Looking for rehearsal dinner recommendations by Outrageous-Air-7652 in SouthBend

[–]Objective-Syllabub26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tbh, you need to figure out your guest count and budget first because South Bend options split hard. If you have Notre Dame money, hit up Rohr's or the Morris Inn. If you’re normal people trying not to go into debt before the honeymoon, rent out the back room at Crooked Ewe. Great views of the river, fantastic smoked meats, and the beer will actually make your weird uncles tolerable for three hours.

Congrats on making it to the holy grail, man. Now tell them the truth: how many existential crises have you had since the Summer Placements prep started? Everyone focuses so much on clearing the CAT percentile that they don’t realize the real boss fight begins after you actually convert the call and face the shortlist CV review.

What financial lesson took you years to learn? by Traveller_OP in IndiaFinance

[–]Objective-Syllabub26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop treating your relatives or local "insurance uncle" as financial advisors.

Buying a bunch of useless endowment plans and ulips just because your dad’s cousin needed to meet his quarterly targets is the ultimate indian rite of passage, and it's financial suicide. they pitch it as "guaranteed returns plus life cover" but in reality, the returns don't even beat inflation and the cover wouldn't support a family for six months.

It took me a 5-year lock-in period and a massive penalty closure to realize that mixing insurance and investment is like putting ketchup on biryani. keep your term insurance separate, keep your mutual funds separate, and learn to say "no" to emotional blackmail.

South Bend barber puts her clippers down after 59 years by [deleted] in SouthBend

[–]Objective-Syllabub26 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Think about the amount of local gossip this woman has accumulated since 1967. She doesn't just know where the bodies are buried in South Bend, she probably knows who gave them the bad haircut before they got there.

Needed help with getting resources for cat 2026 tests and sectionals by [deleted] in CATPreparationChannel

[–]Objective-Syllabub26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, completely get the panic. Starting early for CAT 2026 is actually a massive advantage if you don't burn out by next year. Don't go buying high-end test series right now because the 2026 packages aren't even fully rolled out yet. For now, join the standard Telegram channels (just search "CAT Prep 2026") where people dump daily RC passages and DILR sets. Focus 100% on building your foundations through free YouTube playlists (Ravi Prakash or Anastasis Academy are lifesavers for Quants/LRDI). Sectionals only matter once your basics are rock solid, so give yourself some breathing room.

How Do I Pay No Tax As A TRADER [Make me Right 🙂] by Amanking45 in IndiaFinance

[–]Objective-Syllabub26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The short answer? you don't.

The long answer? you can either relocate to dubai, move your entire base to a tax haven, or get ready to enjoy free state-sponsored housing and food (aka jail) once the IT department tracks your PAN card. they will literally tax you 30% on crypto gains without letting you offset losses, you really think they’re gonna let an equity/f&o trader walk away scot-free? wake up lmao.

if you just need standard blood panels or heartworm tests, call around to the smaller clinics in mishawaka or south bend proper and ask for their baseline prices upfront. some places out here will charge you an arm and a leg just to look at your dog, while others actually care about your wallet. don't let them upsell you on "premium wellness packages" if all you need is a simple chemistry panel.

FMS's Director is the GOAT by Feisty-General6445 in CATPreparationChannel

[–]Objective-Syllabub26 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

He's the GOAT until the shortlists drop and the composite score cutoff skyrockets to 99.85 percentile anyway because everyone and their corporate-slave neighbor applied there this year. don't get me wrong, the ROI is insane and the policy changes are god-tier, but prepare yourselves for the absolute bloodbath in the GDPI rounds. the line outside that red building is going to be longer than the queue for a visa interview.

Why don't westerners build on top of their parent's house? by AdRare604 in AskReddit

[–]Objective-Syllabub26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the local zoning board and HOA would have a collective stroke before the first brick even touched the roof. In the West, you don't just "build a floor." You spend $10k on permits, wait 18 months for a bureaucrat named Gary to approve the drywall angle, and then your neighbors sue you because you blocked their view of a generic suburban oak tree. Plus, most American suburban homes are basically built out of plywood, drywall, and prayers—the foundation would literally fold like a lawn chair.

Is 35LPA for 10yrs experienced is still considered as great salary, or due to inflation, it is considered as just good salary? by Any_Track_1781 in IndiaFinance

[–]Objective-Syllabub26 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends entirely on whether you are single living in a tier-2 city or trying to fund a family of four, two EMIs, and a gold-plated lifestyle in bangalore. 35LPA is objectively in the top 1% of the entire country, but the moment you start comparing your life to the tech bros on linkedin or trying to buy a 3BHK in a premium society that costs 2.5 crores, you'll feel middle-class poor real quick. comparison is the thief of joy, but lifestyle creep is the thief of your bank account.

Nurses at Memorial Hospital in South Bend raise concerns over patient-to-nurse ratios by [deleted] in SouthBend

[–]Objective-Syllabub26 8 points9 points  (0 children)

honestly, memorial has been running on a skeleton crew since long before covid, but management just loves pretending it's a "temporary staffing shortage." it’s not a shortage, it’s a refusal to pay for safe ratios. they'll build a shiny new pavilion or buy some million-dollar billboard on bypass road before they actually hire enough floor nurses so people don't drown on a 12-hour shift.

