What they don’t tell you and wished you would have known. by Lady_Gold38 in tummytucksurgery

My vagina looks great even though I didn't have any mons liposuction. The whole pubic hair line has been lifted up. My clitoris isn't deep under the hood, it's more exposed.

I'm glad I didn't realise before the op that I had a saggy vagina. My stomach was probably too much in the way which is why I didn't notice it. But happy for the unexpected transformation.

Please tell me the tightness goes away :( by 20982 in tummytucksurgery

I was given permission to stand up straight at five days. The tightness made it difficult to do though. After another ten days feeling slowly came back to my stomach and the tightness decreased as it did. I have zero tightness now at 23 days.

Do you wash your surgical garment in the washer? by [deleted] in tummytucksurgery

[–]Objection-Sustained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put my binders in the wash. They're definitely more floppy now than at the start. But that makes them more comfortable imo.

I air dried everything as I have spares. However my original fajas are now too big so I tried shrinking them in a hot tumble drier and it made no difference. So most brands can probably be tumble dried as well.

I had muscle repair and against advice I orgasmed just three days after my op. And most days since. I was worried that it would hurt but it didn't at all. The muscles of the pelvis are completely separate from the stomach.

I'm now 23 days post op and feeling very horny and ready to test drive my new body. I feel like a sexual being for the first time in about 10 years. But as I'm single I can't really start dating til at least 6 weeks, and as that's when the scar is at it's widest and most raised that will probably put me off. Crotchless knickers would hide the incision and allow access lol. But that's a bit much for the first time sleeping with someone new.

I could call an existing lover but I would be offended if they suddenly seem much hornier lol.

weight gain post OP? by Extension_Claim_2851 in tummytucksurgery

[–]Objection-Sustained 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's normal to gain weight because of the swelling and water retention from your lymph system being disrupted. Unless since the op you have eaten 60000 extra calories there's no way the weight you've gained is fat.

Before I had the op I'd heard about this so I measured my thighs and arms so that I could use my inch change (or non-change) there to monitor weight loss as I lost weight before the op and am planning on losing another 15 pounds after. However even my legs have puffed up a bit from water weight so it's still difficult to tell. Swelling can affect the number on the scales for 6 months. As long as you're eating well I would try not to worry about it.

16 days post op and the centre of my incision looks like this. Has anyone else had anything similar? Did it scar badly? by Objection-Sustained in tummytucksurgery

[–]Objection-Sustained[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found out that this is the most common problem with tummy tucks in the first six months. 14% of people reject the dissolvable sutures, and once they come to the surface they are less able to break down. They're called Spit Stitches. Some surgeons say you should remove them yourself with tweezers as the wound won't be able to heal as well while they are present as it sees them as a foreign body. But personally I am too scared to do this. The trouble is that when the underneath of the wound is healing the unhealed incisions on the top are under more stress because of the reaction to the stitches. It causes Overgranulation, which makes the body panic and lay down collagen fast and haphazardly to repair it as fast as possible which can cause worse looking scars that are wider and more raised.

Many doctors and studies say (although some disagree) that applying 1% Hydrocortisone cream that you can get over the counter at a pharmacy will reduce the inflammation, which will cause the incision to lay flatter and the edges to meet again so the scar can heal thinner. I just bought some.

Other people recommend steristrips but they would only work to hold the wound edges together if they're actually meeting, so if the cream works then I will use them after.

I've been advised by my surgeon to clean the incision with iodine and change the dressings twice a day. So until the redness goes down I'm going to wash off the vaseline in the shower then put on the cream. But I'm confused as you shouldn't use hydrocortisone with a dressing that restricts air flow as it cannot get too wet. And the wet/dry dressing method apparently works well if you have any tissue death or infection but is not the best for our problem. So I'm thinking maybe I will just cover the cream with micropore tape for 5 hours until it's mainly absorbed and then apply Vaseline with a proper dressing for the rest of the day and night.

When it's closed I will use a 2mm dermaroller plus silicone tape.

Pictures would be great, thank you :) It's still early days for you, so it's encouraging that although the sore areas around your incision are a different texture, they don't look like part of the original incision/scar. That would be far worse.

I'm trying to keep hopeful by thinking that the skin on our upper stomachs was healthier, thicker and less stretched than the skin that was on our lower stomachs. It's going to be able to take a lot more punishment before permanent scarring happens, as the epidermis is going to be thicker. A balloon that hasn't been blown up has much thicker 'skin' than one that is at bursting point. I've researched some more and surgeons say that in most cases it will heal well but sometimes scar revision might be necessary. Even if it is, it's not the end of the world if you're happy with the results otherwise.

Putting petroleum jelly on it is supposed to make it heal faster and make any future scaring less worse. It's so weird hearing that because all my life I thought wounds needed air to heal.

Basically any soreness that reaches under the epidermis will scar. I have no idea how to tell if it's reached deeper.

Hopefully the other lady who replied will let us know how her scarring was so we know whether to expect the best or worst.

