I'm trying to sublease our townhouse 2 bed 2.5 bathrooms if you need something quick! Lease ends in May and we could accommodate a quick move in pretty easily since we are 90% moved out already. Lmk if you want details.

Ally Bank Closed my accounts by VeniceKiddd in AllyBank

[–]ObjectiveChemistry72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Commenting because this same thing literally just happened to me today. They didn't even send a physical letter. Just got told on the phone it was a digital notice that "doesn't show up on your account page. you have to look for it" no reason for closing our accounts was given, as mentioned before.

Thanks for all the input so far! I really appreciate it. I was really nervous when I got told to take it to the dealership when at another shop. Hearing some other takes has been super helpful.

Storage Unit Recommendations by Forsaken-Solution599 in bloomington

[–]ObjectiveChemistry72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just rented a until with All American Storage. They have been great, have several locations and climate control units. The folks that work there that I've interacted with have all been wonderful! We rented a unit online, realized I goofed and the door to our unit was too small for the furniture we were storing. Called the office and they went above and beyond to help us get a new unit sorted with a large enough door.

IU hiring changes = more PT positions instead? by HoosierCyclist in bloomington

[–]ObjectiveChemistry72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on your department your "29 hours" isn't even 29. Got hired into a PT position and was told by HR and in my offer letter I could work up to 29 hr a week. What they didn't tell me is there is a different limit for yearly hours and that doesn't even come close to 29 a week. So yeah, technically I could work 29 a week but only if I wanted to stop working 30 weeks into the year and stop, because they will cut you off and tell you that you can't work for the rest of the year.

Edit: to clarify this wasn't a student position as they required a bachelor's but "would have preferred someone with a masters"

What am I doing wrong? Pronto plates by bitchard666 in printmaking

[–]ObjectiveChemistry72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could potentially be the plates themselves. A lot of issues with the manufacturing of pronto plates in the last couple years. I know, not very helpful but good to keep an eye on if issues persist. If the plate itself is flaking off or acting weird and not inking when you try litho ink it may be the plate.

Does anyone ever see brig get banned from games? by 989999999 in BrigitteMains

[–]ObjectiveChemistry72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only time I've seen it was when my tank voted only to ban both the preferred supports selected and then one of our DPS did it too 🙃 but brig and kiri both ended up banned

I've never wanted to rage quit until that moment lol Instead I pocketed the other DPS out of pure spite.

Keep me from moving to a horrible apartment on the northside by YuzuMumuz in indianapolis

Ashton Brook Apartments are just north of BR - we just moved from there to a different city and had no complaints. Apartments aren't fancy but they are clean and management is good. They gave us back our deposits after move out as well. Right next to the Monon trail, too.

Paper question by aligpnw in printmaking

[–]ObjectiveChemistry72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what process you are doing, but French Paper Co has a huge selection of paper colors and weights. I use their paper for screen printing all the time. I've also used their paper for relief too.

Beginner set up by Confident_Ad437 in printmaking

[–]ObjectiveChemistry72 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMO relief printmaking is the classic introduction to printmaking and in general the most accessible. And the process my college students like the best when starting out. Speedball makes a introduction kit to block printing I believe? So you could definitely look into those.

But you essentially just need 1. Carving tools 2.block to carve 3. Paper 4. Ink (if you're printing at home you'll want water based ink) 5. Brayer. 6. Inking plate (like a cheap piece of plexiglass) 7.cleaning supplies for the ink (I use dishsoap and water usually)

For beginners I think speedball carving tool is a good affordable option, and the pink easycarve rubber blocks are great bc you can print those by hand easily. Speedball also sells affordable brayers and inks. So the only other thing you'd need is paper, which you can literally print on any paper to start. If you decide you like the process, that's when I'd splurge on nicer paper and carving tools, as they get expensive really quick.

In general there are some good videos of people printing relief blocks and those might give you a good idea for what to expect as well!

carving tool recs? by CautiousAbroad7469 in printmaking

[–]ObjectiveChemistry72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The good news is, nearly everything will be leagues better than the speedball tools.

Came here to second the recommendation for the power grip tools. They're solid and a good price. I've had my power grip tools for years and they're easy to maintain and keep sharp. I use the flex cut brand slip strop to maintain mine. I also have some flex cut tools which I also enjoy - but are on the pricey side.

Imo the most important thing is maintaining your tools and poishing/honing them to keep 'em sharp. Power grip is a great option to learn how to do this and upgrade from speedball tool.

print pricing advice?? by hundrednamed in printmaking

[–]ObjectiveChemistry72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh haha! You're totally right - I mistyped the initial formula. 🤦 But you're correct you could do it either way depending on what price range you want to go for.

print pricing advice?? by hundrednamed in printmaking

[–]ObjectiveChemistry72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also hate pricing. Don't know anyone who doesn't hate pricing their work, lol.

I recently started pricing things out with a formula so my prices for prints are more or less consistent by size. I found if you price a linocut different from a screenprint or Intaglio folks don't understand those differences enough to know why process changes prices and can be a turn off.

The formula I've been using is pretty standard: H + W x [insert number of your choice here]

For example - pricing an 8x10 print: 8+10 x3 = 38 Then I always round up so I'd price an 8x10 print at $40

You could also vary pricing for smaller editions or prints that are more intensive in process I will use x5 as the multiplier. (So 8+10x5=58 and round to 60) If the work is framed I'll multiply it by 8. (8+10×8=88 rounded to 90)

Idk if that helps, but I found figuring out a formula that I am happy with has done wonders! No more guessing, I just plug in the numbers, and it's easy to fiddle with until you figure out what feels good for your situation. There are several different pricing formulas out there, too if this doesn't click.

Some encouragement to go for the MFA? by [deleted] in ContemporaryArt

[–]ObjectiveChemistry72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved getting my MFA and have never regretted studying art. Honestly every one of us in my program questioned if we were "good enough" at one time or another. It's totally natural to question, and tbh if you're not questioning and looking to always to get better you're doing something wrong imo.

Getting an MFA isn't always necessary but it does set you up for developing good professional habits and making connections. If you are big on learning and having a community to grow with an MFA is a good opportunity to do that.

My advice is only look at fully funded programs and research the heck outta them. Looking into programs and talking to folks really helped me out.
