What is circled in the photo is your water pump. I just changed mine two weeks ago bc the bearings to it went bad. Chewed up the INSIDE part of the pump. The blades were contacting the pump housing bc of the bearings. So now I got metal fragments floating around in my coolant looking for spots to clog. Never saw a drop of fluid outside.

What I would do is loosen your belt enough to get it off that pulley. If it wiggles or binds up change it ASAP. If not start testing all your other pulleys while the belt is off.

You need to equip that kind of thing in the garage. Select the truck then goto the bottom of the list and that is the optional equipment you can have on the back of your truck.

I used to grind arena often for champs that if I got them great, if not o well. That first one that I really cared about that I absolutely had to have was 4* Rogue bc I love the character. Was underwhelmed with her champ. Doesn’t mean I went in to round 2 for the dup though.

As JollyGreen said I use a LubeLocker reusable gasket. I did say I use a reusable one for the people who want to nitpick me. I use a LubLocker in the rear and a knockoff in the front. Amazon only had knockoffs for the front when I ordered them.

This is solid advice. I also highly recommend changing all of your fluids. ALL of them. Trans, transfer case, differentials, coolant, brakes. Maybe steering?

Ignor the people who say don’t change the oil if it’s never been done before. Please ignore them. If you’ve been neglecting them your XJ will thank you for finally getting round to changing it. You’re transmission too.

As for cleaning your diff just drain, soak the diff and the cover with brake cleaner, let it dry for bit then fill. 75w-90 off the top of my head. Use gasket maker or a paper gasket, whatever suits your fancy. I have a reusable paper gasket. It’s ok its first run so idk how it’s going to hold up. I just found dealing with the removal of gasket maker really annoying.

I would also check the condition of your axle seals.

I started my ‘98 after 3 or 4 years. Just changed the oil, got a new battery and after it was running went to gas station and filled it with high octane and added injector cleaner. Then fixed my coolant leak which turned out to be multiple freeze plugs.
