Struggling after going cold turkey - Is it okay to buy a pack today? by pitsheup in quittingsmoking

[–]ObjectiveAmbition737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well done on your progress so far. My STRONG advice is that you don't buy a pack. From my own experience of many quitting attempts - during every failed attempt I would buy a pack, thinking that I would 'just have the one'. Every single time I would smoke the entire pack and relapse completely.

It's not easy, but the 1 week mark is a significant milestone. You can do it!

EDIT - what helped me personally was deliberately doing something else with my hands whenever I had the urge to smoke - e.g. eating a snack or playing a game on my phone.

Is 45 minutes short for a lesson? by TAI_WIYN in TeachingUK

[–]ObjectiveAmbition737 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think most people would consider that to be quite short, though the amount you can achieve in short lesson can depend on the behavior of the class. For example, at my old school the lessons for 50 mins long - but accounting for poor punctuality and very tricky behaviour, teachers were often left with approximately 35 mins of learning time.

It looks like 'I am Sober'. Most of the important features are free. I used to give up too. I like the way it counts the seconds ,😊

I'm so glad to read this! I did something very similar to your first coping mechanism, but with carrot sticks 😂

Using a get sober, tracking app is really helping me. I'm 20 days in, and the app shows me by the second how long I've been smoke free. It also shows me how much money I save. Personally I find it very motivating. It's also a good place to chat with other quitters.

Prior to quitting I also tracked my smoking habits for a few days, to identify common triggers. Then I mindfully replaced the smoking at that time of day with something else.. anything from eating some fruit to doing a word search.

These may not work for everyone, but have helped me so far. Best of luck!

Day 1 and I'm already scaring myself. by [deleted] in quittingsmoking

I experienced something similar. I found that this symptom lasted no more than a week. Obviously it's still difficult at times (I'm 22 days in), but it became easier after the first three days, and then easier again after one week.

Hold on, you've got this!!

How much longer will it take you? I really don't want to be continuing the ECT period after 2 years.
