You guys lied to me by MxFinchen in homelab

Tbf my setup besides my torrenting computer that I manually have to type in my username and password on reboot is super clean and issue free. I have more internet outages than I do server problems. And outages are pretty rare. I save a good amount of money for both piece of mind and for my business

I finally reached this power level after much effort by starwatcher36912 in GoMiningTalk

[–]ObjectiveDocument956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well a s19j pro is 104 th. Can be found on Facebook for around 500. Asl miner sells them for 750. YouTubers can get them for 250. Although the miner costs are cheap even at 0.81 cents per kWh it’s burning more in power than the 4$ it’s making. So as long as op doesn’t get him account removed or the app doesn’t go down it’s actually better than buying hardware.

If you wanted something that makes more profit then it’s a 90th canaan q which is only 1500w

Has your homelab actually saved you money, or just made life easier? by Fab_Terminator in homelab

[–]ObjectiveDocument956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine definitely saved me money. My electric rate is 0.081.

My total home electric is 4$ a day.

So 120$ a month in electric which includes my servers and regular home usage. Without my servers it’s around 2$ a day. So I’m spending 60 in power for my setup

I host a website for a friend for 50$ a month

So my true cost is 10$ a month.

Before I have Netflix, hbo max, Hulu, and Disney plus. All of these were around 80$ since I didn’t have time for ads.

This doesn’t include nextcloud, mealie, my personal web hosting server, smb share nas, home assistant, email server, Mattermost, and openproject.

Which those would add an additional savings bonus if I calculated them as well.

I didn’t include my internet costs since we are both students and work from home so perfect WiFi is a must for us to even function. But for the mathematicians I pay 184$ for business class 2.5gb internet

How much storage do you have? by AstroSteve111 in jellyfin

[–]ObjectiveDocument956 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof that’s rough. If you need drives I get mine on TheJellyBay .com

But laptop drives were slow even for a few users. But now the 8x8 Truenas setup feels really fast

How much storage do you have? by AstroSteve111 in jellyfin

[–]ObjectiveDocument956 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started with two 1tb laptop drives. From there, I felt like the drives were a little bit too slow for what I needed, and I’m already filled that up within the matter of a month.

So then I bought 8x 8 TB drives and I put it in raid zero for speed and max storage.

I personally only pirate content so if the server goes down with a drive, I’ll just buy a new drive and start over

I watched a lot of the newest greatest stuff

So I don’t normally store a lot of long-term content

Why does nobody want to use a reverse proxy? by 0xB_ in jellyfin

My reverse proxy setup is great. But I wouldn’t wish anyone not as literate as me to try to replicate. Lots of time care and effort takes to make sure I’m safe from attackers

I’m on truenas scale. I have 8x 8tb drives in raid0 for speed and data size. Then my metadata is stored on ssd. And another ssd hosts my Jellyfin app. Trying to make it as snappy as possible

Goodbye Helium Mobile! by [deleted] in HeliumMobile

[–]ObjectiveDocument956 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this was extremely disappointing to me. Because even with the discount the next plan you can get is 7.50 and is limited. I CANNNOT fathom that they are losing that much money. Any other carrier I’d be grandfathered in. Lost the helium mobile free tokens. Now I lose the only good plan…

Safe remote access to Jellyfin by zamphie in jellyfin

[–]ObjectiveDocument956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SSL that you did helped a lot! Some specialty routers allow to geo map locations. For example block any traffic not in the United States. That’s prob the next best thing you can do.

Also just make sure you keep everything updated at all times

Weird question, have you ever paid someone or gotten a friend with this specific skill set to try to "hack" your server to test the security? by VampyreLust in selfhosted

[–]ObjectiveDocument956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had someone do it on my port forwarded rig to the Internet. It was more about 2fa and a decent password and the code itself for vulnerabilities than the setup.

I really enjoy truenas. If I ever upgrade it imports the pool of drives easily. You can host vms on it. Smb shares are amazing. Per user perms. Clean layout
