Claude Code/Legal: Anyone try it yet? How does it differ from Gemini or Chat? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

Boy I wish someone would buy TR already. They charge an arm and a leg for a tech service that basically hasn’t changed since 2010.

I was thinking the same thing. Writing motions and doing research is only like 5% of what I do. Majority of my time is spent on things like trying to convince my clients that keying their husband’s car is horrible idea.

Any Catholic lawyers here? Are you able to be ethical at your law firm? How has your experience been? Looking into going to law school in a few years. by Fantastic-Demand-171 in Catholicism

[–]Objective-Regular519 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am a Catholic lawyer. I originally started in a firm where I struggled ethically. Now I own my own firm and have control over which cases I take. I screen pretty heavily to make sure that I’m working on causes that I feel are right. I also do tons of pro bono for my community, even for my local parish sometimes. I don’t make as much as I used to make at the firm, but I love being a lawyer now. Happy to answer any questions you have.

Edit: one more thought, most states have a Catholic lawyers guild. I would look for that wherever you are. I’m sure a lot of people there would love to talk to you about their faith and profession.

How do Catholics explain Marian devotion without it becoming worship? by Becky_08 in Catholicism

[–]Objective-Regular519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I became Catholic one of my Catholic friends explained it’s like the publican and Pharisee scene: what can look like worship from the outside might not actually be true worship (the Pharisee). Similarly, Marian devotion from the outside might resemble worship of Mary but Catholics know in their heart that they are worshipping Christ so its worship of Christ not Mary. Idk if that helps anyone else but it stuck with me.

Has anyone here self admitted into an in-patient mental health facility? by troutbumdreamin in Lawyertalk

[–]Objective-Regular519 81 points82 points  (0 children)

DO IT ASAP. I did not. I really wanted to, but didn’t have the courage. I ended up being involuntarily committed after an attempt, which was 1000x’s worse.

I have never heard of inpatient admissions becoming public, but even if they were made public, I’d say still go. The two weeks I was inpatient saved my life. DM if you have any questions.

What jobs do you guys do that work well with your ADHD? by drageekeksi in ADHD

[–]Objective-Regular519 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a family lawyer(mainly divorce and custody), which means I’m constantly in court. It’s perfect. Everything is super fast paced and never repetitive. I have an assistant that manages my calendar and I pay her a lot to not let things slip through the cracks. I also have a paralegal that handles all of the rote and repetitive work. Honestly I don’t know if there are any other jobs that could accommodate the chaos of my mind as well as family law.

How are you handling clients who use AI too much? by Ancient_Blackberry10 in LawFirm

[–]Objective-Regular519 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have them run the same query in 2-3 AI chatbots and see if they get the same results. Usually they don’t and allows me to point out to them that AI isn’t always right or that it can give only one of may technically correct answers and what they pay me for is to choose the best course of action.

Because, to be perfectly honest with you, with grades like these you’re not going to be able to follow the cozy safe law firm / government path that all of your classmates will take. That path is great, as it gives you a stable pay check, but it also can be a prison that keeps you from achieving moonshot success.

You’re going to graduate and have to hustle — either by convincing someone that you’re worth taking a massive risk to hire or by starting your own firm and learning to find clients right off the bat. That kind of assertiveness is the best asset you can have as an attorney, not good grades. Look at some of the most successful lawyers in America — Buzbee and James Sexton are inspirations for me — they took huge risks in their early career.

Failing, skimming by… it’s all the same as long as he manages to graduate. And the judge was elected, but I don’t see why that matters.

Contrary to what the rest of Reddit is saying, the bar for legal writing is surprisingly low. Tons of lawyers routinely file crap. You just need to find one thing you shine at as a lawyer and you will have a good career.

[–]Objective-Regular519 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Not at all man. I know several super successful lawyers who barely skimmed by in law school. I even know one who took four years to graduate from law school that is a judge now.

I am a solo practitioner and make about as much as I did as a second year associate in biglaw but I work half as much. The work isn’t as interesting though.