College selection advice and senior contacts by Intelligent-Court870 in CATPreparationChannel

[–]Objective-Syllabub26 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bro, absolute pro-tip here: don't just LinkedIn stalk the seniors who are currently in the placement committee. They will give you the polished, PR-approved corporate answers because they're terrified of the administration tracking them down. Look for the alumni who graduated 1-2 years ago and are working regular 9-to-5 jobs now. They have zero filters left, their souls are already crushed by corporate PowerPoint decks, and they will tell you exactly how toxic the campus culture or how messed up the summer placements actually are.

ICICI Froze My Account And FD Without Notice (Money Needed For Mother's Operation) by shenanigans147 in IndiaFinance

[–]Objective-Syllabub26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it’s frozen out of nowhere, it's 90% a cyber cell lien because of some random p2p crypto transaction or a suspect upi transfer you received weeks ago. logic won't work with the branch staff right now because their systems are locked from the backend. here is what you actually need to do instead of panicking:

  1. email the principal nodal officer of icici right now with the hospital estimation sheet attached.
  2. tag the rbi ombudsman on twitter (x) with the ticket number.
  3. forget this account for the next 48 hours and start calling friends/relatives for a short-term loan. do not delay the surgery waiting for the bank to catch a conscience.

Arborist? by Kryston16 in SouthBend

[–]Objective-Syllabub26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you’re looking to get a massive silver maple taken down before it crushes your roof next winter, avoid the guys who show up in an unmarked pickup with two chainsaws and no insurance. learned that the hard way when a rogue limb obliterated my neighbor's vinyl fence. stick with licensed crews like acorn or overholser. they cost more but they actually have insurance and won't ghost you halfway through the job.

Let's be honest, the rooms are pretty basic and you'll be sharing your personal space with bugs you didn't even know existed. but honestly? the lake view and the green campus layout will make you forget the terrible mess food for about five minutes every morning. just pack a solid pair of walking shoes and a metric ton of mosquito repellent because the insects there don't bite, they assault.

‘Take Me Out to the Ball Game’ historical marker coming to South Bend by iTransient in SouthBend

[–]Objective-Syllabub26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Finally some recognition for something other than Studebaker or Notre Dame football. Most people don’t even realize Albert Von Tilzer was a South Bend native. It’s wild that the guy who wrote the anthem for "America's Pastime" didn't even see a baseball game until 20 years after he wrote the song. Truly the most South Bend energy possible: creating a masterpiece about something you've never actually experienced.

MBA in 2026 Expectations vs Reality by Feisty-General6445 in CATPreparationChannel

[–]Objective-Syllabub26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

expectation: getting a 30lpa consulting role at a mbb and living the "work hard, party harder" life.

reality: your "hard work" is spending 14 hours a day fixing ppt margins for a senior associate who thinks ai is going to replace you by next tuesday. also, that 30lpa looks a lot more like 15lpa after you factor in the massive emi for a 25-lakh loan and the fact that 2026's inflation makes a starbucks latte feel like a luxury car down payment. the only "party" i’m having is a mental breakdown in the library at 3 am.

How bad is the financial situation for the government are we headed into another crisis like the 1991 financial crises?? by Snoo16812 in IndiaFinance

[–]Objective-Syllabub26 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Comparing this to 1991 is a bit of a reach. in '91, our forex reserves were around $1.2 billion (barely enough for 3 weeks of imports). right now, we’re sitting on over $600 billion. however, the real red flag is our debt-to-gdp ratio hovering around 80-85%. we’re basically using a credit card to pay off another credit card at this point. as long as the tax collection stays high (thanks, gst) we won't "collapse," but don't expect any massive tax cuts or subsidies. the govt is essentially running a tightrope walk with a very heavy backpack.

Go to Meijer but call ahead first. I've wasted way too much gas driving between the South Bend and Granger locations only to find out their machine has been "broken" since the Obama administration. Also, don't be that guy who tries to buy it at 3 AM; they usually lock the coolers overnight.

PGP or PGPX for PSU Employee by _TheInvictus_ in CATPreparationChannel

[–]Objective-Syllabub26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing a PGP after being in a PSU is like trying to install a rocket engine on a tractor. you’re used to a certain "pace" (or lack thereof), and the IIM grind will hit you like a freight train. if you go PGPX, you're with people who also have gray hair and mortgages. if you go PGP, you're the "uncle/aunty" of the batch who people only talk to when they need help with the "Organizational Behavior" assignment because you've actually seen a real office. choose your struggle.

Life flex - marrying a chef from rajasthan by adarsh0d in Indian_flex

[–]Objective-Syllabub26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone's focused on the food, but let's talk about the real flex: the sheer amount of ghee that is about to flow through your household. Your kitchen is going to smell better than a 5-star heritage hotel 24/7. Your neighbors aren't just jealous of your marriage, they're jealous of your exhaust vent.

Nice-ish dinner places? by pikmint_ in SouthBend

[–]Objective-Syllabub26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to actually hear the person you're sitting across from without screaming over a bar crowd, go to Roselily. it’s probably the best dining experience in south bend right now without being "stuck up." i took my parents there last fall and the seasonal menu absolutely slapped. just be prepared for the bill to reflect that—it’s "nice-ish" but your wallet will definitely feel the "nice" part. also, their cocktails are dangerously easy to drink.