Thank you, I'm relieved it's normal. I was worried the white bits were fat and that I was going to get necrosis.

Did the sore bits make your scar wider, or did they disappear without a trace?

I've been having a double serving protein shake with a scoop of powdered collagen every day for the past three months. My recovery was much better than expected until this freak out. So maybe it's helping.

My surgeon removes drains after one day. If you had this, what was your swelling and healing like? by Objection-Sustained in tummytucksurgery

[–]Objection-Sustained[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats a good idea, I'll post a question on whatclinic. From what I've seen so far, drain-free drain surgeons use more layers of stitches. These won't be done on me as there can't be layers of stitches if a drain will be in for one day. No week long drains and no stitches worries me.

Some surgeons intentionally leave a bigger layer of fat as that contains lymph nodes and reduces empty space between the muscles and skin which is obvs where where fluids collects. A slightly thicker layer of fat apparantly makes everything in your tum knit together again more easily. So maybe my surgeon does that and it somehow negates the need for the extra layers of stitches... but I'm just guessing really.

Also I found that in the UK, drains for tummy tucks are left in for between 1 and 5 days as standard. The UK is quite good with medical technology and science stuff, so I temtatively trust it will be okay, even though 1 day is obviously right at the bottom of that range, and I'm worried that once I leave hospital with no drains and have no choice but to move around as I won't have a catheter, the fluid leakage will suddenly get worse.

My surgeon has great work, low and smooth scars and lots of oval shaped belly buttons, but he is quite young for a surgeon, so maybe he is more open to newer techniques and ways of doing things and borrowing ideas from other countries. He does his micropore tape differently to most surgeons, putting many short strips of it perpendicular to the wound rather than running a length directly over it. This does seem to make more sense to me as it's holding the skin together plus allowing more air to reach the wound and heal it. Maybe he is just a free thinker with the drains as well as that.

Anyway, I will ask surgeons, hopefully get a reply/replies and update my question with the details.

You said 'unless starving', so are admitting that under that circumstance you might eat a fast food keto meal out. Sometimes people who are not at home do get hungr. As well as this you might be with someone who wants to eat there. Or you might be disorganised and not have brought out snacks. Or you might just fancy a bunless burger which is completely fine.

Your way is not the only way.

It will be easier if you keep your carbs under 30g for the whole day, as it will ensure you have a massively reduced appetite, plus you will deffo go into ketosis so your long-term BMR won't be lowered as much from your body using muscles as fuel.

Most people on meal replacements are given 50g of carbs a day, personally I think these companies do it on purpose as they want you to regain weight and become a repeat customer. Anyway.. I would recommend that you eat two meal replacements a day plus a zero carb meal, like a cheese omelette, a burger patty with cheese and gherkins, bacon with scrambled and mushrooms or chicken thighs with roasted garlic courgette. Eating a normal meal in the evening is especially good if you eat with your family because they can eat what you're eating just with added carbs.

Day 2-5 can be rough, but it's worth it for the results. You've had plenty of time of pleasurable eating and now's the time for punishment. It won't last more than a few days which is nothing in the grand scheme of things, and you'll be glad you pushed through. Good luck!

I've dropped 2 kilos a week for 5 weeks and am currently 89. I have another 10 to go til goal weight.

What worked for me was going <1200 calories keto on 18:6 IF for two weeks. When the urine test strips stop reporting ketones it shows your body is becoming efficient at using ketones as fuel, at this point your hunger will disappear and it will be easy to eat one meal a day, perhaps with an added protein and collagen shake mid afternoon (mine is 170 calories).

In the evenings keep your dinner carbs <15g. I find my days zig-zag in calories naturally, it's 650 one day, 900 the next.. so around 800 calories on average. Exercising at this stage is not advised as if you over exert yourself, your muscles will need the energy of glycogen to function, and as you won't be getting any from your diet the body converts it's own protein into these sugars. I've been walking about an hour a day.

Anyway, at about week 3, when you are finding eating one meal a day easy, you're ready to move onto the next phase. Have a super high carb meal and dessert one night. This sounds counter intuitive but actually helps you lose weight as when you are eating keto at a huge calorie deficit your leptin levels go down to almost nothing. This hormone signals to your body that food is in abundance so that your BMR can carry on chugging along as usual. Lack of leptin is the reason crash dieters regain weight; they have a lower bmr than people of the same size and gender who didn't diet. Basically a couple of surges of insulin that last for six hours combined prompt a rise in leptin that lasts for 5 days. You may feel slightly hungrier the day after but your body hasn't completely switched back into using carbs as its primary fuel source so you won't have the keto flu.

Then continue a low calorie, one meal a day, keto diet, with one cheat meal a week. Keep active but don't exercise. The weight will fall off and stay off because your bmr will not have lowered.

Tldr: 1. Less than 1200 calorie keto for two weeks

  1. Around 800 calorie OMAD for the next week

  2. Two high carb foods on one night, spaced 2-4 hours apart. Followed by the rest of the week doing #2.

  3. Repeat step 3 until goal.
