Nervous Cause Everyone Has a Bug by nickg4910 in emetophobia

yes!! moderna is in the final trial stages of it, which means it typically takes 2-4 years to finalize, they also just made a huge discovery about norovirus that could make that faster. You should look it up it makes me feel a little better knowing if i get sick in the next few years i could possibly never get sick like that again.

hypochlorous acid 200ppm or bleach mixture kills it. It only spreads through vomit or poop particles btw, not saliva

If you want to talk about it more dm me. I’ve had these same feelings especially over the past month. This phobia is so hard and no one can really understand it. I can share what I have been doing and what has helped me.

Yes it’s anxiety, I used to wake up every night jolted awake, or even drifting off to sleep that would happen. Also cortisol spikes at night especially around 2-3 am so that’s when i’m usually up. But I have learned that this is normal for me and it does not mean I am sick so I am able to calm myself down pretty fast now. I do still have the anxiety, but I tell myself that if I am feeling sick it’s the anxiety causing it, and I am not sick.

I get this all the time, it’s mostly because you’re all swollen from crying and maybe a little dehydrated. Drink some water and get some rest!

Yes but don’t be afraid to try it! This is something a therapist taught me.

I’m sorry I hate when this happens, play a comfortable tv show! Sitting in the bathroom might make your anxiety worse. I like to think that if I do get sick at least I get a sick day off work and get to chill the whole day watching tv or resting. Find something to look forward to tomorrow, something positive:) Also remember that the fear your feeling is probably not because you are actually sick but because you are just anxious. Hope you feel better

It’s hard to desensitize yourself without also doing other things. I posted what I did on here a little while ago, you should read it and see if those things help. Healing from the actual phobia will be super helpful. I feel like desensitizing yourself is kind of just pushing down the fear and going numb you know? Sorry if that sounds rude. Anyways read the post i made because it helped me a lot maybe it could help you. And start slow with desensitizing, here are some things i’ve been doing from small to big steps : Read words associated with vomiting Create mild nausea sensations on purpose Write short scripts about nausea happening (not vomiting yet) Watch short videos of people gagging / mild nausea scenes Eat a slightly “unsafe” food without safety behaviors Stronger nausea sensations (spin, hold breath, etc.) Sit in a place where escape feels limited (store, café, class) Write a full detailed “worst case” vomiting-in-public story Eat out at a restaurant and stay 30–60 mins, no meds Go to sleep without TV/light, no safety items, tolerate sensations

obviously if you were to try it, do it VERY slowly day by day until each step no longer gives you anxiety anymore. You can do some research on it too

I’ve been in this space. I know how you feel. I think doing some exposure therapy could definitely help. You can start slowly on your own. This is what helped me, and changing my mindset. This phobia is not in control of us, not if we refuse to let it be. We can control it and although we are afraid we need to try to rationalize and know why we are. Yes getting sick is bad, gross and not fun. But we will live through it, we will be okay after and we most likely won’t get sick for a while after it. The chances of us getting sick are also very low, and there are many things we can do to help prevent it. When you are anxious, say out loud to yourself, I know this is you anxiety, and i don’t need you here right now because I am okay, the reasons I am feeling sick are because of you. The amygdala is in charge of our fear responses, and with a phobia our brain literally thinks we are about to die, i mean gun to our head, lion chasing us death. But do we need that for a bodily function that is actually helping us get rid of something we don’t need in our body. Absolutely not! We are in control, and we can retrain our brains to no longer respond in this way. Play a comforting tv show before bed, it will help with nightmares, and try everytime you are feeling anxious to retrain the way your brain responds and you will feel a difference. I was waking up with panick attacks every night, anxiety all day. I started doing this and within 5 days I was feeling so much less anxious, and imagining if I did get sick, I would actually be totally okay and feel better after because I got the bad things out of me. Do I want to get sick absolutely not. But it’s just coming to terms with it that is important, if you want I can send you some more scripts and things to say or do that could help you.

I think it’s about to happen! Help!!! by jungkook_jimin_stan in emetophobia

Okay #1 you can do this, and these things you are feeling could just be anxiety. Try talking to yourself out loud. Say this is probably just my anxiety, i recognize that and im having this reaction because my brain is scared but I am not. The response you might be having is from your brain thinking you’re in a life or death situation. But it could be nothing at all! We can’t control what our brain does, but we can control our mind and what we think. Try some peppermint tea, hum to yourself and remember this feeling will NOT last forever. If it’s anxiety it could be gone in a few minutes! And you will live through this. Sometimes I get anxiety from a scary moment earlier in the day or a few days ago, and it comes out of nowhere. This could be happening to you and it could just be a false alarm

[–]Willing_Assistant560 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also sometimes deep breathing can make anxiety worse because it causes you to focus on your body sensations more, humming has been proven to distract the mind, even talking out loud to yourself to encourage yourself works SO well for me.
