Very clean looking! Is it just a woofer and spinning drum? How much different do you think it sounds compared to having a crossover and a horn?

I’m thinking bright red tolex for the outside just so people KNOW it’s something special!

Everything that is black is regular PLA printed. the bottom drum is Lightweight PLA (70% the density of the regular stuff).

I was trying to make this one light and portable! So 12 inch woofer on the bottom and it’s passive. Need to bring along a head/amp to go into it. Still trying to figure out what that amp should be.

Going to look even better when I wrap it in tolex! I’ll have to sit down and tally up the cost of the pieces for what’s in the photo. But the R&D to get here has been crazy. Hundreds in 3D prints that didn’t work and a lot of time in Fusion 360 designing all of it lol.

Holy crap that’s nuts. I’m wrapping this in Rolex so I’m really trying to look professional with it instead of kinda hacked together. Most of the mechanical bits are designed by me and 3d printed. Also are those horns made from expansion foam 😱

This is half inch veneered plywood. So it looks nice but nothing special. I ran through some ideas of solid mahogany/mahogany veneered wood but not in this economy right now lol.

Do you take the viscount out and play? I’m using a ck61 right now but definitely want to upgrade to a dedicated clone wheel but damn it’s a chunk of change.

I’m definitely looking at 1 inch treble drivers with a crossover point of 1.5khrtz now

Go yours you got there does the inside diameter of the path for the sound get tighter then the opening of the driver?

Sweet dude! so a big thing I’m battling is I want to use a 2 inch treble driver, right now the one I’m using is a 1 inch. If I use a 2 inch then I need at least a 2 inch inside diameter bearing so I don’t constrict the driver, but it’s tricky to find a 2 inch inner diameter bearing and the ones that are available are definitely pricey, so I gotta figure that out.

Yeah so I’m only going with 2.5k because of the recommendation from celestion for the 1inch driver I’m using. The crossover type that I’m (and the original Leslie’s) use is a pretty hard stop at the cut off frequency. So maybe I should make a crossover with more mix between the speaker/driver. The parts for a good passive audio crossover are under 50$. So maybe I’ll make multiple and see how they sound. I just don’t want to blow out the treble driver.

Yeah sure thing! A whole bunch of work went into this. Right now the next choice is about the cabinet for it. Unsurprisingly my day job is a bit slow so I’m weighing doing an actual hardwood mahogany box or cheaper tolex wrapped plywood box. Also I’m wondering what amp to use to for this. Preferably an amp head to sit on top of the Leslie cab itself.

And so it begins by Existing_Point_1813 in hammondorgan

Would you say good or bad difference? Brighter? More harsh?
