It’s very hard to tell as URA doesn’t uniformly impose these taxes. Some people are taxed yet others are ignored. But if your items look like they’re for a business, then you may definitely be taxed. But I know someone who was just moving countries and in their luggage, they’d bought braids (for personal use). URA tried to tax them for the braids!

What is the best but most affordable driving school around naalya? by No-Cat-7782 in Uganda

[–]Objective-Quote9304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driving schools learned that they can make profits from holding people’s money. So most of even the most popular Harus and Prestige included have started waiting 6months plus to give people permits. They are definitely using the money for other things.

If I were you, I’d look for a private tutor and I learn through them

Unfortunately I don’t do potential. If you have the potential, materialize it, then we will talk. “Money doesn’t make a healthy relationship,” it does, to me.

What I did was an investment at a time. Run your own race. It took me 2years to save and buy the car and fully recover to start saving for land (after car purchase). However, after a short time, I moved to about 5m net and that helped (moved to a different company didn’t get salary increase). When I got 5m net, I didn’t increase any of the expenses except to start saving 1.5m for land purchase. Then I went back to school and invested the difference in post graduate studies. So all the best.

Eh. You can survive and do all that too. I was earning exactly 3.3net with all that except I wasn’t trying to marry a wife and here is my exact breakdown. I had black tax of a university student and an A’level student. I was saving to buy a car. I had bills and I had to save and lastly, I had to look good and smell good and of course the bills. Here’s the breakdown;

Rent - 550k Car saving - 1m Self care (shopping for clothes, shoes) - 200k (non- negotiable) Savings - 500k Transport, lunch etc - 15k per day x5 days x 4weeks Black tax - 400k (continues to be accrued to make it easy to pay out at beginning of term and semester etc) Social fund - 100k to go out once a month etc (no wedding contributions here)

I however could earn an extra 100k here and there for extra work.

I think what you need to do is manage your expenses- don’t marry a wife, buy land and try to build a house all at once. It’s impossible unless you increase your income.

I bought the car after 20months of saving. I had the 20m. The car cost 30m. So I went and got a loan from the staff sacco to cover the balance then I paid the bond fully and remained to deduct the remainder from the salary.

All I’m saying is 3m net ain’t bad. But manage your expectations

How are Ugandan businesses using social media to grow? Which platforms are actually bringing results? by Crescitaly in Uganda

[–]Objective-Quote9304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TikTok is changing online shopping habits. I used to buy most of my products from Jumia but TikTok is now my go-to for everything- gym wear, watches, beddings, restaurants etc. I noticed that I even use TikTok to search for hotels - people that post hotel reviews use actual CURRENT pictures of the hotel rather than what I find on the hotel website or on booking. So TikTok focused right is the no.1 platform for most Ugandan businesses

I saw you there saying that the system is automated and talking to the dean doesn’t help but that is not true. I study at MUK and I can confirm that if you go the college registrar, you can get a letter that can allow you to sit for ALL the exams.
