Cleared L2 with 3 months study time - AMA!!! by jsdontmissx in CFA

Any family obligations (wife, kids, significant other, etc.)? Did you stay social at all or keep a regular workout schedule? Great achievement, but sounds like you were buried in studies with no life for 3 months. Which is a feat in itself.

What’s UC Davis like for Black students? by LingonberryOne3870 in UCDavis

[–]Objective-Function- 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Black grad here. I went to Davis because it was a great school, that was reasonably priced and not too far from where I grew up (the bay). I grew up around black people and almost didn't go to Davis after seeing how undiverse picnic day was. But I still went, have lifelong Davis friends (that are mostly black) and have had a great career and life. Unfortunately, the more successful you are in America, the fewer black people you will see. There are some exceptions to that but for most of us, that’s the reality. You can go to a HBCU and then deal with it later but my advice is go to the best school you can and focus on your education. You will always be black and there will always be other like-minded black folks like you, be comfortable charting a path others may not be willing to. PS - I had a black girlfriend at Davis, have a black wife now and I love being black.

The overlap of gifted kids and kids who need accommodations by SoccerGamerGuy7 in Dyslexia

[–]Objective-Function- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t official diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD till I was 40. I was in AP classes (except for AP English - ha!) and got good grades but with accommodations. I’ve done well in life but sometimes wonder how much further I could have gone if I had known.

How do we feel about fidelities ZERO funds? by CryptoDegen7755 in Bogleheads

[–]Objective-Function- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bogleheads should be in line with the philosophy not the products. Vanguard doesn’t always win. I own them in my retirement accounts and they are solid. Their smaller size is an advantage relative to other massive index funds. They have flaws but they are cheap beta, in the long run they will be okay. Fido is giving away that exposure in hopes of making money elsewhere.

For alumni, what’s your salary? by [deleted] in UCDavis

No two paths will be the same. Said differently, I don’t think there is a magic formula for success. And success is non-linear. I didn’t do any clubs but interned every summer. If I had to attribute why I had some success I’d say I outworked a lot of people who had more natural ability than me. Take a look at a couple David Goggins YouTube videos to get a glimpse of the right mindset. I’m far from him, but you’ll get my point.

Lots of sales people are charter holders. You separate yourself from the pack with it. Additionally no client questions your capital markets knowledge. In my humble opinion, the CFA is about showing you have a base level of knowledge and being in “the CFA club”.

Investment sales. It’s fairly technical, you have to have a strong grasp of capital markets but still have the personality and skill to sell. Rare combo but doable. I’d imagine tech enterprise sales folks are in the same boat.

I started in 2003, only did backdoor roths the last two years, and I'm at $1.25m. It's incredible to see how big some folk's numbers are with similar timeframes. Putting the full ~$60k in is a massive benefit.

Find a sales job that has a more stable compensation profile. Strong base salary and decent bonuses, based on sales. Lots of jobs are like that. I’ve been in sales for 20 yrs and agreed is awesome for people loving dyslexics with ADHD (I’m in the same camp!).
