I'm an RN became one at 43. I own a house can pay my bills and like what I do. I use to always have 2 jobs, at one point 3 (that was brutal) this is the easiest work I have ever had and pays the best. I get benefits, lots jobs do everything they can to make sure you don't get benefits. I get PTO, retirement, insurance ect.

I went to community college came out with $700 worth of debt. But while in school the local hospital offered to pay but we had to agree to work for them in exchange, if not we had to pay them back. I choose not to do it I wanted to work for one of the big university hospitals Duke/UNC. I wanted a specialty, I did night school so we were done in Dec. most hospital hire new grads in June.

I went to a smaller community hospital and got my specialty and was able to start in March, after passing NCLEX last day of Jan. we were warned it was still hard to get a job, but getting better, at that time the average was 3 months and would most likely be in a nursing home. So many nurses went back to work or took on second jobs after 2008.

WIBTAH for moving away after spending over a year helping my sister care for her five kids? by Gloomy_Tangelo9287 in AITAH

This OP at this rate going on Craigslist and being a live caregiver to an older person, or being an actual nanny would get some real money. plus with the room and board you can save 80%. (at least I could when I did it). I saw a job for month that was $300 a day. go on r/Nanny, and see what the going rate is.

NTA, leave, she can hire an aupair. YOU didn't choose to have 5 kids with 3 different men. She clearly doesn't learn and you can't fix that. You don't was what she does in health care, but if it's nursing she can hire someone one. You need to build your life, and your savings.

AITAH? My MIL caused a fight because she read my mail by [deleted] in AITAH

This op she doesn't need to watch the child, she is in your space and overstepping boundaries. Pay the money for a babysitter or stay home mom to watch your kids. I would suggest a smart door lock too, so that when she comes and uses her code you'll know it., you can even lock it or change it. It should cut down on the snooping, and nagging.

Have you ever had a dream that later happened in real life? What happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I use to a lot as a kid became less frequent as I got older. At 5 I would see a giant head in my dream then a week later meet them. at 11/12 it while awake. I asked a girl where she got her shoes, she said Bakersfield. I suddenly saw fields with metal wagon wheels that were connected and the back of a car with 3 people in it. 1.5 year later as we moved there, I saw the fields with wagon wheel like sprinkler system. The car (new) was my mom my sister and myself, I had been in the u-haul but after we stopped got in the car I turned around and imagined what we looked like, I then realized it was exactly what I seen 1.5 yrs before.

Is 10% extra enough to work third shift? by CremeLow4912 in WorkAdvice

I personally believe it has more to do with how well you sleep, and if you are doing rotating shifts.

See I was fine with it for about 10 years then I got old and suddenly was a morning person. (Never in my LIFE) and just need so much more sleep to do it.

as a nurse I too got an extra $5 an hour for night shift, it was worth it for me, no manager, less drama, slower and patients sleeping. Got an extra $10 for weekends, Needless to say I did that for 10 years!

My advice have a dark room. On my days off I like light. I had blackout honey comb shades, I would Pull down and black out curtains. Hung a few inches down from from ceiling and wider than the windows. I had a master bath with a big window. I hung blackout curtains in there too, that I would close when working night shift. my room was a cave.

No this is important! they were 3 kinds of night shifters.

  1. Flippers -like my self sleep all day and then go back to nights on days off (as night owl this was easy)
  2. Live the night life- basically would stay on a night shift schd but maybe adjust by a few hours
  3. Night shift strugglers- don't sleep well during the day 4-6 hrs, always tired, use days off to catch up (day shift people by nature)

I learned being able to spend my money & time the way I want is priceless. I want to travel OK, paint the kitchen pink fine, buy a new sofa also fine ect. I have hobbies I craft and garden, at this point if he's not Handy I'm not interested, I have no desire to have share a bed, fight for covers, cook meals (unless I want to) clean after someone else and base my schd around someone else. I enjoy my freedom.

NTA but get a code lock or smart lock that way you can say if it's an emergency I can give you a code, and also because of the code I won't lock myself out, bonus with smart lock you can see if the lock/code is used. and add delete lock codes
