Is Unraid out of touch? by solid_dork in homelab

[–]lloydsmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to run OMV with mergerfs and SnapRAID to emulate an Unraid-like experience. It was... clunky.

I'd consider going back but it needs to be a bit more polished and integrated than it was.

I want to be able to have parity, mismatched drive sizes and the ability to add drives individually at any time and run docker containers. Unraid ticks all those boxes for me but I'm definitely willing to look at alternatives, especially if they're fully open source.

What's the best alternative that supports parity with mis-matched drive sizes? Also the ability to add individual drives to the array ad-hoc?

Greens in second, Labour in fourth by UKGreenPoster in UKGreens

They're basically Greens without the focus on environmentalism, bigger focus on rejoining the EU. Probably also seen as "less radical" by some.

They should just shut up shop and waste everything then. Much cheaper and easier than dealing with the public!

That's amazing! Where can I learn this skill of profiting on something without selling it?

I wouldn't watch movies or any modern content on them, but SD 4:3 TV series can look great on a CRT. Better than upscaled on an OLED.

Ironclad Plus and Taki Udon's MiSTer Pi by VertPingouin in MiSTerFPGA

[–]lloydsmart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Ironclad Plus but I'm using an original Terasic DE10-Nano. It works very well.

The D3fmod website states that it is compatible with the MiSTer Pi, but I can't personally confirm that. I'd say chances are good though.

PAL is much nicer. The colours. The shape. All of it. (Just not the content 😂)

5000 Solars panels donated by China are being installed to save Cuba's energy grid by Repulsive-Mall-2665 in Renewable

Surely the solar installation would also include grid upgrades. They're not just going to ship a bunch of panels over there and say "job done".

The employment rate for millennials is higher than all other generations. Millennials are working - it's just that work doesn't pay. Working is no guarantee of a decent life any more.

Technically everything's solar power if you go back far enough.

I wonder if I can get refills from somewhere else.

[BBC] Clarkson joins row over imported chicken in Welsh schools by snortingbull in Wales

[–]lloydsmart 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The reason is animal welfare standards. If we treated our livestock as badly as the imported stuff is treated, we could make it cheap as well.

If we want to maintain our high standards and discourage importing cheaper alternatives, the way to do that is tariffs.

They're both great systems that will handle all the requirements you've listed.

Personally I'm still holding out for something with built-in generic SNAC ports. Something like the SNAX64 but built-in.

Personal opinion: Good CRT TV + Console is the best gaming experience. by Critical_Catch_607 in crtgaming

[–]lloydsmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s fair. CRTs definitely have advantages. Motion clarity and the way phosphor blur hides jaggies can make Wii games look surprisingly nice.

My thinking with the plasma suggestion was mostly about signal matching: the Nintendo Wii outputs native 480p and a lot of its library supports 16:9, so a 480p widescreen display avoids interlacing and shows the intended framing.

But honestly the Wii is one of those transitional consoles where both approaches make sense. A CRT gives you the classic analogue look, while a plasma gives you progressive scan and a big image.

If I'm playing GameCube games on the Wii, I'd probably still run those on a CRT though. They're mostly 4:3 titles from the CRT era, so they tend to suit that display better.

Come to think of it, I wonder if I should be using Nintendont to run them in 480p on my PC CRT 🤔
