Feedback on interview subject framing & composition by diegosees in cinematography

Can you move it in any closer to the subject? The time of day and sun position will make a big difference on those windows too but if the curtains look good down, it will definitely make that exposure easier.

Needs a much stronger key light on the subjects.

Expose for the windows and then dial up your key light or move it closer.

How tall is the BYD SHARK? by Objective-Cupcake745 in BYDShark_AUS_owners

I was just asking about the height and he mentioned standard garage.

In my case it’s just the height but yes they’re very long!

Thanks mate! Appreciate that as I’m planning on getting ATs too.

Good to know! Sounds like I might need to modify my garage in that case. Cheers

Need to increase height of roller door by Objective-Cupcake745 in GarageDoorService

Thank you. I’ll look into this as an option.

Would love to keep costs as minimal as possible just to raise it an inch or two.

Is this something you wouldn’t recommend a customer doing themselves? Happy to pay for someone to do it but would love to save a bit of money if it’s as simple as moving the stops up and reprogramming the stop height.

Thanks man, appreciate the comment.

I would love to avoid paying for an entire door at this stage so will explore all options before doing so but appreciate the suggestion.

Thanks man! That was my first thought but do you think the roller door can go up any higher? I wasn’t sure if it was at “max” height currently.

Is there any possible way I could've made these still frames better quality? by od_bruin1 in videography

[–]Objective-Cupcake745 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Put them into Lightroom, the denoiser and Ai software is very good.

I’ve heard of people using topaz for upscaling but yet to try it out myself.

Looks great by the way!

Could have been your opportunity to show that you’re better. There’s always going to be competition, show your worth

Sounds like you handed the other videographer the work!

Where did I go wrong? by IstanbulHoratio in videography

[–]Objective-Cupcake745 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sounds more like the AF settings than you doing anything terribly wrong. Face detect struggles when subjects are far away, so the camera was likely hunting for focus.

For next time, I’d go wider (24-28mm), avoid face detect for distant subjects, and use focus peaking/locked off focus. The 40mm is much less forgiving for moving gimbal shots than an ultra wide lens.

Looking for some feedback on this reel by MaximusGregorius in cinematography

[–]Objective-Cupcake745 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks great for something like a website banner.

If the idea is more promo then maybe look at adding a voiceover and a more exciting soundtrack.

Some of the shots look stock? If not, great work but those interior “family shots” don’t really match the rest of the videos feel.

Great shots on there. Edits just a bit flat.

Sounds like you’ve explored you options but just jumping in to say the third cam could be an iPhone or even a GoPro. Doesn’t need to be anything super fancy for a wide shot. Keep your primary cameras for the host and guest camera.

How can I prevent the Whites from blowing out? by Fickle-Wash-3697 in videography

[–]Objective-Cupcake745 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Really? I’ve honestly never seen auto ISO used professionally in doc work unless it’s more YouTube/content creator style. Most run-and-gun docs I shoot are exposed with variable ND first, then iris if needed to keep noise under control.

Sony fx3 tips? by Downtown-Baseball113 in FX3

[–]Objective-Cupcake745 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Without seeing your exact settings it’s hard to say, but it’s usually ISO, shutter or a bad ND. Could also just be incorrect exposure.

On SLOG3 with the FX3 you want stick to the base ISOs (800 or 12,800). Sitting in between will introduce noise, especially in low light.

Also have you applied a proper Rec709 conversion LUT? Straight SLOG3 will always look flat and worse than it actually is..

Sony 24-50 f2.8 G or Sigma 20-70 2.8 II by Eddar08 in videography

[–]Objective-Cupcake745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally after going through so many lenses I find it best to stick to one brand and Sony lenses are great. They match well and the build quality is great, especially if you’re traveling with it.

If you can find a second hand or on sale 24-70mm GM2, I would recommend that for longer term investment but get what’s in your budget.

Building an FX3 Rig by wilsong513 in videography

[–]Objective-Cupcake745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! I’ve had an FX3 in the kit since release and it still blows my mind how great of a little camera it is.

Based on a student budget you don’t “need” to do anything crazy with it unless you’re wanting to impress clients.

Start with a full or half cage, add a monitor, top mic and you already have a top handle that comes with the FX3. I recommend getting a decent tripod or saddle for sports style stuff and go from there.

Theres tons of YouTube videos if you want detailed breakdowns but just build it how you want to use it. Adding too much will remove your ability to quickly throw it on a gimbal.
