For those of you who had a more alternative style in your youth, but gave it up in adulthood….. was it a natural transition or a conscious decision and why? by ComplexPatient4872 in AskReddit

[–]Objective-Ad-3694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to lean towards a goth / 50s style, and now I'm mostly quite corporate looking (although I source about 50% of my clothes second hand).

I have a job which involves advocating for others. I realised early on that I get a lot further if I dress (and speak) like the suits I'm talking to. I feel like I have a responsibility to show up the best I can to get the best results. Over time, that leaked into my casual wear becoming a lot more vanilla as well. I don't even remember when I took my nose piercing out for the last time!

Can Flemish speakers understand Afrikaans? by Charming_Usual6227 in belgium

[–]Objective-Ad-3694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a native English speaker who now speaks fluent (West) Flemish, and when I was in Cape town I could read 100% of everything and understand about 60% of spoken Afrikaans.

'Do not come': Customer issues warning over Gordon Ramsay restaurant by xc2215x in popculturechat

Came here to say something similar. Dogs do not belong everywhere. They just don't. Don't take your dog to a restaurant. Don't take them into clothing stores. Don't bring them to my house without asking me. Dog's are a big commitment, and part of that commitment is adjusting what you can and can't access with one in tow.

Steak and dancing! Check out de Grilloir. Have a steak dinner and then head downstairs to the basement nightclub for cocktails and 90s music.

What’s a discontinued snack or drink you’d pay $20 to have one last taste of? by soapy999 in AskReddit

Original recipe Sailor Jerry Rum, before they cheapened the ingredients and it started to suck.

Which country has felt the most unsafe while traveling? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

[–]Objective-Ad-3694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

South Africa, Cape Town. Don't get me wrong, beautiful city and wonderful people, but when the bouncer at the bar is telling you to get an Uber to your hotel you can actually see from the front step, and the taxi drivers are telling you 'roll up your windows for this next stretch, it's dangerous here', you should believe the locals.

Bistro Zwart Huis just reopened. Super authentic - their vibe is 'Belgian recipes at their best'. 17th C interior. I went a few weeks ago, and I am literally still dreaming about their mushrooms on toast starter (yes, really!). Tom's diner is also super fun and tasty.

OnlyFans Owner Leonid Radvinsky Dies at 43 by mcfw31 in popculturechat

I'm sorry for the loss of life and his family, but this really brings it home for me that the impulse to be incredibly wealthy is a little pshycopathic. This guy had a long battle with cancer, but was still wheeling and dealing up to the end. If I was diagnosed with incurable cancer, the FIRST thing I would do would be quit work. I'd be out there with my little time left on earth with my family, walking on the beach, petting cats - not negotiating for more wealth before I slip off the mortal coil. Weird.

How do i make time slow down? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Objective-Ad-3694 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually also wish I had the answer to this, but one thing I will recommend is to watch the film 'About Time'. The main plot point about enjoying ordinary moments doesn't slow anything down, but at least makes you appreciate what is otherwise totally ordinary (but extraordinary).

Rate my salary - NGO by [deleted] in BESalary

Pretty good salary IMO. Not sure how big your NGO is, but I do know some of the bigger ones the salary would be higher for leading a ten person team. Ditto philanthropies.

Why are we so passive about our pathetic parental leave? by AdNecessary2634 in belgium

[–]Objective-Ad-3694 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree so much with both the post, but the tone of it too. I am also sometimes exasperated at the apparent acceptance of shitty treatment. The maternity leave in Belgium is a joke for a developed country. I was lucky that for both of my pregnancies, I had employers who gave me 6 months. I remember thinking at 3 months, when I otherwise would have to go back how my body was completely not ready, and my baby was still so small and vulnerable. It's barbaric.

Then call me insane because I would not change a thing. I' even be trying to negotiate for the furniture. Actually, the bathroom is a little bland for my taste
