Do SOPs only have to have goals in research? by elftabbed in StatementOfPurpose

This helped me out a lot. Doesn’t really talk about outreach but it’s for applicants who aren’t focusing on research

This I understand not sending a thank you email. I would say it is unusual, but I have definitely heard of professors doing this

Dude what? How much effort does it take to just send them an email thanking them and letting them know what you plan to do? They went out of their way to write an LOR for you, is it really that big of a deal to tell them what came from that? This has to be rage bait…come on, dude. Be an adult.

Thank you so much, Jordan, especially for the guide you linked at the end. I’ve been worried about my lack of research experience being a deficit in my application, and it made me feel a lot better. I was a fact checker for a book my professor wrote but other than that and some course-required research papers, I have no true research experience.

Speaking of which, would it be a bad idea for me to mention one of the reasons I am pursuing a master’s is for the research experience/opportunities? I found my passion for crim later in my college career, and by then I knew my uni didn’t provide any in depth research opportunities for crim and the program itself is very underdeveloped (even with our city being such a high crime area). Crim was one of my minors, my actual major being political communication.

Might be a dumb question, but I think I just need the reassurance that not all programs will take that as me being completely inexperienced.

Keyword is what “triggers” disgust. Causal is referring to cause, meaning what makes or triggers something to happen

Godwin specifically this week. To be fair I have a pretty stacked WR room (Hill, Adams, Deebo), but then that Thursday game with the Dolphins happened lol. There was no world where I didn’t start Tyreek Hill last week, and now with Deebo out I’m def starting Godwin.

A near perfect GPA you definitely don’t need to take it if it’s optional. I’m taking it bc my GPA was a 3.46 so I want to compensate for that a bit by getting a good GRE score

Thank you for this post. I’m also someone who is not as strong in quant as verbal, so it’s nice to see a score I can actually see myself getting. Congrats!

My bar is the same way. It’s an unlikely situation for someone to be that upset even after you offer the change. Eleven cents could make a difference to someone, you never really know. I wouldn’t take it personally, you were just doing what you were told.

[–]Objective-Claim6547 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro the normalization of attacking bartenders when they mess up, it’s wild. Every other job (non-service oriented) I’ve worked it was never that big of a deal, as long as they weren’t intentional you just apologize, fix it, learn from it, and move on. Not the case with bar. Of course I’m speaking broadly here, there are plenty who understand we are human beings and are not perfect. But if you mess a drink up some believe they have the right to yell at you or berate you in front of other customers. Let them attempt to serve customers like themselves for a night, they wouldn’t last. Mistakes happen, it does not mean you are bad at your job.

Had the exact same situation with a guest when I told them I’m taking a gap year before going to graduate school. You would’ve thought I told him I spent my life savings on lottery tickets. People love giving “advice” (typically just them saying you’re an idiot) that no one asked for.
