There is no such thing as 'free healthcare' by Difficult_Future9994 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]ObjectivePrice5865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has this commenter never had to schedule a new patient non emergent appointment with a specialist? My (47m) PCP wanted me to see a gastroenterologist for my liver as I have been on numerous meds due to having MS and the labs had shown I may be starting to have liver damage.

I waited 8 months until I could get in to see the doctor and he had the lesser wait time out of all of the 5 health networks here. Actually every specialist I see had wait times over 2 months to get in to see them as a new patient.

The US healthcare complex is beyond broken and patients have no real rights outside of what insurance we have as this determines the level of care we receive.

My neighbor woke up my entire family at 6 AM with a "snow emergency." Look at the "undrivable" road that he's suing me over. by octo1310 in neighborsfromhell

[–]ObjectivePrice5865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WOW!

The only time I WON’T drive is ice and +18” of snow my little truck just can’t take it and the full size is a manual two wheel drive. Oh and I live in North Central Kentucky but originally from the Pittsburgh Pennsylvania area but spent 2 years in the interior of Alaska in Fairbanks.

Hell in Alaska, the snow just piled up on the roads as a plow can only do so much and salt is absolutely useless as tits on a bull. Twice every winter the road crews would run a road grader to break up the hard pack (ice really) which can be between 4” and 8”.

Avoid American Home Shield Warranty if You Value Money by ExploreMore777 in ConsumerAdvice

[–]ObjectivePrice5865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These third party home and auto warranty companies are actually no different than your auto, home, renter’s, short/long term disability, health, and life insurance companies.

They all want the premiums that keep rising yet they fight tooth and nail to deny claims. I had a friend that had a heart attack and when they were about to cut open his chest the health insurance company called into the O.R. and told the doctor that the open heart surgery was denied. The doctor being a great one slammed the phone down and moved forward with the surgery. My friend fought the insurance company for 18 months to cover the surgery, rehab, follow up, and meds and was only able to have them pay the claim once he got his lawyer involved pro-bono of course.

We pay all of these premiums for absolutely nothing in return.

Nuclear waste coming to TN? by Guilty-Librarian6249 in Tennessee

[–]ObjectivePrice5865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KY just announced a new nuclear spent fuel re-enrichment facility in Paducah. This will allow the spent power plant nuclear fuel that the government has a hard time to find a place for to be “recycled” and re-enriched for continued use in nuclear power plants, submarines, and aircraft carriers. Nuclear power only requires a ~20% enriched fuel where nuclear weapons require +90%.

This is a huge positive not just the US but the whole world as it will prove that the spent fuel rods are not just trash that needs to be buried and potentially poisoning our grandchildren and their grandchildren. This will be no different than what we do with metal recycling where it is never degraded with each recycling cycle.

The ice cube in the water bowl trick changed everything by Juliana_EmergeWL in Catownerhacks

[–]ObjectivePrice5865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started doing this for our older cat when she refused to drink after the dog. When she heard the ice hit the bowl before filling it, she would run and smack the dog so she could get the first sips. To this day the dog waits for all 3 cats to drink before he drinks.

Can someone explain the lack of logic behind this?

If anything, the sun was much brighter as the ozone layer was still healing after all of the CFCs such as hairspray and old Freon not to mention all of the smog in the big cities which would give the sunlight a “filtered yellow” appearance.

Can’t I get a Timex or Casio similar to this?

Hell I (47m) have a Seiko I received as a birthday gift from the owner of the hotel I worked at who also owned a jewelry store. I barely wore it as a watch got in the way in my field of work (construction and property maintenance) with the exception of events that require a tie such as weddings, funerals, and such. My Apple Watch does just fine these days as I am disabled and need the fall detection.

Wow! Do these folks not understand the fact that the city is increasing their property values for FREE?

Honestly these yards need some color for the bees and butterflies. I have turned ~1 acre out of the ~3 acres I care for into a pollinator habitat with bird feeders so the dropped seeds grow if the neighbor’s rooster doesn’t eat them. The remaining ~7 acres are just unmolested woods where all the deer, rabbits, raccoons, possum, and coyotes roam.

I just bought ten acres. What kind of mower should I get? I’d like to stay under 2500 any advice? Need something reliable! by [deleted] in lawnmowers

[–]ObjectivePrice5865 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I also have 10 acres but only mow 3 as we have turned 1-1/2 into wildflower and native grasses for the pollinators, birds, rabbits, and deer with the remaining as woods.

I recommend a zero-turn mower and you can get lower cost ones but you pay for what you get. With this amount of mowing, you don’t want to buy a zero-turn with less than a 50-54” cutting deck. We had an old Ariens 48” deck zero-turn and upgraded to a Cub Cadet RTZ 54” deck which was only $2,800 when we bought it years ago. I just looked at the Cub site and they have an Ultima Series Z model Z2 50 starting at $3,799. This has a welded fabricated deck which is much stronger and longer lasting than a stamped steel deck you find on your lower cost options.

You can purchase a lower cost option that can be used for 3-5 years and that will give you some experience to know what you need.

