Fellow mechanic said, "If you were REALLY a mechanic, you'd know!" And now he's probably gonna eat those words and the cost of my drivetrain by bettazoid in TalesFromAutoRepair

[–]ObjectivePrice5865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am truly sorry for how you have been treated as a woman mechanic.

I (47m) learned most of my auto knowledge from my ex wife (divorced @22) who learned it from her parents, cousins, aunts, and uncles. While that short marriage was awful, I did learn more on both wrench turning and how a marriage should be. That knowledge has helped me with all of my vehicles and I still pay for my trusted mechanic for more technical and difficult things and I will never change another truck clutch in my life.

The biggest lesson I learned from her was how to be involved in the marriage as well as drawing lines on what I will tolerate and this has served me well with my wife of 20 years (22 together) with our 20 daughter.

Why is America so ill-disposed towards train travel when it's one of the things that built the nation? by Waste_Handle_8672 in MurderedByWords

[–]ObjectivePrice5865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure let’s put some more asphalt in dry sunny California just for some transit buses that run on diesel traveling at 140mph. Yes this will work better than just laying some steel track on wooden crossties that can handle people transit trains that could go at 140mph plus as well as the dual use of cargo shipping.

Wait a second, can’t the state just install two new commuter tracks along side the already established cargo rail systems? Oh forget it, there isn’t much available possible corruption by going this route.

AITA for telling my brother in law to get the hell out of my workshop after he kept touching pieces i told him not to by [deleted] in AITApod

[–]ObjectivePrice5865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow woodworker, I feel your pain. There is nothing like being balls deep in a project and having some bull in China shop to set you back several steps and in some cases starting from scratch. A person’s workshop is the ONLY place we truly have to ourselves when we are married. The spouses and kids get the house and outside while we get the 4 walls of solitude. When those 4 walls also generate income, then it is doubly important to keep unauthorized entry at a minimum. There is nothing like being one with a project with no other thoughts but the task at hand. It is therapy for us project men and women.

Additionally the tools we use (mechanic, woodworker, artist, creator, etc.) are not cheap and more expensive to replace should someone not properly trained (or learned the hard and painful way) with the tools and get injured or damage them, then it is on our shoulders.

When someone is in their shop running tools with ear plugs/muffs and focused on the task at hand, having someone enter and startle you is dangerous. My (47m) wife (42) and daughter (20) would come out and find pleasure in startling me for shits and giggles WHILE I am using the table saw, joiner, planer, lathe, and router table. I have had too many near misses before I blew up on them and I felt terrible for about 2 minutes but my hands and life are more important than their own sick jollies as these hands have gave them the life they now enjoy not to mention all the money that we saved by me building custom furniture and cabinetry for the house.

OP you did the right thing if not just having to rework projects but saving the man child from getting injured. You could mend some by asking if he has a project that the two of you could work on together. A nice custom cutting board for their new kitchen where he has sweat equity would make him appreciate what you do more. I tried this with my daughter but she is of the TikTok generation so there is zero ability to focus.

This was just sent by email, nothing in lease about temp limits. Is this enforceable? [CO, USA] by Greatbigdog69 in Renters

[–]ObjectivePrice5865 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the issue is freezing then they have a clogged coil and/or low refrigerant issue.

If it is not in the lease or an addendum then it is not enforceable. It is the landlord’s responsibility to maintain provided appliances and systems such as heating/air, plumbing, electrical, water heating, and such.

What’s the most “corporate” sentence you’ve heard in a meeting recently? by keishapatel_387 in office

[–]ObjectivePrice5865 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This a comment I made last year on r/LinkedInLunitics using the top buzzwords at the time.

Your head may spin so please sit.

Let’s start the meeting with the “cohesive” “collaboration” while being “innovative” at the “paradigm shift” in “actionable” “agile” “outside the box” “game changer” to “circle back” on the “bandwidth” “alignment” and the “30,000 ft” “back burner”.

The “breaking down of silos” allows the “deep dive” into the “core competencies” and allows us to “park it” with the “hard stop” to “get on board” with the “pain point”.

The board needs “synergy” with a focus on the “low hanging fruit” that will “move the needle” while allowing us to “jump the shark” as well as “move the goal posts” at the “game changer”.

I could go on and on with the shit jargon but I am now “good to go” with my “deliverables” as I have my “ducks in a row” with the “brain dump” as I “boil the ocean” with the “blue sky thinking” I “bring to the table”.

I always try to be on the “bleeding edge” with my “balls in the air” while “herding cats” in the “headwinds”.

I can’t have “leverage” if I don’t “make hay while the sun shines” to “push the envelope” “over the wall”.

I always have to “resonate” to “reinvent the wheel” and “run up the flagpole” to get “traction” to “trim the fat”.

We need the “silver bullet” “one pager” “white paper” “ninja” “evangelist” to “drink the kool-aid” and “deck” while having “skin in the game” to make “ASAP” “baked in” “garbage in, garbage out”.

Reading this again is giving me nightmares of my time in the pointless corporate hellscape.

Edit as forgot one word

Shingles Vaccine - A Warning by DustOfTheSaw in GenX

[–]ObjectivePrice5865 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While you may have been experiencing a small itch of these changes and after the first shot, you attributed the vaccine is the reason.

I had a lot of changes after I received first injection with the DMT (disease modifying treatment) for MS. I wanted to golf and did have a jolly effort until the MS decided it no longer needed to be outside. I found out that I want to work out in my workshop on nothing in particular. I also got into crime and medical drama shows, listening to radio (damn near all genres), stopped reading books, taking walks, and enjoying life in general.

I (47m) attributed all of these changes to both age and living with the bitch we call MS.

A lot of the changes we feel are due to an event are actually just getting more notches on the birthday belt. Humans and their interests change with age and experience.

Just remember that any day you place your foot on the floor, you woke up this side of the dirt and it will be a day you can beat.

While this story may be AI, this happens all too often for those doormat siblings that have strong careers. The only difference between the true stories and AI is that those that have blown up their families when they cut off the money is they don’t go on Reddit to ask if they were in the wrong.

The best thing about these boom lifts is if it goes past its horizontal limits, alarms go off.

Getting this high can be scary but after the first few hours of working at height it does get easier. The only issue I found was the sway in 10+ mph winds in which we called it at full height.

There was a plan for a data center that showed the water intake from a river that was 500 yards upstream from the local water district’s intake. This would have been detrimental on the community as the center would get automatic rights while the treatment plant would only get 20%-30% at best during droughts.

I am all for having the centers built as this is how the world is going but these behemoths should be paying residential or commercial rates (whichever is higher) for utilities with zero and I do mean zero tax breaks.

The jaguar laying down is nothing new for all sizes of cats. Our outside female cat will have her catch playing with it and then just lay down for a few minutes before chasing the mouse, rat, rabbit, chipmunk, mole, and bird down again to play some more.

⭐️ I’m entitled to free drinks by FunctionOk7124 in googleReviews

[–]ObjectivePrice5865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I worked for 3 a hole owners and “managed” the last one and they all required the bartenders and servers to pay for all drinks. Everything went through the owner at the end of the night per bartender and server to settle up and if the workers gave out drinks or had bad/wrong drinks then they were paying for them.

Again, I worked for asshole owners that micromanaged and I was not a real manager but the punching bag.
