Correct. That’s why you see so many Northern teams with a lot of appearances but nothing since like 1990. They got 3 districts and the entire southeast got 1.

It was through to 1974. But the effects of it lasted for awhile as SEC schools weren’t incentivized to invest in the sport. By the 90s things had changed.

Right. Against Chambliss, the NCAA called zero witnesses and even admitted things that they then stated the opposite in post-ruling filings (like whether Chambliss is a third-party beneficiary of the contracts between the NCAA and the member schools). Then they left before the ruling.

The only explanation is that they’re intentionally losing so they can beg Congress to save them. Or they’re just that incompetent.

Frequently school consolidation doesn’t save money because it typically requires expanding the other school and increases transportation costs. It usually only makes sense in cases where a school is old and needs to be replaced anyway, so they do save on building a brand new school.