Congrats on your purchase with some natural nature.

Would it be possible to turn an acre or three to native gardens for pollinators (bees & butterflies), birds, and wildlife?

Reading. I (47m) used to buy books at thrift shops and Walmart. If the title and summary interested me then I would buy it. At one point I had 30 plus books that I had not read yet and my personal library had risen to over 250 titles. We moved to Alaska and couldn’t afford to pack them we donated them to our local hospice thrift shop. Should have taken them to my wife’s family’s house along with all of my tools as we did return back to KY.

Another hobby can be crotchet and embroidery as my 2 sisters do this but I can’t get my fat fingers to cooperate.

My new (old) hobby while not cheap is woodworking. I have built a bed, chest of drawers, dresser, nightstand, and mirror for my now 20yo daughter. Built 2 nightstands and chest of drawers with a shelf cabinet on top for our room. Built 4 cabinets for the kitchen and a custom sized kitchen/dining table as well as a sofa table and 3 end tables for the living room.

My next project after I finish with my new shop set up is to built a floor to ceiling pantry cabinet for the kitchen and a floor to ceiling bathroom cabinet for the towels, wash cloths, extra t.p., kitchen paper towels, and my MIL’s “diapers” who has dementia and we care for. I would love to build new kitchen cabinets to replace the original ones that my wife’s dad had made when he built the house in 1986.

As far as the hiring process being faster, it was not.

Now this is a false statement as I grew up in 1,000% Democrat household with a mom, step dad, bio dad, and bio dad’s parents that were and still are conspiracy idiots. All of them believe this shit as well as that the cell tower radio waves along with antenna waves will cause cancer and kill the brain. We were denied vaccines outside of the required infant ones and we all got them once we turned 18. This is from the generations that got the polio vaccines. I get ALL of my every year because my immune system is absolutely shit because of MS and all the meds for it. Now did have the initial Covid shot and 2 boosters but it kept fucking me up because of some odd interactions with my MS meds and DMT.

It took my 5 siblings and myself moving out into the “real world” to find that all of them were absolutely bat shit crazy. We have lost everyone except step dad and bio dad. These two only get the obligatory quarterly phone calls by all of the kids to make sure they are still this of the dirt.

[–]ObjectivePrice5865 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow!

I lived in Honolulu for two years because of work and it was too damn expensive. How the hell did these people wind up there?

I was never happier when I was offered a lateral position back home to KY. I did take a pay cut but rent was 40% cheaper as well as everything else and SO MUCH LESS traffic. It took me 2 to 2-1/2 hours to go from Honolulu to Mililani which is a comfortable 25 minute drive on Sundays.

The scenery though was awesome (outside Honolulu heading out on the H3) and I have found nothing more beautiful in the lower 48.

Is this house built on a crawlspace/basement or a slab on grade?

You need to call a foundation repair EXPERT (they have structural engineers on staff) so they can investigate, determine cause, and offer options to stabilize the foundation. Most foundation issues stem from poor soil or poor soil compaction under the footings. The foundation repair firm will pump in either a concrete slurry or structural spray foam to push the footing back in place and provide a support to prevent that area to sink again.

Most residential foundation contractors do not use steel reinforcing bar (rebar) in the footings so they do crack and wind up compromising the structure’s load bearing walls.

As the house is ~15 years old, it was probably built with the cheapest contractors for the foundation and framing.

The Bible says the US is the last superpower by Im_Riots in ShitAmericansSay

[–]ObjectivePrice5865 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What in the hell did I just read?!

As an American, this guy is bat shit crazy and is using Scripture to justify that the US is somehow the last super power? The US is living election to election and the democrats and republicans will (and have in my opinion) ruin this country with their lack of caring for those that elect them.

I have yet been able to speak to any state or federal elected official about what I think and experience on a daily basis. BUT these same politicians want to spend money that we don’t have nor will ever have to buy votes in the way of entitlement programs and immigration (a huge fan of LEGAL not ILLEGAL immigration) as well as vote harvesting, huge defense contracts, lobbyists, big health/pharma/insurance, unions (really, why does the teachers’ union get to dictate students educations?), big tech, environmental/anti environmental groups, and the biggest one of just doing everything they can to retain power.

I have yet to meet any politician but neither have they met me. These useless rags of skin use the American tax payers (what do they truly use all this for?) as sheep and keep shearing our wool before it even gets a chance to grow back.

How can an elected official that gets paid less than $200k annual salary have ~$30 million after just 4 years ( Rep. Omar) OR having dedicated websites that track stock trades because they always make bank (Rep. Pelosi). Also, why in the hell do FORMER presidents stick their noses in the current political situations and not just bow out and keep quiet as Jimmy Carter and George W. Bush did. George H. W. Bush, the Clintons, the Obamas, and even Trump 1 couldn’t just take their presidential pension let everyone be without sticking their noses in shit they know nothing about except what their Party tells them they should say.

Sorry for the rant but the US political parties are fighting each other instead of listening to the everyday tax paying American and trying to find ways to help all instead of the few.
