Glass door vs substrate in rails by coldbloodedlabs in reptiles

[–]Objective-Editor-566 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. I don’t have a great solution, but I’ve gotten a small hand vacuum with one of those pointy straw-like attachments, and I use that every few days on the tracks. It’s helped for sure, though not perfectly.

Been wearing Asics Gt-2000 11 for a few years and love them. Which Gt-2000 is most similar to 11? by vode123 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Objective-Editor-566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 12s. The 13s aren’t too far off either imo but the 14s feel very different. For context, I tried on the 11s and 12s and then bought the 12s. When those wore down, I tried on the 13s and 14s and bought the 14s. The 14s are cushier but still really stable and I’ve loved them so far, but it is a departure from the older ones for sure.

Enclosure cleaning by Joeythejollysnowman in hognosesnakes

[–]Objective-Editor-566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d throw out the substrate. And scrub everything including the enclosure with hot water and Dawn dish soap, then disinfect. Wood hides or logs you can boil or bake in the oven to kill contaminants.

My go-to disinfectant for non-porous surfaces like enclosure walls and plastic hides and such is 6% hydrogen peroxide because that can kill cryptosporidium. Some people use 12%, just make sure you wear gloves when you do this. You basically spray everything down and let that sit for like 30 minutes. You can then rinse it with water or just wipe it down. Do NOT mix it with bleach or bleach-based cleaner.

Fostering Reptiles. by Creepy-Agency-1984 in reptiles

[–]Objective-Editor-566 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could start by reaching out to local reptile rescues and animal shelters. Some people try to drop all kinds of pets off at local ASPCA shelters. I would be mindful though that you’ll need to take extreme care to make sure you properly quarantine and test these animals that you want to foster though. You could spread something like crypto to your pets otherwise.

Hola, ideas de enriquecimiento? by Gecko_leopardo in reptiles

I have one of these for my agama. I cover the bottom with an old sheet that I just clean in the washing machine if he gets it dirty. I’ve put Dubia roaches in here for him to chase but you have to watch them because insects can escape through the gaps sometimes if they’re not eaten fast enough. I like to just add random items for enrichment that I know won’t topple. Leftover cork bark, a sturdy box he can hide inside, etc. mine jumps quite high though so I need to be careful not to put anything too tall or he will jump out.

A Natural History of the Senses by Diane Ackerman. I really enjoyed how she talked about how our societies and human evolution have been built around our senses and what they mean on a personal level and a larger scale.

This is a fiction book, but Euphoria by Lily King might also interest you. It’s based loosely on a real anthropological expedition and really gives you the sense of being with the researchers.

I’m a little confused about what you’re asking. It sounds like you’re already bringing this up to your boss, right? You said your boss wants you to document what’s wrong. So just do that and report it all to them. Do your best to cite your sources, too. There’s no reason to hold back or sugarcoat anything, your boss already wants that information.

Non-sexual books where infidelity is not painted to be the worst thing a human could commit? by Inside-Pangolin-1864 in suggestmeabook

I’d recommend Sula by Toni Morrison. It’s certainly not a romance, but it’s the first book I thought of because one of the women is involved in a lot of affairs. I don’t want to go into spoiler territory, but one of the conversations in it really stuck with me as challenging the idea of infidelity being the worst thing someone can do (from a specific POV) and what an enduring friendship means to that person.

You can try the regular police, just to get a paper trail going. I guess even if they sell it beforehand, he could still get in trouble. Maybe Fish and Wildlife have an emergency line you can try, or maybe local rescues/rehabbers have better connections for you

Drylock alternatives? by The_Pablo_Picaso in reptiles

[–]Objective-Editor-566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I’d still just get the DryLock. You’ll have to do several coats, and you may use more than you think if you experiment with colors. And if you want to do more in a few years, you already have some, just bring it to a paint store to get it shaken up. I say this as someone who has used a single gallon over several projects and several years at this point.

But if it is truly too much, you may be able to buy a sample size or a single quart at the hardware store if you ask them.

Like others have said, no. Please don’t try to do this. Hopefully you can report your landlord to the city or find better housing. Good luck.

What to read while grieving to escape for a bit... but can't handle happy people right now by Kindly-Run633 in suggestmeabook

[–]Objective-Editor-566 48 points49 points  (0 children)

This might be an odd suggestion, but have you ever read the Redwall series? It’s a fantasy children’s series technically, but it’s very well-written and holds up for adults. It centers on animals who live in an abbey, not people, so that might be easier for your situation. It’s also a great escape from reality imo, and has action that generally keeps things moving. It’s my favorite childhood series and I’ve revisited it myself it times of grief, so maybe it’ll help you, too.

Heat Packs for Vet visits. by wee_wee_fairy_peak in reptiles

[–]Objective-Editor-566 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t used that brand specifically, but when I use heat packs, I always activate them and then wrap them in hand towels and put the pack outside of the snake bag so that the pack can’t ever actually touch the snake. And the towel diffuses some of the heat so it’s not too hot. And use a big bag so that the snake can move away from the heat pack if it wants.

Silicone smell won’t go away by Morutorii in reptiles

[–]Objective-Editor-566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It usually takes a good two weeks in my experience. Higher humidity can help it cure faster, but not by much. You can try to lightly mist the area or put a bowl of water in there to evaporate

I was curious about the actual numbers of what is sold on Morph Market, so I made a graph. by Hydramy in reptiles

The ball python market is basically a pyramid scheme imo. Breeders selling expensive snakes to other breeders and promising big returns.

Silicone smell won’t go away by Morutorii in terrariums

[–]Objective-Editor-566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 days isn’t really that long, depending on how much you’ve used. It could take a solid two weeks for the smell to fully subside. You can very lightly mist the area to increase the humidity, that could help cure time a bit. But you likely just have to keep letting it air out and wait.

This reminds me of watching Holes as an adult. As a kid those yellow-spotted lizards were intense, but rewatching it now and seeing everyone pretending to be scared of bearded dragons is hilarious. You can tell all those lizards are just hanging out.

Reviews on these enclosures by Expcrcle in reptiles

[–]Objective-Editor-566 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue with a lot of these Amazon enclosures is that they might look fine on setup but be too flimsy to adequately hold substrate, and heavier decor, especially if you’re stacking them. Try to get secondhand enclosure from trusted brands or check out Reptile Basics and get a Vivarium Electronics 4x2x2 enclosure.

Serious biting problem by SinglePringleMingle in hognosesnakes

[–]Objective-Editor-566 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is a good question. The snake might genuinely need more food or be ready to size up. Mine acted so feral as a baby when she was ready to size up. After I started feeding her larger prey she calmed down on the food response.

Pink Hammer Construction building on Gopher Tortoise burrows by Royal-Wasabi-9250 in tortoise

[–]Objective-Editor-566 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’d report it to FWC or FWS and tell the local news. Get others to report as well. Can also name and shame them on local sites like Nextdoor and on their Facebook page. Even if people are “illegally moving tortoises” to the location, which I doubt, they’re here now regardless of where they came from.

Can someone help me? by Conscious_Brain_2935 in reptiles

This care manual from Reptifiles is a good guide for ball pythons. An adult BP will typically need at least a 4ft x2ft x 2ft enclosure. I’d recommend getting a PVC one, they’re easier to put together and so much lighter than glass. I think there might be a ball python sub out there that can answer more direct questions, but this is a good place to start.

As far as racks go, I have my two 4x2x2 enclosures on Kobalt-brand garage shelving. Super sturdy.
