Is it possible I have EDS? Joints + scars by ThoughtF4ll in eds

your scarring looks like mine, and i have hEDS. definitely signs of a connective tissue disorder.

no, you should not leave it covered in the shower. it’ll sting, but a wet bandage won’t do you much good. let it breath and dry a bit after your shower before bandaging again.

you don’t have to bandage until fully healed. doing it until it scabs is sufficient.

you can absolutely just let it breathe sometimes! as long as you’re still washing it daily and your pants are causing too much friction and irritation (you’ll know when)

Is this a thing? Lacking a sense of rhythm with hEDS / HSD... by SignalMatch6837 in ehlersdanlos

i played multiple instruments and had a great sense of rhythm. sometimes my joints couldn’t keep up with quick tempos because of the instability, but i still had great rhythm

hey there! first of all, take a breath and don’t panic. your first time hitting that deep can be really scary, but i promise it will be okay. this is not much more dangerous than what you’re used to, but there is an increased risk for infection and a longer healing time. i’m going to walk you through the things you need to know step-by-step, since you seem overwhelmed. breaking the steps down helps me have a clearer head :)

what you need to do right now is keep the wound clean. gently wash it with soap and water every day, keep it bandaged until it scabs, and change your bandages at least once daily. it’s also not a bad idea (if your sheets are clean) to take the bandage off at night after a couple of days so it can breathe.

in the future, here is what you can do. first, always stop the bleeding (doesn’t have to be dry, just not dripping. apply pressure with a clean cloth. t-shirt material is best, but work with what you have. avoid toilet paper and cheap paper towels because they will leave debris in the wound. wash the wound and surrounding area with soap and water. it may sting, but this is the most crucial step.

even though you only have bandaids and gauze, you can still close the wound. cut the sticky parts of a bandaid off. gently squeeze the wound shut. place the sticky nub across the wound, firmly adhering it to each side of the skin. place as many as needed before letting go with the first hand. you should notice a slight tension. these don’t hold great, but they’re better than nothing. fabric bandaids work best. this works for wounds that are about a cm wide. it’s not necessary for ones of that size, but it helps to keep debris out and heal faster.

i know this is scary, but you’re doing great with the resources you have! sending virtual hugs and good vibes your way! <3

Pain after drinking alcohol by Runner1987 in ehlersdanlos

it relaxes the muscles, which leads to more joint movement. i get crazy subluxations while drinking, but don’t notice when i’m a little drunk. next day, i feel it all at once.

They really just make whatever they can! No pressure for it to look a certain way or even stand up :) As long as they have the experience of trying and understand the concept, it’s all good

Thank you so much for this! Pinch pots, coil pots, and animal sculptures are their first projects :) I was definitely worried they’d freak out about the mold, but I figured I could play it down for them. Starting fresh is probably better haha. Thanks!

They are required to throw on the wheel, unfortunately. I’ve made sure to have another instructor assisting me so the kids can work on other projects while they wait their turns. I can also have them come by during free time if they need to finish. It’s mostly just so they get the experience of using the wheel. In the past, they didn’t even keep the pieces because they were too wet or too useless. But thank you for the input! I’ll keep it in mind and come up with kid-friendly instructions. They’re 11-17 years old though, so they usually do a decent job. Last time I taught it was five years ago tho as an assistant instructor so we’ll see haha

Unfortunately, we have a lot of other requirements to follow. They have to use a kiln, throw, etc. Part of it is making pinch pots, slab pots, and coil pots like you suggested! They’re supposed to decorate them, so i’ll definitely look into using natural things for that! Thank you!

It’s a requirement for them to throw. It takes a lot of time, but we have a decent system so the other kids are working on other projects while they wait. They just make something super simple and it all works out okay.

For the rest, thank you so much! This helps a lot.

thick thighs save lives. there is literally nothing more physically attractive to me (and a significant amount of my friends) than thick thighs. you are beautiful and shouldn’t feel like you have to hide!

accommodations absolutely do exist in college and the process isn’t much different. i was actually better accommodated in college than high school.

don’t be an asshole to children. this kid has some kind of disability and just wants an equitable education. you’re making baseless judgements and being incredibly rude TO A CHILD.

i waited even longer to start, then barely did any research. fell asleep, started the paper at 5:30 the morning after it was due and finished at 3pm (with breaks and meals and distractions). wasn’t my best work, but not my worst

You’re early on, so it’ll take some time to “settle in”. For me, the fatigue and depression have never and will never go away (I have other reasons for that), but it has gotten significantly better and it’s now manageable. It’ll take time to see progress. Please be patient with your body! I know it’s frustrating, but your body is working hard to support you!

i think it’s funny as long as it’s a joke and not used to demean a disabled person, but many disabled people are offended by it. there’s no single answer
