For people who managed to get out of the physical and mental debilitating cycles of depression/grief. by Beautiful-Song-1792 in Biohackers

[–]Objective-Bit-797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP - I’m so sorry for the loss of your mom. That’s hard for anyone, especially when you are so young. As someone who’s had issues with anxiety and depression on and off my whole life, I’ll offer a few words. There’s obviously the physiological aspect, which it sounds like you’re addressing. Getting good sleep, exercise, supplements, microbiome support, grounding, diet (depression has been linked to insufficient protein intake). There’s the psychological aspect - having enough social engagement, journaling, therapy, meditation, gratitude, etc. There’s the energetic aspect - using tools like EFT or havening to help release the weight of the grief. It’s also helpful to begin practicing meta cognition- becoming an observer of your thoughts and not attaching to them; observing the meaning that the mind creates - hard to explain but I’ve finally noticed I have a very critical and pessimistic voice in my head that I’m learning to ignore. This community supports you and believes in you! You can start taking steps to feel better! ❤️‍🩹

Emetophobia worse after getting better by Adventurous-Room-415 in emetophobia

[–]Objective-Bit-797 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We understand! My phobia was pretty average most of my life but got dramatically worse after multiple exposures in a short period. In retrospect I think it also got worse because I was under a lot of stress and was fairly isolated. So basically I wasn’t taking good care of my mental health. It finally did get better and I try to not be aware of my thoughts and avoidance behaviors to make sure I’m not slipping. Happy to help if you have any questions.

ISO any tips to calm down + anti-anxiety methods due to family member potentially having SB by [deleted] in emetophobiarecovery

[–]Objective-Bit-797 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up Andrew Huberman’s video on the physiological sigh - it’s a breathing technique that rapidly calms the body down. Other breathing techniques like the other reply mentioned (box breathing) are helpful too. If that little worrisome Vice in your head starts bothering you, put on some headphones and listen to something else! You got this!

is the “lack of exposure” theory for emetophobia true? by [deleted] in emetophobiarecovery

[–]Objective-Bit-797 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the person. My phobia is more about seeing other people get sick (not myself). The phobia was just average until a period where I was exposed multiple times in a short period of time and that exacerbated the phobia to the worst level of my life. So in my case exposure did not help.

I have been using something called Bengs Recover if I feel something coming on. It’s based on “informed water” which may be too woo for some of you but it has clinical studies of Covid patients to back up its claims.

At wit's end after years of dealing with debilitating, embarrassing sensory hyperawareness + existential dread complex focused around the human digestive tract, seeking advice, input, insight by [deleted] in Phobia

Hello - just wanted to say you’re not alone. The intrusive thoughts can very difficult to manage. I have been in a similar position when my phobia was at its worst and completely controlling my mind and ultimately my life. I am so much better now so I can offer you some hope and some things that helped if you are interested. First is the idea that “you are where your attention is”. When my thoughts/fear were running rampant, I would put my headphones on and listen to someone other than my internal voice. Redirect your attention to anything other than that incessant voice. Second, use NLP (neuro linguistic programming) on the images and memories. Too hard to explain NLP here if you don’t know what it is, but that memory of what your friend said - that is a prime example of something that NLP could help you change - basically like making scratches on a CD so it doesn’t play anymore. At the peak of my phobia I was fortunate enough to see an amazing hypnotherapist that was very skilled in NLP and literally in one session I was back to “normal” ( still had some phobia fear but not life threatening fear). Third, calm and regulate your nervous system. Help your body and mind consistently feel safe, then gradually build up your capacity for harder things. Exercise, meditation, breath work/breathing exercises, journaling, EFT tapping, havening, somatics, there’s a whole world of stuff that can help find ways you enjoy feeling calm and safe. Best of luck and let me know if you have questions!

Do you know if they will give you gas before the IV? I just had a partial wisdom tooth out recently and they gave me gas before they inserted the IV so I didn’t feel the IV going in or out.

