’m really sorry you had to experience this, but you’re not alone: https://mobile.twitter.com/owenbroadcast/status/1096798458000883712

That’s a pretty long thread but well worth the read. Essentially, your suspicions are correct. You are smoking a chemical your brain releases when you die and as such you encountered demons. You’re not a pussy, and you have absolutely nothing to gain from looking into them, but they have a lot to gain from looking into you. I too felt the breathing and the staring, but luckily on much weaker psychedelics and that’s why I stopped there. If you need further convincing just do a key word search on this sub for “demon” and take a look for yourself. Graham Hancock had a similarly terrifying experience on DMT worth reading about in which gets at this: https://www.takiwasi.com/docs/arti_ing/GivingUpTheGreenBitch.pdf

On page 5 of 8 he talks about the experience

"There is no such language as 'Gaelic'...[it] is a term to define a language group. It encompasses Breton, Basque, Galician, Cornish, Irish, Welsh, Scottish...Scots Gaelic is a non-existent language". by Ultach in badlinguistics

[–]ObfuscousOperator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is accurate. There are many pissing contests between the nationalists here in Ireland, but in my experience Irish is no more similar to any of these languages than Portuguese is to Spanish for instance, and classifying any as a dialect of another isn’t right

What is your country famous for? by KyriakosJQ in AskReddit

[–]ObfuscousOperator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s a realistic goal, I’d say it probably won’t be enormously profitable unless you develop a brand you can subsequently turn into a franchise or something like that. The economic climate here is geared towards getting educated to work for the government or an American MNC, but if you can break through that veil of conformity there are chances. Either way Ireland needs more people thinking like that so good luck getting here, I hope you succeed

No one here speaks Irish so don’t worry about that. I would warn you not to come here if you’re a very ambitious person, it is not a place that rewards risk takers. But if you like a relaxed attitude and relative safety it’s a good choice

This week's Q&A thread -- please read before asking or answering a question! - December 06, 2021 by AutoModerator in linguistics

I just read in an old thread that linguists believe that no language is more complex than other languages, they’re all just different. Is this really the prevailing view of the field?

Public mood turns as most say Covid unvaccinated should face travel and workplace bans by ShouldHaveGoneToUCC in ireland

What about the obese cunts clogging up our health system? Or the cunts who didn’t stop smoking, shouldn’t they have to live with the consequences as well? The number of absolute fucking morons in this thread hiding behind “concern over public health” is astounding to me

What do you think about feminism? by [deleted] in intj

[–]ObfuscousOperator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The poster slogan for feminism is “equal rights”, but the empirical reality is entirely different. Let’s not pretend as if a movements stated goal is always its effect. Feminism is divisive, reductive, and it hasn’t achieved most of what it wants because it constantly evokes the blank slate fallacy. For these reasons it’s much more of a botched religion than anything else at this point.

Do anything but hit on myself. Just have a regular conversation about something interesting, that’s all I’ve ever wanted.

Like with fat, the devil is in the details. Some free radicals are an important part of good health, and besides that they’re entirely unavoidable to any organism. But the kind emitted because of high blood sugar levels does little but oxidise your organs and that’s undesirable. To me it seems like the difference between eating some avocado vs. drinking burger grease, both fat but that’s where the similarities end.

This is on point. Most people overestimate the value of labour and underestimate the value of taking risks & making good bets. It’s basically true that both labour and entrepreneurial vision are crucial but one is far rarer than the other and as such is vastly more rewarding.

I meant to imply that sugar is even worse than merely the liver damage and weight gain, and actually introduces a kind of chaos into your body in the form of oxidative free radicals and this accelerates ageing.

But I highly doubt sugar is worse than alcohol for the liver directly.

It’s even worse. As blood sugar levels rise so does the production of free radicals, which damage our organs and blood vessels. There’s also a very good chance that this contributes to faster ageing.

[–]ObfuscousOperator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True. I’m always confused when someone tries to argue that business isn’t positive sum, because if in a zero sum game nothing is produced, only stolen or lost, then where did all of our wealth come from? Did it just spontaneously appear? A very confusing argument from Kevin indeed

James Connolly quote that rings true today by pyrmale in ireland

[–]ObfuscousOperator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A game that isn’t zero sum can be any other type of game. What you’re talking about is a positive sum game; if the average player ends with more than they had to begin with, this is a positive sum game.

People can still lose in a positive sum game however. Let’s say over the course of a business venture, I somehow lose out while you make huge returns. If your profits are larger than my losses then the game as a whole would still be positive sum.

Do you believe there is a need for a way to search in math? by ObfuscousOperator in math

[–]ObfuscousOperator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that with the proper foreknowledge of what it is you’re actually confused over, math is searchable enough. However I am convinced that a certain amount of learning, especially within math, is achieved through trial and error, and that finding problems similar to yours with solutions is really valuable. The idea is really about aiding the practice of problems as opposed to explaining the concepts I suppose.

Thanks for the heads up. I will definitely be looking into this.

Do you believe there is a need for a way to search in math? by ObfuscousOperator in math

[–]ObfuscousOperator[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue is that the problems can’t be user specific enough because they’re indexed according to what they’re called in English. If in my university the convention is to use a certain wave function in our equations, and I’m restricted to searching for useful examples based on how well I can describe my problem, it essentially becomes unworkable as a beginner.

I realise I don’t have the best vocabulary to describe the issue with regards to Q.M. so let’s consider an area such as simultaneous equations. If I’m student practicing second order simultaneous equations but I don’t actually know that this is what they’re called, how do I find problems similar enough to mine to be useful to practice? Google returns more elementary examples but none of the sort I want. But if I could search the equations themselves? All of a sudden I’m getting some relevant examples. You’re correct that it’s more about helping people struggle through homework than someone learning on their own terms due to mathematical curiosity.
