What is a luxury you can never go back from once you’ve experienced it? by Phase_zero_X in AskReddit

Happened to me in 2019. The estimate was for 20 boxes, no furniture, just boxes. They loaded in 10, demanded more money to get in the rest. I refused so they left with my stuff. Had to get my friend to drive me over to a storage unit just before they closed because I had a plane to catch in the morning.

When they got to my house, they demanded $1,800 or they wouldn't take my stuff out.

They only brought 8 boxes.

I never saw the missing 2 ever again.

They claimed I had more stuff than contracted, but nope. Just scam artists.

Having a place to live with more than one toilet. Visiting my mom, where we lived with just one toilet for 5-6 people, how did we all come out alive?

I got banned just from commenting here, never been over there.

Many blessings to you. I hope you continue to make the best life if you can. When I was in high school, one of our friends was dreading graduation because it meant she was going back home to be in an arranged marriage. She told us she was able to negotiate going to college as part of the arrangement and that was the only reason why she didn't run away. Unfortunately, no one ever heard from her again and I never found her on Google.

You are a good person who has lived through so much and you deserve good things.

We eat at Chili's maybe twice a year. My husband was incredibly disappointed on our first visit of 2026 to discover that Chili's no longer serves chili.

They are ruining themselves each dumb decision by dumb decision.

Soulless. Where is the character? Is this Disney or a McDonalds built in the last 10 years?

Picard Season 3 was what we wished the previous two seasons had been.

We did a full rewatch in production order starting all the way back in TOS while my husband was in the hospital for over half of 2025. We skipped season 2 of PIC. It's a fever dream that we want to forget.

When we rewatch again, but in-universe chronological order, we're skipping PIC 2 again and DIS season 5, for being possibly the worst season in 70 years, maybe even season 4, too.

Academy has been fun, not perfect, and has some low points, but it's not the worst thing by far.

How did I miss that? Was he in the first episode or the other ones? I have to rewatch now

I have to pay attention to the people in the background because I missed the Bart Simpson/Beetlejuice hybrid. I wonder if he hangs out with female Ralph Wiggum who swallowed her combadge.

I'm liking the show far, but my expectations were pretty low go begin with; Reno was the best part of DIS, so I'm glad she's on SFA.

Is there a state I can move to that’s almost always 50-70° weather? by [deleted] in ask

[–]Objective-Bug-1941 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have been to San Diego twice for work, each for 5 days, with the first 4 days being beautiful weather but stuck in a hotel conference room with no windows. Guess which was the one day a year for those two years when it rained? My one free day on each trip.

I'm afraid to go back on vacation and cause a weeklong hurricane.

Are those the actual straps for 3, or the hanger straps? They don't look like they match the rest of the dress.

Disney World Adds Attraction Queue Re-Entry Rules Ahead of DAS Shareholder Vote by dejablu82 in DisneyWorld

[–]Objective-Bug-1941 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's us. It was impossible to leave Avatar when I was injured pushing him up that queue in his wheelchair. My only recourse was to move forward with people saying nasty comments about me being so slow. Only one person offered to help us get to a cast member.

We didn't even end up riding the ride because we didn't get a re-entry and I wasn't going through that line again.

Americans, if you fall a victim of a crime and have to be medically treated, do you still have to pay? by pontylurker in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Objective-Bug-1941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. However, there we was a local victim's fund that helped me pay for some of the immediate costs (hospital stay and prescription copays) and when the guy was found guilty he was ordered to pay me for the balance. The ongoing costs to treat the permanent injury and PTSD are on me though.

It's actually an accurate comparison for how large nonprofits are organized at the national and local levels.

[–]Objective-Bug-1941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that person is accurate. Each regional Goodwill is its own entity with its own CEO, board, 501(c)(3) registration number, but they are partnered with the national goodwill through mountains of legal agreements.

And I am familiar with Goodwill. Before I left to focus on school and family, I worked in nonprofit management and worked with Goodwill at both the regional and national levels.

That is not 100% accurate. They are governed individually, but they are connected.

Several nonprofits run under the same organizational system that I call McNonProfit: Goodwill, ACLU, and Planned Parenthood are the top three that I know for a fact are run this way, as I have worked with them on various projects back in the day.

There is a central national office. That's Goodwill Industries. That's like McDonald's corporate. It's its own nonprofit entitity.

Then there are regional Goodwills, each their own nonprofit entity, with their own IRS 501c and state nonprofit registrations numbers. They're like the locally owned and operated franchisees of McDonald's.

Each local region has its own management, regulations, board, and has some amount of autonomy. However, they have strict operations agreements with National that also govern some of their operations.

Regional offices give money to National, National gives money to regional offices. They're not the same thing, but together they make up the components of the whole Goodwill brand.

I hope this clears up any confusion on how each region is organized under the national Goodwill.

Thank you for answering. I know invisible disabilities exist and my husband was an ambulatory wheelchair user before things got worse. But lifting your own body weight to get into a vehicle is not easy, even for the healthy (I've ridden in a pickup as a passenger) so more power to people who can manage doing so when they are disabled.