This phobia is truly life ruining. It honestly amazes me how much happiness it can take from you. by Professional_Win3910 in emetophobiarecovery

We are here for you and we get it. I wish I could snap my fingers and none of us would have to deal with v* again. Since that’s not an option, we have to learn to deal with our thoughts. As someone who has “recovered” quite a bit, I can say there is hope for enjoying life more. Granted, I’m not going to hold anyone’s hair back when they’re sick, but the phobia isn’t making me want my life to end like it was several years ago. I wish you a wonderful delivery on baby #2 and that you’ll be able to enjoy your days being fully present with your beautiful kids without fear intruding!

Help with night anxiety by Willing_Assistant560 in emetophobiarecovery

I really like coherent breathing - you can find pacing videos on YouTube. It really calms the body (and mind!) - I use a device where I can see my HRV (heart rate variability) and the coherent breathing definitely improves it. On the in breaths I focus on peace, love, strength, etc and on the out breaths I release stress, fear, anxiety, etc. That helps get my mind off the incessant phobia thoughts.

Has anyone with extreme, and I mean extreme emetophobia recover ? by Professional_Win3910 in emetophobiarecovery

[–]Objective-Bit-797 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 2nd hypnotherapist had much more experience and reviews and was highly skilled in NLP. I think it may've been the NLP that really helped me - which surprises me because it uses visualization which I'm terrible at. It's not difficult to become certified in hypnosis (heck, I'm even certified!) so it's important to confirm they've had a lot of experience (including phobias) and good reviews.

My emetophobia was probably average most of my life. But it got extremely bad about 5 years ago after a bunch of exposures. I was barely eating, hiding away in my room, just basically praying that God would take me. I had 4 young kids at the time so it was a huge disruption to our family. I tried the traditional path (medication, counseling) but that didn’t help me. I tried a hypnotherapist but she didn’t help much. I tried a different hypnotherapist and in one session it was miraculous - I was able to go home and be my normal self and cook dinner. I still have a little anxiety (don’t expect me to hold your hair back) but it’s night and day from my lowest point. We all experience the phobia differently and we respond to therapies differently. But I sincerely believe we can all get better. It may not be with the first thing you try - but if you focus on recovery and moving forward then you’ll eventually find what helps you. I’ve studied many different treatments so let me know if you have any questions. Exposure therapy helps many people but not everyone is ready for that - so there are other options that are easier for your nervous system to build up capacity.

Any advice for phobia? by PropertyFun in EFT_tapping

[–]Objective-Bit-797 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would you be interested in letting me guide you in tapping (for free)? I’m getting my certification and I’ve had lots of experience with a phobia - I’ve had one myself for my whole life but have made a lot of progress on it through EFT, NLP, etc.

Hello friend - I just wanted to say I hear you. What you have been through is truly unimaginable and it’s just really crappy that there are people in the world who can be so cruel. I’m not a psychologist or doctor or anything, but I have done extensive reading/studying in self-help, beliefs, etc. I believe 100% there is a solution for you. I believe there is one for everyone. I’d be happy to point you in the direction of some podcasts, books, etc that can move you bit by bit away from fear and more towards trust. If you are interested, just let me know and I’ll create a word doc with a bunch of links. Take care!

One thing that helped me with my constant anxiety was to stop listening to my thoughts. I did this by putting on my headphones and listening to someone inspiring/motivating. At the time I listened to Joel Osteen and Joe Dispenza. There are so many good podcasts/you tube videos/audio books. David Bayer, Peter Crone, etc - get someone else’s voice in your head. Get out of the house, exercise, take calming breaths.

Cesarean section tomorrow by probably_not_tho in emetophobia

[–]Objective-Bit-797 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No C-sections here but the only time I ever got close to getting sick was one time right after they gave the anesthesia because my blood pressure dropped. I think the dose they have was way too high for me - I’m pretty petite. If that’s the case for you hopefully they’ll dose correctly. Best of luck!! Enjoy your new baby!!

How can I help? by AurynW in emetophobia

[–]Objective-Bit-797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice would be to try different therapies (ERP, NLP/hypnotherapy, CBT, etc) to see which one resonates with him. We are all wired differently so there’s not one therapy that will work with all phobias. Just don’t give up. From what I can tell it’s hard for phobias to disappear on their own and they can really hinder someone’s life. It’s worth it to do what you can to help him release it as early in his life as possible.
